I don't think they would launch another marina. It makes more sense to be a Ertiga like MPV.

The shape makes it difficult for me to think it is something other than Indigo Marina which seems to be relaunched by Tata now.
Does it have anything related to Tata's sales dipping down in form of taxi's since the introduction of Logan/Verito ??

If not Marina, the only thing I could imagine it to be is an indica to give it a more Jazz/i20 type streched look rather than making it look like a toy car !! The cover at the back can clearly be seen to be streched using some rods(or somethin like tht) and is not even. Which rules out it being an MPV similar to Ertiga !!

Whatever be the actual outcome of this Indica /Indigo long wheel base car, it would give another option or two for the Indian Consumer. One may or may not like the shape , but even if it sells mediocre numbers, it adds volume for TATA within same platform.

I like the innovation happening in Indian Automotive Industry. Most are VFM products, keeping economy of shared platforms in mind. Past five years saw many new vehicles designed from scratch. This exercise will surely make Indian and MNC Auto manufacturers operating in India highly competitive and flexible in times to come.

When the going gets tough, the tough innovate.

Guys Hormazd Sorabjee of Autocar India has given this huge scoop that this vehicle is not going to be a people mover(7 seater). It is going to be as OP suggested elongated INDICA XL, intended for taxi market.Hormazd also confirmed that Tata are working upon new variants of all their existing platforms.

The Tata Indica XL will certainly be powered by the highly efficient CR4 motor, which produces 70 BHP of power at 4000 RPM and 140 Nm of torque at 1800 RPM. The 1400 cc diesel engine is a miser when it comes to sipping fuel and returns a stupendous 25 km/l.The car Indica XL will mainly cater the Taxi segments. The Indica XL should sit right between the normal Indica and the Vista.

Isn’t the existing Indica spacious enough already? I’m curious to see how Tata is going to price and market this car.

Friends ,
After going through this thread, my imagination lead me to modify the Indigo CS into these versions. One in same length but boot height has been raised and the other has longer wheelbase too. I believe both the versions would be a hit with Cab segment.

Carabiker's imagination seems logical.

The car on test could be similar to the rendering shown above.

An IndigoCS with longer wheel base and a raised boot makes an excellent candidate for taxi segment.

No idea what the Tata's are upto with this. However, the rendering looks well proportioned.

Good rendering but I feel that if the length is increased then the purpose of CS (Sub-4 meters) will be defeated. Isn’t it? Tata has created havoc in the market with the number of Indica and Indigo versions floating around and they just can’t seem to stop it anytime soon.

Re: Now Indica-XL Or A New MPV From Tata?

Tata is still testing Indica XL which we all thought would be ditched after the new management change:Reader spots Tata Indica XL on test - will it come in 2013?

Now what could they be testing for so long as the engine and chassis are already time tested:

  • Are they testing a new 1.5 lt cr4 engine, which may later be used on Venture and Mini Sumo?
  • Or, are they testing the 1 lt cr4 engine displayed during the auto expo?
  • Will this vehicle come with 3 rows of seating?
  • Or ,will it be a streched hatch?
Man so many questions yet no answers in the near sight.Hope it'll be something different.[:)]
