Nissan will unveil the saloon version of the Micra at the Guangzhou show in December this year. Nissan will christen this new compact saloon the "Sunny". This name holds a very strong heritage in Nissan’s history; this moniker was used by Nissan for its small saloon since 1966 for many decades. However, it is not clear if the Sunny moniker will be used for India as Bajaj has rights to the name (The Bajaj Sunny is a scooterette launched in the 1990s but is now discontinued). The Sunny is based on the same architecture as the Micra hatcback and the interiors are likely to be similar too. The ‘V-platform’ on which it is based has been designed primarily to make financial sense in emerging markets, while being sophisticated enough for Western Europe. Engineered by Nissan in Japan, the V-platform project focuses on reductions in both weight and in the number of components that make up the future models. The Sunny will come with two engine options for India; a 1.5 litre four-cylindr motor producing around 100bhp and the 1.5 litre diesel that will be shared with the Micra hatchback. The Sunny will compete with the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Volkswagen Vento, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Verna and Chevrolet Aveo. Apart from engines, the new saloon may share interior panels with the Micra Hatch as parts sharing will help Nissan price the saloon competitively. According to sources the Micra saloon will be launched in the second half of 2011. Courtesy: Autocar India

Nissan Unveils New Global Sedan at the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile

Yokohama/India, December 20, 2010: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today unveiled the All-new Global Sedan model at the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition. Using the famed ‘Sunny’ name in China, this new model will go on sale first in China in January 2011 and then progressively across 170 countries worldwide under different vehicle brand names. The All-new Global Sedan, which is the second model to be built on Nissan’s versatile ‘V’ platform, will be launched in India in the second half of 2011 and will be manufactured at the company’s plant at Oragadam, near Chennai.

Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director & CEO, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. (NMIPL) said, Following the success of our first locally made car the Nissan Micra, we are happy to reveal the first visuals of the second car to be produced in India. We are confident that the New Global Sedan, which is also based on the versatile ‘V’ platform, will delight the discerning Indian customers. The model will be launched in India in the second half of 2011.

About ‘Nissan Sunny’ in China

The Nissan Sunny was first introduced in China in 2003 and was significant as the first locally built model from the new Dongfeng Nissan partnership. Acclaimed by consumers for its combination of quality, space and driving performance, the Sunny quickly help establish a foundation for the Nissan brand in the passenger vehicle market in China.

A projected class leader in fuel economy, the all-new Sunny is expected to appeal to young families looking for a medium sized sedan that combines a dynamic upscale design with the space, quality and features associated with the Sunny and Nissan brand.

Combining the proven Nissan 1.5-liter HR15DE engine with dual injectors and a new-generation Xtronic CVT with an auxiliary transmission, both of which are newly introduced in China, Sunny delivers ease in handling for city driving where there is frequent acceleration and deceleration, and superior environmental performance as a projected class leader in fuel economy.

MacPherson struts are used for the front suspension and a torsion beam for the rear suspension, making for sporty and agile driving at low speeds, and steady and stable driving at higher speeds.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

NISSAN’S "NEW GLOBAL SEDAN" IS NOT A MICRA SEDAN. IT IS A COMPLETELY NEW LOOK SEDAN BASED ON NISSAN’S VERSATILE ‘V’ PLATFORM.

THE MODEL NAME ‘SUNNY’ IS ONLY FOR CHINA MARKET. THE NAME FOR THE INDIA MARKET HAS NOT YET BEEN FINALISED. THE NAME AND OTHER SPECIFICATIONS INCLUDING PRICING WILL BE DECIDED AT AN APPROPRIATE TIME CLOSER TO THE LAUNCH IN INDIA.

This looks like the smaller version of Teana to me. I think i can see a sun-roof on the top!

But Nissan should improve the GC seriously for Micra and this sedan also.

Posting a few more official images of the Nissan Sunny. The tail lamps of this car look a way too much like the Tata Prima and Swift DZire, No?

Yes , the boot itself is looking a lot like Swift Dzire! Interiors are good and quite roomy , the instrument cluster was also looking nice in the ad!

That is what I was also thinking. Anyway it's much better looking than the Dzire.

BTW doesn't Bajaj own the Sunny name? There may be some legal issues on this.

It wont be just another boot attached version, but it does have some cues from Nissan Micra. Also the boot looks ill fitted in the pics.

That's why Manza, or for that matter, all Tata cars are best VFM. You get all the features for much less. I wonder why people go for non-Indian brands paying much higher for same features.
