Bro is there any way to get abs module fixed?
If not shot completely, can be fixed by guys repairing ECUs, but some components are hard to source. Contact Vineeth of Rider's Garage. He offered to fix mine before it blew up completely. He repaired my friend's CBR250's ABS unit as well. Think he might be of help.

Hii bro did you manage to repair your abs module? I'm also from tvm and is there any option to get it fixed. Do not have the option to replace it cause it's almost 23k rs for a new unit.If there is any way please do tell I would like to get it fixed mainly cause my speedo is showing false readings. Already had checked the speed sensors and abs rings and they seem to be working fine.
Replaced mine with a used one. Used ones available with My Spare Market. He offered for less than one third the price and replaces faulty ones. Older models are hard to get in the used market as they tend to fail prematurely.

Thank you soo much bro. Been searching for a solution for some time. Hoping it can be fixed. When your abs failed did your bike also stop showing correct speedo reading?

I'm fine with riding without abs even though it's less safe. Main issues is than when abs failed my speedo reading also became affected only showing readings under 10kmph even though bike's traveling much faster.

Behaved like that and stopped completely one day. Running without the meter was always irritating and lost track of maintenance. Most of the initial 390s had this problem.

May 2022 - Chain Slider Replacement

I was lubing the chain and adjusting slack as the chain was hitting the swingarm, but spotted 80% of the chain slider was missing, causing the issue.

Got it from KTM spares, was available.

Chain Slider - JG122036₹ - 243.00

Package now comes with Husqvarna and Gas Gas logos. Wonder why Bajaj was missing.

Have to remove the rear set to remove the oddly placed bolt, which holds both the slider and chain cover.

2022-05-08 16-36-43.jpg

The bolt will hit the rear set and can't be removed.

2022-05-08 16-37-27.jpg

One bolt on top.

2022-05-08 16-39-21.jpg

And one in the bottom, where the slider was non-existent.

2022-05-08 16-46-38.jpg

New slider vs remnants of old.

2022-05-08 16-40-37.jpg

Cleaned up the swingarm.

2022-05-08 16-46-11.jpg

Removed spacers from the old slider.

2022-05-08 16-56-47.jpg

Installed'em on the new slider.

2022-05-08 16-57-33.jpg

Installing.

2022-05-08 16-58-12.jpg

Done. Chain cover was hitting the exhaust and melted on.

2022-05-08 16-58-20.jpg

Re-installed the rear set and chain cover. Scraped off the melt from the exhaust.

2022-05-08 17-17-15.jpg

Tightened up everything.

Ooh, you were lucky and got the right part. I wasn't so lucky though and got a newer part

The bolt will hit the rear set and can't be removed.
For this reason I never put it back [gun]I just removed the sprocket cover, front sprocket and swapped out the slider

I don't dare to miss out any bolts on the vibrators [lol]

The design seems entirely different, how'd you secure it? Does it stay in place without any trouble?

The swingarm already had holes for the newer slider. BUT they were filled with 9 years of sand mud and chain lube. Cleaning them out, tapping them was a MAJOR PITA. I'll never do it again.

Furthermore, the bottom bolt holding the slider fell off. I had to take off the front sprocket, move the chain and fix back a new bolt for it. Because I didnt have the right bush for this slider, I couldnt tighten it all the way in, thus it fell off. Had to do some jugaad with washers to get the right height then slathered a ton of threadlock so it wont fall off again
Red = stock hole, blue = new hole

October/ November/December 2022 - Updates

Renewed insurance with New India Assurance
IDV - ₹ 93,000.00
NCB - 50%
Own Damage Premium - ₹ 451.00
Third-Party Damage Premium - ₹ 2804.00
Total Premium - ₹ 3,841.00

Prepping up for an anticipated ride. Confused with the confusion, which one should I pick, the 390 or the ZMA (or even more confused, the GT). ZMA belongs to @varunkumar2910, safe with me as he is abroad. My current daily runner. It's almost in the verge of 2L km and did an up and down Leh ride from south and countless aimless road trips. Picked the riskier 390.

