I remember reading an interview when Jagdish Khattar was MSIL’s boss, He stated “We have no plans to compete with Nano in any future line-up”. So there seems to be less chance of releasing a product priced down to earth like nano but Yes, If Cervo is coming, it might be a replacement for 800 which is soon going to phase out. What remains is about “Made in India” Model, This very news is floating since a last few months but no confirmation about the price or any details.

Yes, Jagdish gave a open statement about this long back.

They will not price Cervo for just 1.5Lakhs. Its a rumour from Day1 of the launch of Nano

Yes, very true. IMO, they should face out 800 (Sorry, I hate to say that) and bring ALTO in that place, making ALTO as the base car from MSIL. Cervo can take ALTO's current place. Am I getting crazy here :stupid:

Well if this car finally comes out with the expected price tag of 1.5-2lakhs then surely it will be a good and better replacement for 800! But the interiors and exteriors doesn look like a car of this price!

The M800 is well past its day in the sunshine, I suspect the base Alto will replace it soon.
Of course, MSIL may milk it for as long as they can, but it is not good for their image today, is it?

Yes, you are correct. But MSIL can not reduce the price of ALTO to the M800 level. So they have to think about a new car, if they wanna replace 800.

A new car will always bring with it the unwanted baggage of amortization costs.
Bringing down the price of an already amortized Alto may be a good way to have a cheap entry level car, and still make money.

What Maruti 800 is to us is Alto for foreign markets. Since the Suzuki Alto doesn't leaves any month topping the sales chart with huge sales of about 20,000, Reducing its price down will not be of much logic as it is already doing so well but what Maruti would need to focus is their new product – Cervo, Which could be hit by the key pricing.

700CC & 54bhp seems to give promising economy!

But 30ltr tank is real suprise as cars with 45Ltr tank is common now a days!

Not really. Our current Maruti 800 comes with a 28-30 Liter Fuel Tank, So the one in Cervo with this small engine should suffice. Even if it is tagged with Rs.2 Lakh pricing, Cervo could prove to be a better and reliable alternate to Nano for those who don't mind spending few bucks extra.

Fuel tank capacities always factor in the likely mileage, and any range that is 400 km or more is decent for a personal use vehicle.

The interiors are a disappointment again! Not looking great which is very much similar to Swift! But cannot expect anything great with its price tag!! But a great replacement for M800 and even if its priced at 2L will sell like hot cakes!
