Spied – Nissan Terrano

The Nissan Terrano has been caught testing in Tamil Nadu.

The front of the Terrano has been caught real close and there are no surprises here. It is the same as sketches released by Nissan India, though the prototype has been camouflaged.

The headlight would have a much sharper design compared to the Renault Duster (on which it is based) while the grill would have a honeycomb mesh with the Nissan logo taking center stage.

At the sides, the Terrano would sport a different crease line, one that is much lower than the Duster. The design of the alloy wheels is also different.

The rear of the Terrano will see a split taillight design. While this was being speculated from leaked CAD drawings, Nissan themselves confirmed it by releasing a sketch last week.

When it comes to interiors, the Terrano is expected to sport a few different bits than the Duster. The aircon vents for example are not circular like the Duster, but rather rectangular like in the Sunny/Micra. The instrument cluster’s design is also altered in the Terrano.

The Terrano is expected to go on sale during the festive season. Nissan would charge a premium of about INR 50,000 as is the case with any badge-engineered car from the Alliance.

Spied – Nissan Terrano in Chennai

Nissan Terrano has started surfacing on Chennai’s roads lately as it inches towards production.

The compact crossover which is essentially a Renault Duster sports some comprehensive sheet metal changes unlike the previous badge engineered examples of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

The Nissan Terrano features rectangular central AC vents. The steering wheel is same as that of the Duster but has silver accents. The rest of the dashboard is fully hidden from view suggesting there could be extensive changes.

The front fascia gets a ‘Nissan’ identity thanks to the wider honeycomb meshed front grill. When viewed from the side, the car looks very similar to the Duster but note the crease running through the lower part of the doors. Under the camouflage, you can see the taillights that were previewed by the official sketches revealed a couple of weeks ago. The two test mules adopted two different alloy wheel patterns.

Rendering – Nissan Terrano sports a split taillight layout

The Nissan Terrano has started its rigorous testing regime in and around Chennai where the car would be made.

The re-badged cousin of the Renault Duster seems to have a serious intention of hitting the market during the festive season. This is a production spec rendering of the Terrano’s rear, made by our expert image manipulator Shoeb. The rendering is based on the sketch that Nissan had released a week ago.

Compared to the re-badging exercises of the Nissan Sunny (Renault Scala) and the Nissan Micra (Renault Pulse), the Terrano seems like a more comprehensively designed product.

The compact SUV sports some noticeable sheet metal changes on the bonnet, door panels and the tailgate to differentiate itself sufficiently from the Duster. As you can see from the rendering, the Terrano sports a completely different set of taillights which extend into the tailgate.

The Terrano will adopt the same 1.5 litre K9k diesel engine from the Duster but it remains to be seen whether it would be offered in two states of tune (85PS and 110PS). The Terrano would be more expensive than the Duster by around Rs. 50,000, but Nissan plans to compensate the high pricing with better looks and a premium interior.

Spied –Terrano continue testing in Chennai

The Terrano is Nissan’s iteration of the Renault Duster which is due to go on sale by the end of this year. Going by the official sketches that were released, we can tell you that Nissan seems to have made a lot of changes to the Terrano to better differentiate it from the Duster.

The entire front fascia is different and the Terrano certainly appears sharper than the car it is based on. At the sides, the Terrano has a new crease line towards the bottom while the Duster sports it towards the middle. The alloy wheel design is also different on the Terrano.

Finally at the rear, the Terrano comes with a split taillight cluster and a new design for the bootlid. Inside, we are expecting Nissan to make the functional cabin feel a bit more premium. The AC vents in the center are of a rectangular design with chrome inserts while the Duster has a circular vents.

Expect the Terrano to cost a premium of about INR 40,000 when it goes on sale. A festive season launch would be likely.

Re: Nissan’s Upcoming Compact SUV ‘Terrano’ Coming in 2013

I was waiting for past 8 months for Ecosport, was ready with a cheque in the pocket for a week before launch, and when it launched, no one in the family liked the comfort level of the car.

everything else was great but too small space. made up my mind about duster or terrano.

Now the wait starts again for this car's launch. I am praying for a august launch or atleast bookings.

BTW if nissan is only rebadging duster with better interiors and a slightly different exterior why do they need to extensively test it??

This is just a duster with Terrano name and Nissan Badge, also the changes would be only cosmetic, just that they want to sell it massively under different brands.

Also, as far as i am concerned, they were testing this vehicle past 6 to seven months only where we could see the test mule pics.

Terrano to be unveiled on 20th august!!!
BTW does it mean that they are launching it or just teasing us further??
Great share!.If its unveiled then it's going to be released soon, probably by this Diwali.

Re: Nissan’s Upcoming Compact SUV ‘Terrano’ Coming in 2013

Previous cross badging exercises of Renault-Nissan alliance (micra & pulse, sunny & scala) has resulted in drop in sales of the both the brands combined. Hope Nissan is addressing this in Terrano

Spied – Nissan Terrano's testing ahead of August 20th unveiling

The Nissan Terrano continues to test in the city of Chennai. And no, there is nothing new about this prototype that was caught testing. Even though the company has released the design sketches of the front and the rear, the Terrano continues to wear a thick layer of camouflage.

Nissan would be unveiling the car on August 20th in Mumbai. Notice that we use the word ‘unveiling’ and not ‘launch’. This is because Nissan may not be announcing the prices of the Terrano on that particular day. They would just show us the car (without any camouflage!) and the actual launch may take place closer to the festive season.

The Terrano as you would all know by now, is Nissan’s interpretation of the Renault/Dacia Duster. Unlike the Nissan Micra-Renault Pulse badge engineered twins, the Terrano seems to sport a lot more changes to differentiate itself from the Duster. The entire front fascia has been changed and there are certain sheet metal changes to talk about also. The Terrano is likely to cost about INR 40,000 more than the equivalent Duster.

Spied – Nissan Terrano photographed up close

Terrano was caught on the NH45, and this highway also leads one to the Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai.

After having released a couple of design sketches, Nissan India has announced that the Terrano would be unveiled on August 20th in Mumbai. We do not expect the car to be launched then, it would be more like a showcasing event and the actual launch with the price announcement would take place later on, most likely during the festive season (September-November).

Underneath the hood, the Terrano is expected to use the same set of engines as the Renault Duster. Which means that there would be a 1.6-liter petrol engine and a 1.5-liter K9K diesel available in two states of tune – 85PS and 110PS. We expect the Terrano to cost about INR 40,000 more than the Duster as Nissan would have to pay a royalty fees for using the Duster’s platform. We have noticed that the Renault’s badge engineered cars such as the Pulse and the Scala cost a bit more than their respective Nissan cousins.
