Recommendations for Reliable External Hard Disk

I’m in market to purchase an external hard disk to store backups and important data. So reliability is the top most priority. Please recommend hard disks of suitable brand with capacity of anything around 320 GB.

The most popular brands for HDD are Seagate, Buffalo, Toshiba, HP and Imation.

From my experience, i feel Seagate is one of the most reliable brand when it comes to HDD. The 320GB Seagate HDD costs around 2.3K while a 500GB HDD would cost you about 2.8K. Even the Transcend HDD retails at similar tag.

Yeah, WD is definitely worth considering. It costs around 2.5K for 320GB and about 3K for 500GB disk.

I am using Seagate HDD 320GB for sometime now , no issues with it so far , total VFM!

You will have to first decide whether you want a portable one(which gets its power from USB) or the one which has its own socket for power.
you can get a portable Seagate HDD 320GB for about 2800, and IMO it will be best option for you.

I'm using WD My Passport 320GB & Seagate 160GB (2.5" Laptop HDD with ENTER Casing) I could hardly find any difference in terms of reliability. Used Transcend for a while.
No use of my price figures as I purchased WD about 1 year back & Seagate 2 years back.
I would suggest either WD or Seagate (No idea about others as I haven't used them)

Aren’t these features available in Seagate? Because from the price viewpoint, Seagate 500GB seems to be quite value for money.

you can also look at external hdds coming in different different designs..but yea only after selecting one!! all mentioned brands are good..

Sea-Gate doesn't offer the military grade protection offered by Transcend, on the other hand Seagate gives 5 yrs warranty while transcend gives 3 years.

It works with USB of TV's Just plug & play for HD Tv's.