Front retained the level. Evacuated the content in the reservoir and topped up. Just a year since last bleed.

Fixed up the charging port loose connection.

2022-12-09 00-01-57.jpg

Washed and lubed.

December 2022 - A Ride-Sleep-Ride Back Trip to Kodaikanal

Gave up riding about 7 years back due to back pain and got married in between and lived peacefully thereafter. A 2-day gathering of our biker clad was happening in Kodai and my old partners were calling me to join (like every year), but this year, couldn't say no. No leave and budget constraints, shrunk the plan to gate crash them and return with them the next morning. Dusted up my gears and bought a new lid. Luckily everything fit though the glove took some effort to size up. Supposed to start by 4:30-5, but delayed by a friend as usual. Started off by 6:30 AM.

2022-12-10 06-20-28.jpg

We were 4 in 3 bikes.

2022-12-10 09-04-36.jpg

Greenery always made me stop and click.

2022-12-10 09-06-28.jpg

Also the love for windmills. The ZMA couple carried the household and they were touring further to Hampi and returning through the length of Kerala. With pillion and load, they were doing 100-120 kmph with ease. I had a hard time catching up with them. I preferred to stay at 90-100 kmph.

Reddiarpatti Hills, Tirunelveli, the point where we feel like leaving the home territory (though home is 150 km away and passed state border 107 km ago).

Astonishing mileage, 37 kmpl.

Lunch break at Adyar Anand Bhavan, Andipatti inside BPCL COCO outlet. Reached there after lunchtime and there was hardly anything left in the menu. Wanted curd rice, ended with coconut rice.

2022-12-10 14-35-08.jpg

Last break in the valley with some tender coconut.

Destination. 412 km 8 hours. The rest of the team reached a day back and explored Kodai.

Night view of Kodai.

2022-12-10 19-32-50.jpg

Dinner from AR Rahman Restaurant. Swiggy would've delivered to the hotel, but opted to ride out in the cold and did a quick tour around the lake.

2022-12-10 20-22-03.jpg

Hardly slept 2 hours, stayed awake all night thinking of the ride back. Supposed to start back by 5:30 AM, but I was the only one up at 6 AM. Was wandering in the morning with jacket, jumper, and raincoat over top and shivering.

Just Ashwin things.

2022-12-11 08-55-33.jpg

Had a fall during the night food run. A 45-degree slop with an acute-angle turn and filled with potholes. I let off the throttle, but the bike maintained rpm to prevent a shut-down and things went out of hand. I was under the bike before my pillion could get up and lift the bike. No harm. Pillion lost some paint from ankle and knee. Leg guard got the hit. First task was to remove it and the horn before the trip. Had to wait for others to wake up for the tools.

The clan had all sorts of bikes, Gixxer 150 to 2022 Busa.

2022-12-11 09-08-21.jpg

Me tip-toeing.

2022-12-11 09-40-50.jpg

Ride back started by 9:45AM after breakfast, 4-1/4 hours late.

2022-12-11 09-51-50.jpg

Faster bikes started disappearing on my mirror and company till the valley was @DEViANCE riding at 60 kmph. He took a detour and I took a fuel stop. Already late and frustrated, hit the highway alone thinking they all had passed me. Steady 100 kmph and after almost 150 km on highway, the 650 catches up, who was more frustrated as the whole gang was behind taking pits-tops every time they saw a tender coconut or juice stall. He got furious after they stopped for a brunch and took off from there. Moral, ride is always fun with a smaller gang. Mileage was climbing up on constant cruising. Reached 39 kmpl later.

2022-12-11 13-43-53.jpg

Stopped at Kovilpatti CCD, only reliable pitstop when we tripped that way 10-15 years back. With lots of restaurants budding up in between, this place lost its significance and became dearer.

With the luggage, I could only get on standing on the foot peg and the adventure pegs gripped well.

2022-12-11 14-24-20.jpg

The CCD brand ambassador [lol], may be the last time there.

2022-12-11 14-29-48.jpg

Butterflies and flies were suiciding on our visors and had to stop and clean in between.

