Re: Renault Kwid Sub-4 Lakh Car Launching This Festive Season

WOW! The Kwid looks Wow. The Car appears to be VFM. But, again we need to wait until the vehicle is driven and get positive feedback. If all the check boxes are ticket, it will be tough nut for other Manufactures and Renault's comeback in hatch segment.

Though much has been already shared about the Kwid in last couple of pages, I’m adding a few important pointers and pictures of the event:

  • Kwid will launch this festive season (Sept – Nov) at a starting price of Rs.3 Lakh.
  • Equipped with an 800 cc engine under the hood, it’ll compete with Alto, Eon and likes.
  • Renault is obviously aiming volumes. This segment alone comprises 25% market share.
  • Renault, at the moment, has no plans to introduce this car in European market.
  • Kwid is the first product which is based on all-new Renault-Nissan CMF-A Platform.
  • This platform will generate more cars in future. Renault has invested total 30 billion.
  • 98% suppliers of the Renault Kwid are local and certain parts are sourced from Nissan.
  • Renault doesn't plan to re-badge this car under different brands (read Dacia or Nissan).
  • The company claims that it has ensured Kwid meets all regulatory safety requirements in India.

The other switches left of what you mentioned, are for the door windows ? Power windows only in the front.May be this particular trim ?Welcome measure to see Airbags equipped, but little suspicious when they say "The company claims that it has ensured Kwid meets all regulatory safety requirements in India." So there will be rating issues later like Datsun? I pray before they deliver the vehicle it goes for crash test and gets some stars.

It looks like miniature Duster! But these smaller tyres are not complimenting the look of the car.. Wider Tyre will look good on this, hope they(Renault) will change it.

Re: Renault Kwid Sub-4 Lakh Car Launching This Festive Season

I hope kwid launches with an AMT box from launch, because there are lot of people waiting for an automatic stylish value for money car. I'm not sure kwid is going to set the charts on fire or anything with just a few dealers to compete against Maruti or Hyundai. Bring on your best from the launch like automatic box and everything you got, because once launched and marked as a flop, will always be a flop in India. We got lot of examples which we all know. So Renault if possible do a crash test and show the worthiness too to make us aware it's not a rebuild Datsun and get the confidence of customers.

Kwid, the newest kid on the block, looks nice and cool, lets see what all Renault retains in the production ready car.
@Mr. Boss, that could be a start/stop button OR as some suggested wing mirror adjusters.
the coming year is going to be exciting for the Indian car bazaar.

what will happen to the MM S101 price? 5-8l? after Kwid launch, MM should be worried

Re: Renault Kwid Sub-4 Lakh Car Launching This Festive Season

Renault Kwid genuinely ‘Made in India’

Renault’s new ‘Kwid’ on the block will begin life in India with 97 percent of its parts sourced locally. Apart from Maruti Suzuki, no other multinational auto maker has managed to achieve such a high level of local content. Renault says this record level of localisation was essential to meet the Kwid’s target price of Rs. 3-4 lakh when it goes on sale around Diwali this year.

“In my opinion, outside India, you cannot make a car like this, no matter where you go. Even in Brazil, Russia, or China, you cannot build a car to this cost target. With a car like this, you need Indian creativity and frugal engineering with no compromise on cost, which is so specific to the Indian approach”, said Carlos Ghosn, Renault’s CEO and a long-time fan of Indian ingenuity.

To optimise the car even more, Renault used a mix of French, Japanese and Indian engineers, bringing skills from all over the world. Still, this car was born in Chennai and so was the CMF-A platform, which will spawn various derivatives of the Kwid as well as underpin a wide range of Datsun products.

Project-head Gerard Detourbet was based in India and so was most of his team. “The only way to develop a truly Indian car is to lead the development out of India”, said Detourbet who designed and developed the Kwid from a clean sheet of paper. The only components imported are some critical engine components like the connecting rods, knock sensors and fuel injectors.

Renault has invested close to Rs 3,000 crore in the design, development and manufacturing of the Kwid.

Renault Kwid in production guise starts testing.

2015-Renault-Kwid-Test-Mule-Undisguised.jpg

Kwid has been projected as a compact hatchback crossover, with its rugged exterior profile.
Localisation on the Renault Kwid is an impressive 98% which would help in pricing this mini compact car.

Powered by a 800cc, petrol motor, the Kwid will feature the best-in-class fuel efficiency. Powering the Kwid would be a petrol motor which features 4-valves per cylinder and gets twin-cams. Future engine options could be a 1.0L units codenamed as the BR10. The Kwid will also get an AMT gearbox.
Other best-in-class features would be the available boot space & knee room for passengers.

What looks like a baby-SUV or say a baby-Duster, the Kwid measures 3.68 mm in length. The Kwid has a very healthy ground clearance of 180mm, which is SUV-class.

The Kwid is the first product to be built on the new CMF-A platform.

Looks fantastic. Renault has to set right their customer service departments and dealer networks, to really compete with Maruti and Hyundai
