Two days back, I have purchased the all new Xiaomi 14 black color from Amazon.

I have been using it for the last 2 days and here are my thoughts on the premium Android phone.

The phone has a flat rail around the display with smooth curved corners. It is made of premium aluminium. On the back, it has a matt finish with Xiaomi branding at the left side bottom. It has a big square camera module with three 50MP sensors and LED flash in the top left corner.

On the right side, you can find the power and volume buttons, but no buttons on the left side. At the base, there is a type-C port, a SIM tray, a microphone and a speaker.

The display comes with Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus shield, and they claim that it will protect the screen from daily wear and tear such as scratches from coins, pens or keys when the phone is kept in tight spaces such as pant pockets. (I need to see how it works?)

The phone comes with an IP68 rating, meaning it can survive water splashing and also accidental drop in the swimming pool for up to a depth of 1.5 metres (five feet) and for close to 30 minutes. For extra protection from accidental drops on the floor, Xiaomi is offering a free silicone case along with the device.

Wi-Fi 7 capability

Stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos

Sensors: Proximity sensor/Ambient light sensor/Accelerometer/Gyroscope/Electronic compass/IR blaster/Barometer/Flicker sensor/X-axix linear vibration motor

Operating system: Xiaomi HyperOS, based on Android 14

It houses a triple-camera module—50MP (with 1/ 1.31-inch Light Fusion 900 sensor, f/1.6 aperture, Hyper OIS: Optical Image Stabilization, Leica Summilux lens) backed by 50MP 115-degree Leica ultra-wide angle lens (with f/2.2, Samsung JN1 sensor), and a 50MP Infinity Leica telephoto camera (with 3.2X 10cm with f/2.0, OIS, Samsung JN1 sensor) with LED flash. In the night mode, it performs well and takes sharp photos with less noise.

It can also digitally zoom up to 60X. Durign the testing, picture quality remains good up to 30X, beyond that, the photos begin to become grainy. It also supports up to 8K video recording. The video quality is top-notch and stable, too, good enough to make high-grade vlogs.

More details can be seen from here

Personally, I liked this compact handset very much in all aspects except its weight (196g) and camera projection, which is much more than the camera set up in other phones.. Maybe I have been using the Vivo V20 pro for the last 4 years, and it weighs only 166.5g, which means an increase of 30g all of a sudden feels a bit uncomfortable for the time being, I think.

However, the most impressive aspect of this phone is the Leica camera system. It takes spectacular photos with clear details and vibrant colours in all light conditions. Of course, I myself did not try any photographic sessions, so far

Xiaomi needs to up the game with flagship products. I still have my PocoF1, which is a benchmark from them. My RedmiNote11 doesn't have that much image quality when compared to much lower MP Camera of PocoF1. The seamless processor (Liquid cooled) was the image booster for the brand.

There is one new pre-installed app comes with Xiaomi 14 called as Gemini. With this app we get help learning in new ways, writing thank you notes, planning events, and more. Gemini can connect with Google apps called Extensions, like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube, making it easy to get things done. Use text, voice, images and your camera to get help in new ways. Even we can ask the assistant to write a letter on a certain topic, and it will be done. The assistant will also read the letter out for our convenience.

When checked with Google, found following details:

Gemini, formerly known as Bard, is a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Google

Bard is a conversational generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Google, initially based on the Lambday family of large language models and later on the PALM LLM

Start a conversation
You can access your Gemini mobile app to chat a few different ways, depending on your device and settings:

Chat by typing
To chat with Gemini by typing, open your Gemini mobile app. Use the on-screen keyboard to type, then tap Send. You can also type to chat in Gemini’s conversational overlay that comes up when you say “Hey Google” or activate Gemini by touch.

Chat with your voice
To chat with Gemini with your voice:
  1. On your Gemini mobile app, tap Microphone .
  2. Say your question or prompt.
Still, keep learning what all other features it has it. I have to find everything on my own, since Xiaomi didn't give me an owner's manual that explains all the new features.
