Ola S1 customers to be upgraded to S1 Pro for free, but there’s a catch

OLA-S1-Pro_2.jpg

Ola Electric has decided to upgrade the base version of the Ola S1 electric scooter with the hardware of the S1 Pro, which includes a bigger 3.97 kWh battery pack in place of 2.98 kWh as promised earlier. This upgrade is being offered free of cost, as some insiders claim that it is a welcoming move for those people who are waiting for the base S1 for a long time.

However, there’s a catch to the whole story. While Ola is giving a bigger battery at the same cost of Rs 99,999, it will continue to offer the same performance and range obtained from the smaller 2.98 kWh. If you want to utilize the full potential of the bigger 3.97 kWh battery pack and have access to other premium features included in the hardware like higher top speed, higher charging rate, ‘Hyper’ riding mode, cruise control, hill hold assist, and more, you will have to pay a hefty premium of Rs 30,000.

Well ola seem to have bitten more than they could chew. they could have started small, with consistent month on month deliveries even could have concentrated on pockets of cities, but going gung ho and not delivering and then delivering defective bikes, bikes with cracked body shell will only take experience downwards. Yeah you could replace the bike with a new one but then sell the repaired bike to some other person. I would have preferred slow and steady approach. Proper QA in factory, proper bike transportation, and proper delivery. I would personally not touch Ola bikes for few more years. If i have to take a plunge may look for Ather or Chetak

This is exactly what I feel too. It's looking messy overall. I would also consider other options first like Ather, Chetak or iQube before Ola.

They have to straighten out delivery delays & niggles (some serious ones) first. I agree initial few months will be difficult for any new launch but customers are not being made aware of what's causing them (or a tleast tentative timeliness). A lot of buyers who have paid full cost of the scooter on 21-Jan still haven't received their scooters (including me). As of now, customer care is also a joke with no clear answers to any question we ask them.

Electric Vehicle Charging in 5 Minutes: Ola Electric Invests in Israeli Firm For Technology

Bengaluru-based Ola Electric on Monday confirmed that it has invested in StoreDot, an Israeli battery technology firm that develops extreme fast charging (XFC) technology for e-mobility.

This is the first of numerous global strategic investments that the company expects to undertake. Ola Electric intends to increase its core R&D in advanced cell chemistry and production, as well as other battery technologies and novel energy solutions.

According to the Indian electric vehicle maker, Ola Electric will have access to StoreDot’s cutting-edge XFC battery technology, which can charge a battery from zero to 100% in just five minutes.

The Indian firm, which was valued at $5 billion in January, would have exclusive rights in the country to produce batteries with StoreDot’s quick charging technology.

Ola S1 Pro electric scooter abruptly goes in reverse mode at 90 kmph

The Ola electric scooters are now surrounded by a bunch of complaints coming their way. After the customer complaint and the incident of the electric scooter catching fire, now a glitch has been reported with the acceleration of the scooter, making it move in a reverse mode without stopping.
The incident was reported after a video of the scooter operating in a bizarre way was uploaded on social media. However, the exact source of the video is not known. In the video, the Ola S1 Pro can be seen placed on the floor sideways while its wheel is continuously spinning in reverse mode.

Along with the reverse rotation of the wheel, the turn signal of the scooter can also be seen continuously blinking. It is to be noted that this is not the first time the issue of wheel spinning in the reverse mode has been reported.

Earlier, a similar problem was reported with an Ola S1 Pro when it switched to reverse mode at a speed of 102 kmph. The timing of this incident was even more unfortunate, as it happened when the rider further accelerated the scooter for more speed.

It is imperative to know that the Ola S1 Pro offers a reverse mode feature, which is useful when one needs to reverse the scooter. In the aforementioned incidents, the scooter put itself in reverse mode without being engaged because of what seemed to be a software glitch.

The Ola scooter comes with software controlling various functions of the scooter. This software gets updated at regular intervals to resolve any issues with it. The glitch automatically engaging the reverse mode seems to be arising from this software.

The Ola S1 Pro is currently priced at Rs 1.29 lakh and comes with a 3.97 kWh battery with a maximum range of 181 km and charges in 6 hours and 30 minutes using a portable 750W charger that comes with the scooter.
