The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class (internally known as BR205) has been spotted again and for the first time we get a glimpse of the interior, which clearly shows an iPad-style display for the infotainment and sat-nav.Also on show are the rounded air-outlets, which are slowly making their way onto most Mercedes' upcoming models.Externally the most interesting design feature is the bigger panoramic roof that may well come with the Magic-Sky option.

Set to arrive in 2014 is the sedan, followed six months later by the wagon and a year later by the coupe, convertible and maybe even a MST.MST stands for Midsize Sports Tourer, a cross between a Wagon and a Van or a smaller version of the R-Class. There are rumours Audi is working on their own version of this body type based on the next generation A4.Since the C-Class is one of the most important models for the automaker, they will not experiment too much with the design, but it still needs to look dynamic and sporty to give both the Audi A4 and the BMW 3-Series a good fight.

The new C-Class will not only be offered with various gasoline and diesel engines, but also a hybrid variant for the first time. And the automatic gearbox will now extend its speeds from seven to nine.

What is Mercedes Benz up to? The car has been camouflaged such that it resembles to a BMW. Nonetheless, the cockpit looks sporty. I hope the new design is more proportionate than of existing model. Current C’s front looks aggressive while rear-end is absolutely poles apart.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-class will look far more dramatic than today’s model and be imbued with a big dose of sporting intent.

The fourth-generation C-class will also be offered with the latest in-car networked internet connectivity and cutting-edge safety tech. These features are part of a bid to endow it with a more contemporary standing than ever before to take the challenge to the BMW 3-series.

The new model is set to get its first public airing in just over a year’s time at the 2014 Geneva motor show. It has been thoroughly re-engineered with the express aim of attracting younger buyers.

Mercedes insiders claim that little or nothing will be carried over from the existing C-class in a move described as a “new beginning” for the 3-series and Audi A4 rival.

“We want once and for all to discard the idea that the C-class is a car bought by your grandfather, ” said a high-ranking Stuttgart-based official involved in the new car’s conception. “We have gone to extensive lengths to ensure it will meet the expectations of a younger generation of buyers, both visually and technically.”

The change in emphasis for the new car, codenamed W205, has been driven by the decision to add the smaller CLA to the Mercedes line-up this coming summer.

The swoopy four-door CLA, previewed by the Concept Style Coupé, is planned to occupy a slightly lower market segment, with more affordable pricing than today’s C-class. This will allow the next C-class to be repositioned half a class higher.

Four new C-class models are planned. Alongside the initial saloon and estate, set to be revealed in March 2014, Mercedes is also preparing a more individually styled successor to the coupé as well as an all-new fabric-roofed cabriolet for launch in 2015.

All four are set to receive the go-faster treatment from AMG, which is preparing a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine for the new car.

Dimensions

The length of the new C-class has increased by 100mm over today’s model to 4700mm. That puts it on a par with the Audi A4 and extends it 75mm beyond the 3-series saloon.

Some 80mm of the added length is concentrated within the wheelbase, which increases to 2820mm. Autocar can also reveal that the tracks have been widened by up to 40mm to give it a larger footprint. A corresponding increase in width takes it to about 1810mm.

The bigger external dimensions are claimed to provide the new model with significantly improved interior space. Leg, shoulder and headroom have improved in the front and rear, according to Autocar sources. The new C-class is also set to offer greater luggage space. The boot capacity of the saloon has risen to 485 litres, which is more than in an A4 or 3-series.

Chassis

The new C-class will be the first model to use Mercedes’ new MRA (modular rear-wheel drive architecture) platform. The hot-formed steel monocoque structure is, in lengthened forms, also set to underpin future incarnations of the E-class and S-class, among a whole line of models. It has been conceived using the latest construction techniques and, together with further weight-saving measures brought to the chassis, is said to help the new car to undercut its predecessor on the scales despite its considerable increase in size.

Nothing is official yet, but a new base C160 model is said to weigh less than 1380kg, despite increases in both static and dynamic rigidity, both of which are described as class-leading.

The new C-class looks likely to eschew the MacPherson strut layout of the existing model up front for a new double wishbone arrangement, providing greater wheel control and added lateral stiffness for improved handling. The rear, however, retains a similar multi-link system to the existing C-class’s, but it has been extensively redesigned for added levels of refinement.

Engines

Unlike the CLA, which uses a transverse engine layout, the new C-class retains longitudinally mounted engines. A new mounting procedure sites them lower in the engine bay and slightly more rearward than with today’s model for improved weight distribution and a lower centre of gravity.

Mainstream engines will include four-cylinder and V6 petrol units, ranging from a 184bhp 2.0-litre turbo to a range-topping 330bhp twin-turbo 3.0.

The diesels are initially likely to include an upgraded version of the existing 2.1-litre engine in up to four states of tune, spanning 120bhp to 220bhp.

All engines will receive automatic stop-start and brake energy recuperation, along with other efficiency-boosting measures. Combined with the reduction in kerb weight, this is claimed to bring improvements of up to 20g/km in CO2 emissions.

Mercedes also plans to introduce a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid version of the new C-class in 2015. Details are scarce, but sources suggest that it will have an all-electric range of up to 18 miles.

Further developments include revised driveline architecture with an altered driveshaft layout. This will allow Mercedes to produce the new C-class in standard rear-wheel drive and optional 4Matic four-wheel drive in both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive guises for the very first time.

Up until now, driveshaft packaging constraints have caused the 4Matic C-class to be produced in left-hand-drive form only. The new layout will be adopted by the next GLK SUV, which will also be produced in right-hand drive.