2022-12-11 15-25-13.JPG
2022-12-11 15-25-42.JPG

By 5 PM, we were off wider highways, to narrow 2-lane highway. While having tea, got update the rest of the team reached the CCD, which was 140 km back.

2022-12-11 15-26-13.JPG

Weekend traffic was building up and got worse once we entered Kerala. Traffic was almost standstill at many places. Took 4 hours to cover 350 km on highway with breaks and another 2.5 hours to cover 60 km as it got narrower, especially after re-entering Kerala. In addition to that mess, the clutch cable holder snapped, but luckily 15 km away from home just before the beginning of 4/6-lane stretch. Tried for help, but nothing availed. Searched for metal wires nearby, couldn't find any. Grabbed the cable ties in the bag, managed to tie the holder together. Started the bike and took byroads to avoid the heavy traffic till the wider stretch and successfully made it to home. At the time of snapping, experienced same accelerating to prevent knocking, but shut off the engine before getting out of control.

2022-12-11 19-29-24.jpg

Another 412 km in 9 hours with minimal breaks and a break-down.

2022-12-11 20-23-11.jpg

My first long run on the Duke, always preferred the FZ. Turned out to be the better choice. Better posture without stress on any part of the body, no back pain, an effortless cruiser, but susceptible to crosswinds if unprepared and after all gave better mileage than FZ (highway speeds).

December 2022 - Post-ride Repairs

Leg guard damage, always a nightmare. Bolt gets cut off and the shaft will be stuck. Same happened the last time too. Luckily came off without any drama, just using pliers.

2022-12-12 15-21-45.jpg

One and a half bolt. High tensile steel bolt sold as bar ends bolts at neighbourhood spare store for 10 bucks. KTM sells the same for ₹40.

2022-12-12 15-26-48.jpg

Got the crash guard, first thing in the morning.
Leg Guard RH - JG231210 - ₹ 149.00

New vs Old

Installed.

Last night's job. How wire ties can save you.

2022-12-12 14-24-00.jpg

How it got split.

2022-12-12 15-50-07.jpg

Removed the shaft. KTM had no stock.

2022-12-12 15-51-54.jpeg

Called up the guy who used to work at KTM spares, who is at Bajaj spares now. He said the shaft is the same across all KTM-based Bajaj engines, but the head part varies depending on the routing of cable. Asked to check the compatibility before buying. Checked with Prime Motors.

2022-12-12 16-10-38.jpg

Being the most impulsive guy, bought without a second thought, wasting ₹229.

2022-12-12 16-17-32.jpg
2022-12-12 16-17-37.jpg

It was Dominar part, JF541208

2022-12-12 16-34-37.jpeg

It had extra height and a longer neck with a linkage. Had to adjust the cable to the extreme to get it engaged.

2022-12-12 16-35-06.jpeg

But it kept hitting the frame. So, done with that.

2022-12-12 16-35-25.jpeg

Visited KTM again with a couple of part numbers and none of them were in stock. Removed the Dominar unit and installed the old one with cable ties.

2022-12-12 17-30-31.jpg

Headlight was absolutely useless during the trip, especially the low beam. Throw was very short. Needs upgrade or aux lights for next trip.

Low and High beams.

Swapped with Autobahn 55W LED from Barricade and there was tremendous improvement. Needs one for P-Pig too.

Excellent thread you have there. I have a duke 390 (2013), used it bought and I have a major doubt regarding the engine oil level. The manual says 1.5ml of oil to be poured but the showroom service center pours 1700ml.

Now with the engine cold, I can barely see any engine oil, but if I warm up the engine to 4 bars and check it at a time gap of 1 min, 5 min and 10min it is below the upper mark. After 30 mins of letting it sit, the oil sight glass is full.
How do we check the correct oil level in a 390?

Manual mentions 1.6 L. When I fill to max level, it takes 1.7 L.

Usually, it won't take that long to settle down. Manual says 1 minute. I wait a bit longer, many be 4-5 minutes. Had vague levels when there was block in the pump.
