yes after their success with the XUV makes sense to do it as the brand image already exists, i always used to wonder what would happen if they indeed launch it as a Ssangyong brand though in India?(there has been a lot of internal debate at M&M on this)

Looks huge , high time the fortuner has some competition, i am sick of Toyota continuing to demand that premium(i love the fortuner by the way)!

+1 Even i dont like the attitude of Toyota Thanks to the demand they can charge a hefty premium and get away with it.

Nah, it will be a dud if launched as XUV 700 seeing the current reports of XUV 500. And in anycase it will be launched as Ss..yong. So, it will not be XUV or anything funnier.
But if this is launched between 14-17L, it will kill XUV as well as Fortuner. Good part though will be M & M then may launch XUV W4.

^^^ Whether you agree to it or not and whatever reports are there online, there is a HUGE demand for XUVs. I have visited M&M showroom several times and I have seen people fighting for bookings. And this is NOT when the car was just launched. This is after the second phase of bookings.

Even in the second hand market, XUVs are going at 1-1.5 Lacs premium than the on road price of a new XUV. Ever heard of a second hand car being more expensive than the same new car itself?

XUV has had a tremendous response and M&M should cash on it rather than building the SsangYong brand.

Yes that's right XUV's unprecedented demand does not seem to fade any time sooner,and even I believe that this should be launched as a Mahindra and not an unknown Ssangyong brand.

Updated SsangYong Rexton shown

SsangYong has showcased an updated version of the Rexton SUV at the Busan Motor Show, dubbed the Rexton W. The new SUV sports major styling upgrades and all-new powerplants.

In terms of styling, the Rexton W gets new projector headlamps with LED-surrounds and LED fog-lamps. The redesigned chrome-lined grille is now wider and looks much smarter than before, and it houses a large SsangYong logo in the centre. The front bumper is also all-new and much more aggressive than the current model. The new wheel-arches blend well with the overall design, as opposed to the bulbous ones on the current car. It also gets integrated LED turn-indicators on the wing mirrors.

The Rexton’s trademark Z-shaped C-pillar remains and rear styling gets minor sheet-metal changes. The rear bumper-line now flows well with the lip of the boot-lid and the mildly re-shaped tail-lights look better. On the inside, the SUV has received minor upgrades - lighter shades and improved plastics.

Powering the Rexton W is a new and efficient turbo diesel, called the e-XDi200 active. Mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, this new 154bhp 1,998cc in-line four-cylinder diesel motor replaces the current 2.7-litre engine sourced from Mercedes. A new 2.2-litre twin turbocharged diesel motor, developing a whopping 221bhp, is also in the pipeline. However, it isn’t clear what engine option will be offered when the Rexton is launched in India.

The new Rexton W will hit Korean showrooms by June/July 2012. Mahindra is planning to launch the Rexton in India soon, but it remains to be seen which model will make its way here.

The Ssangyong Rexton showcased in Moscow

The 16th annual Moscow Motor Show just concluded on the 30th of last month. Many companies showcased their new and exciting products at the show. Ssangyong took the opportunity to showcase the Rexton W for the European markets.

The Ssangyong Rexton W is 475 cm long, 190 cm wide, 184 cm tall, and the wheelbase is 283 cm. It features a comprehensively re-designed front fascia with exquisite details such as
An all-new chrome grill
18-inch alloy wheels
Double barrel headlamps
LED DRLs
ORVMs with turn indicators
Sporty tail lamps
Ssangyong has taken special care to make sure that the materials used in the interiors are of high quality.
In Russia, the Rexton W will be launched with a 2.7L XDi motor with 165PS, a 2.7L XVT motor with 186PS and a 3.2L V6 with 220PS. In other European countries, it will be offered with a 2.0L XDI diesel engine with 155PS. The transmission on offer will be a six-speed manual or a X-Tronic automatic.
The Ssangyong Rexton W is already testing in India. It has been spotted numerous times on the Indian roads. The Rexton should head to India during Diwali with a price tag of 20-25 lakh rupees.

I have seen this car in Kuwait and Australia not the latest one but the current generation though it will sell well without a shadow of doubt it's not huge by any means compared to the fortuner .
But the new one looks modern very classy and upmarket .