The new C-class is set to be launched with a six-speed manual or a newer version of today’s seven-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the engine. A new nine-speed automatic transmission is currently undergoing development. However, Mercedes sources suggest that it is unlikely to find its way into the C-class until the next model receives its planned mid-cycle facelift, in 2017. The plan is that it will initially find its way into more upmarket offerings before trickling down through the line-up.

New tech

Adaptive damping control will be standard on all models and a new electro-mechanical steering system will offer a range of hands-off automatic parking options.

The technology that Mercedes plans to use in the new C-class includes a full range of safety features also destined for the facelifted E-class. It features a stereo camera that provides additional collision prevention functions, such as the car braking itself automatically to reduce the severity of an impact.

Also included will be a new Distronic Plus feature with Steering Assist, which keeps the car centred in a chosen lane and tracks traffic in tailbacks. There will also be Brake Assist Plus with Junction Assist, which detects cross-flow traffic and pedestrians and can boost the braking power if insufficient force is applied by the driver to avoid an impact.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class enters testing phase

The fifth generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been spotted testing in the United States. Sitting above the CLA-compact sedan, the new C-Class will get added features like the latest driver-assistance systems developed by Mercedes-Benz to create a meaningful gap between the two models. The new C-Class takes cues from its elder siblings in terms of design philosophy.

The face of the car is dominated by an optional new grille accentuated by a large three point star and newly designed air intake vents giving the bumper a more chiselled look. The C-Class will be built on a new platform that will spawn sedan, coupe, convertible and station wagon variant. The 2015 C-Class as always is rear-wheel drive but will be offered with the option to upgrade to an all-wheel-drive setup.

The next generation C-Class will be powered by a range of engines. The newly developed 1.6-lintre four cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 250 horsepower, as well as the turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 as that will feature in the new E-Class will be on offer. The AMG version of the new C-Class will also get a new turbocharged V-6 engine which will replace the M156 6.2-liter V-8 sitting in the current model. The C-Class is expected to come with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic transmission.

It will be interesting to see if the C-Class will inherit the DRL mounted headlamp cluster from the E-Class. A diesel-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid options may also be on the charts from the German manufacturer.

Rendering – The 2015 Mercedes C Class is a baby S Class

2015 Mercedes C Class started testing last year and the spyshots show that the three-pointed star’s bread and butter model in its future avatar.

The overall size of the sedan is expected to grow so as to enhance the space inside (the rear seat legroom mainly). We also expect Mercedes to offer a China specific long wheelbase version too.

The new C Class, which is codenamed W205, should have its fair share of safety and equipment. Rumor has it that the new C Class would feature a segment first air suspension. It has also been reported that the STEERING ASSIST and DISTRONIC PLUS would be seen for the first time on the C Class, funneling down from the S Class.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class new spy shots emerge

Mercedes-Benz had recently updated the sedan range with a facelift model of the E-Class and an all-new S-Class. Next up in line is the C-Class, one of the most successful models from the German auto manufacturer. Mercedes has been readying the C-Class for a while now and now spots shots have emerged revealing more styling cues of the luxury sedan.

The 2015 C-Class will feature a roofline similar to its bigger sibling, the S-Class and creases similar to the CLA. The tail light also seem to be based on the S-Class, but there in not enough clarity on how the head lamp cluster of the compact sedan is styled, a feature which is now distinct for each of the models rolling out from Stuttgart.

Mercedes has already announced that the new C-Class will have a bigger footprint compared to the current model while reducing weight considerably. The car will be based on the company’s new Mercedes’ new MRA (modular rear-wheel drive architecture) platform and will feature a plug-in hybrid option like in the S-Class, along with the standard petrol and diesel engine options.

The 2015 C-Class is expected to be unveiled during the latter half of next year and should be available in the Indian market soon after. With the luxury market improving its presence at a rapid rate, the C-Class will be pitted against the A4 from Audi and the 3-Series from BMW.

Next-gen Mercedes Benz C63 AMG caught without camouflage

In typical AMG fashion, the C63 AMG looks quite menacing with its aggressively styled quad tailpipes and the flat black alloys at the rear. The test vehicle also sports a rear diffuser and a slightly restyled rear bumper.
The upcoming C63 AMG is one of Mercedes’ very important models as it will be powered by the brand’s new 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which will replace the 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8. The twin-turbo unit will eventually replace the existing 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 found in a variety of Mercedes car models.
Codenamed M177, the new 4-litre twin-turbo V8 is expected to produce between 454bhp and 493bhp depending on the models. It will be paired to Merc’s 7G-MCT SpeedShift automatic gearbox. The same engine is also expected to power the upcoming AMG GT sports car which is expected to debut sometime during the end of this year.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Long Wheelbase Spied Virtually Undisguised

The long-wheelbase version of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been spied in China, prior to its official launch in less than two weeks at Beijing Motor Show.

The car seen here in the image is a C260 L equipped with the AMG Line kit. The car is virtually undisguised as it only has some white tape on the headlights, taillights and grille.

The C-Class L version has a wheelbase of 2900 mm, which makes it 60mm longer compared to the standard 2014 C-Class. The rear passengers will enjoy the additional leg room as a result of the stretched wheelbase.

The China-only C-Class L will be offered with 2.0- and 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engines. Also on offer would be a 1.6 liter four pot gasoline motor.

Scheduled to make its official debut on April 20 at the Beijing Motor Show, the Mercedes Benz C-Class L will go on sale in the second half of the year and will lock horns with the Audi A4L, BMW 3Li and Volvo S60L in the Chinese market. This is the first time Mercedes-Benz is building a long-wheelbase C-Class and production will take place in China at the Beijing-Benz joint venture.
