Porsche has launched the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS in India with prices starting at Rs 2.54 crore (ex-showroom India). The track-focused GT4 RS is the most powerful derivative of the 718 Cayman to go on sale in India aside from also being the most expensive model in the range. This is also the first generation of the Cayman to receive Porsche's RS badging. Compared to the standard Cayman GT4, the RS is lighter and gets a number of more performance-oriented tweaks.
Compared to the current 911 GT3, the flat-six engine on the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS is slightly detuned but it still produces 496bhp at 8,400rpm and 450Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. Compared to the GT4 version of the car, the new Cayman GT4 RS has an extra 79bhp and 20Nm of peak torque.
The Cayman GT4 RS is offered exclusively with Porsche's 7-speed dual-clutch (PDK) automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS sprints from 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 315km/h. The new GT4 RS is half a second faster to 100km/h than the GT4 and the top speed has also risen by 13km/h compared to its less hardcore sibling. This has allowed the 718 Cayman GT4 RS to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in a time of 7:04.511 minutes - 23.6 seconds faster than the 718 Cayman GT4.
Porsche has also fiddled around with the aero profile of the new GT4 RS with its new wider lightweight front wing panels along with the new front lip spoiler and adjustable front diffuser and the large wing at the back with the swan neck mounts borrowed from the 911 GT3 combining to produce as much as 25 per cent more downforce compared to the GT4 when in performance mode.
