In late June, French car manufacturer Renault officially teased its new C-segment SUV crossover. It has now been named Renault Arkana and will be showcased at the 2018 Moscow International Motor Show.
Ranault Arkana draws from the the Latin word ‘Arcanum’ (secret), which refers to marking events and phenomena of special significance. For Renault, Arkana underlines the future crossover SUV with a sense of mystery, attractiveness and pioneer spirit.
Following it’s showcase as a showcar in Russia, Renault Arkana will be launched in 2019, and the new Renault global SUV will then be introduced in other countries/ emerging markets. Russia will be the first sale market for Renault’s newest SUV. Renault Russia will set up production at its Moscow plant to commence Arkana crossover sales. It’s only logical then that the car debuts in Russia.
Being a showcar would mean we’ll see a lot of what Arkana is meant to be but not what it will become just as yet but the near production prototype will offer much insight.
After the teaser image that showed the vehicle front in concept form, today’s name reveal comes with an image of the rear. It shows the company diamond logo and vehicle name writ across the tailgate centre in large font with ample gap between the letters.
Distinctive LED strip full-width taillights and integrated spoiler lip familiar to Megane and Talisman feature. The coupesque-SUV will make its first appearance on 29th August at Moscow International Motor Show.
Similar to Kaptur, Renault Arkana is an all-new product for Russia and other emerging markets. It’s not clear yet if and when Renault Arkana crossover will launch in India. Renault has had success in selling Duster and Kwid in India but the Captur didn’t quite capture market attention. (Captur in India, is the same Captur in Russia).
If launched in India, this new SUV will be a perfect replacement to the now ageing Renault Duster. Here it could rival the Hyundai Creta, and the soon to be launched Tata Harrier H5X, Maruti Suzuki Vitara.
