Re: New SsangYong Rexton - Teasers Released

Here it comes the all new Rexton in updated Avatar was revealed to the general public at Busan Auto show Dubbed the 2012 Rexton W, The Rexton W, apart from getting a big cosmetic facelift also comes with a more fuel efficient turbo diesel engine which is an all new engine that has been developed by Ssangyong with a particular focus on punchy low end torque for good driveability.Called the e-XDi200 Active Turbo Diesel engine, the motor displaces 1,998cc and comes in an inline four cylinder layout. The engine features a variable geometry turbocharger and a common rial direct injection system to pump out a peak power of 154 Bhp while peak torque is rated at 360 Nm. Crucially, this torque is available all the way from a low 1,500 rpm, in a wide rev band of up to 2,800 rpm. Also, right from idle, the engine delivers 190 Nm of torque, which is one of its biggest selling points as driveability will be terrific with that kind of low end torque.

The engine conforms to Euro V emission norms and is capable of being upgraded to Euro VI norms. Ssangyong also has a twin turbocharger variant of this engine that is much more powerful with 225 Bhp and 500 Nm being the power and torque outputs respectively. However, the SUV maker intends to use this engine in a high performance luxury saloon for now. Coming back to the Rexton W SUV, the looks of this butch off roader mirror the teasers that were released a week ago. The front end sees a big revision with new bumper, new grille, headlamps and day time running lamps.

The rear too is completely redesigned. While we’re yet to take a look at the interiors, the press material suggests that Ssangyong has worked on the dashboard by infusing it with a dash of chrome to make it look more premium. Also, the Rexton W’s interiors have been upgraded to endow the SUV with the feel and comfort of a luxury sedan. The SUV also gets a boat load of safety and convenience features including ESP, ARP (Active Roll over Protection), TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), UWS (Ultrasonic Warning System) , a smart key system, eco cruise control, Rain sensor wipers, etc. The Rexton W will go on sale in the Korean market by June 2012, the same month when it will be launched along with pricing details. On whether Mahindra will launch this SUV in India remains to be seen.

It does not look as handsome as the pics which was released prior to this unveiling, But never the less its much more palatable than the previous version, and the new engine spec's sheet look's very promising i am sure these engine's will also make it our Mahindra's Vehicles.

Some more pic's will be added later on.

Re: New SsangYong Rexton - Teasers Released

On releasing teasers of the new Rexton a few believed this would be a new generation model. But now we know that’s incorrect.
Ssangyong has presented the Rexton facelift dubbed Rexton W that sports an all-new 2-liter diesel engine that produces 154bhp of peak power and 367Nm of peak torque. A bi-turbo version of this engine is in the works which produces up to 200bhp/500Nm. The facelift was completed over a period of two and a half years and the W stands for “Work of Art.” Since a new engine is part of the changes, the testing period was long.
The 2L diesel engine returns a fuel efficiency of 13.7 km/l (2WD A/T), an improvement of about 20% as compared to the existing Rexton. It is mated to a Mercedes-sourced 5-speed automatic transmission.
Coming to the cosmetic changes, the front-end transformation is a delicate chrome affair. The front-grille looks classy and projector headlights with LED light guide have been installed. The hood has been redesigned and turn indicators are installed on the car’s wing mirrors.

The car is mounted on new 18-inch alloy wheels. Ssangyong has mentioned in the press release that the vehicle will be available at dealerships in Korea during June.
The car continues to boast of a decent level of safety features such as ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ARP (Active Roll over Protection), TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) and UWS (Ultrasonic Warning System). Convenience features such as smart key, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity and rain-sensing wipers are also available. Ssangyong has mentioned that a power socket is provided on the dashboard so that its customers can charge their accessories on the move.
We have no word from Mahindra if the Rexton facelift is the model the company’s supposedly bringing out later this year. Mahindra has tested and showcased the pre-facelift model at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.

Seems this is 5 seater only. If so, bad news for M & M fans as they don't like anything less than 7 seats.[glasses]

Looks excellent. Love the overall design, the SUVish stance and the butch image. Whether it sells or not, this vehicle will have amazing road presence. Love the LED detailing in the HLs.

The dashboard, though looks nice but is not as stylish as the exteriors.

@ S Class: The Rexton is a 7 seater. The Korando is a 5 seater.

And M&M fans say - give proper 7 seats, else give comfortable 5 seats.

Have a look at the second last pic, this SUV is huge. Launch it as the M&M XUV7OO and price it competitively. I see a winner.

Mahindra always get's the price right, if it undercut's Fortuner in regard's to price then they will have a long list of customer's for sure.
