150cc within 45k is really a steal deal! And yes the boxer is now making its presence common in our city and the new graphics or vinyls makes it a decent bike to view.

Anybody Ridden the Boxer 150?

so i went to test ride the avenger. and there it was, this old style bike. had no clue that bajaj had ever launched a boxer 150cc variant. i kind of felt like it has the right shape to make a cafe racer. unfortunately, i didn't get to ride it. came home and looked at the specs: seriously a 4 speed gearbox? it has a more torque high rpm engine. there's even a video of it pulling a tractor. my question is, is there any way to trick it out to make it, sportier? after all, it does have a 150cc engine.

I agree with you. A cafe racer tank, seat and a rear cowl would make the Boxer 150 look real cool. But let's not talk about the way it runs. It's a true VFM bike (150cc for 100cc money)for someone who doesn't care about image.

Bajaj had a lot of expectation on Boxer which it failed to deliver, the power commuter didn't really catch the fancy in Tier2&3 cities where it was targeted, and also they took no effort to promote this product which is a shame.
now they want to change the fate of Boxer by launching a 100cc Boxer,100cc eat's a lion's share of the 2wheeler market and knowing Bajaj's pricing strategy it will surely be priced well.

Below are the first test mule which was caught by ICB

if this bike is failing then it's really miserable for bajaj. This is a cool bike which is simple but powerful. I don't know why but I find it really appealing and manly. Only missing part is front disc brake even if it's cost 2k more.

Bajaj Auto, country’s largest exporter of motorcycle is seeing good demand for its motorcycle Boxer BM 150 in the African and Latin American market as per the news reported by Financial Chronicle. Boxer BM 150 which was launched in India last year failed to create big numbers in the domestic market due to soft marketing and unclear positioning. However, it is very well received in the foreign markets.

This is really surprising news as Boxer BM-150 (Bharat motorcycle) was mainly developed and targeted to rural India market. Boxer is very well established and dominant brand in Africa, hence Boxer BM 150 success can be attributed to the same. However, success in Philippines market is largely attributed to the features of the motorcycle.

Boxer BM 150 has specific features like a very wide seat which can accommodate three persons at the same time, wider rear tyre and SNS suspension for better grip on muddy road with pothole, heavy duty clutch and brakes and an engine which produces torque of more than 12 Nm. These all features are much required in rural India. Emerging nations have more or less similar kind of demographic and geographic situation like rural India.

It is to be noted that, although these are emerging markets, Bajaj Auto has to face Chinese and Japanese competition in these markets. China is known for producing motorcycles at cheapest price which no other manufacturers can match but these motorcycles are very bad at quality front. Japanese are known for producing quality motorcycles; however they are not better on specific features front. Honda launched CB ACE 125 in African market to take on Boxer BM 100; however it is not able to make any difference to Boxer sales. Apart from Boxer, Pulsar is also well established brand in foreign markets.

K Srinivas, president – motorcycles, Bajaj Auto said “Our Boxer motorcycle is the market leader in Nigeria, where we entered six to seven years ago and it was strongly dominated by Chinese brands. Interestingly, Boxer is the top selling model despite being costlier by about 30 per cent than other competing brands. While we see a Pulsar mania in Latin American markets, it is Boxer mania in countries such as Nigeria in the Africa. It is the brand that pulls the customers in all these markets.

He also added,”Even though, Boxer is not seeing big sales in the domestic market, it is the largest selling brand in Africa. A new 150cc version of it, the BM-150 has been well received and presents good growth prospects. In Philippines, Boxer BM-150 and the Pulsar 135 were launched last year and were well received, with the latter helping Bajaj Auto to gain 34 per cent market share in the sports segment. “

Not surprising. African climatic, infrastructural and economic conditions are just like those in rural India- no respite from the hot sun, no roads, and no money. BM-150 makes perfect sense there indeed.

ps: I think the 'HOODIBABA' advert would also make perfect sense in Africa. What say TAIndians  ?

You are right, but what amazes me here is that this product makes even more sense for our rural market but the hinterland consumer's tend to disagree.

Bajaj phases out Boxer 150 in India

Sliding demand for the Boxer BM 150, aimed at the utilitarian market, has forced Bajaj Auto to phase it out from the domestic market only year after it was launched.
Launched exactly a year ago for Rs 43,000 making it the cheapest 150cc bike in India, the Boxer BM 150 also known as the 'Bharat Bike' was introduced to serve the rural markets.

Its rugged built, simple styling and high power delivery were aimed at the rural buyer for delivering better performance than modern day 150cc bikes. However, it failed to enthuse buyers.

K Srinivas, president - motorcycle business, Bajaj Auto, said, "We produced 8,000 units of the Boxer 150 last month and all of it was for the export market. We are discontinuing model in the domestic market".

Similarly the Platina 125 is also phased out from the local market, said Srinivas, though it is available in the export market. The Platina 100, the cheapest bike from the company, is still selling at 50,000 units a month.

Meanwhile, the company also said that it hopes that the slide in demand will get arrested in the upcoming festive season where it is targeting a growth of 10 per cent in sales. However, the company has indicated that it will not raise prices of its products immediately unlike Chennai-based TVS Motors which has been contemplating a rise.

The Pune-based company also stated that the upcoming 100cc bike will also be the costliest bike in its class with advanced technology. Srinivas, however, declined to give details of the product but stating that it will be launched before the end of the financial year.

The slowdown notwithstanding Bajaj is all set to enhance production capacity at all its four plants by nearly 27 per cent to 5.7 million units from 4.5 million presently. The company is restricted in exports on the Discover with most of the production being supplied to the domestic market.

"The Pulsar 200NS has been very well received by the market beating our expectations. The bike saw sales of 8,500 units so far and we are starting exports of it next month where we are also hiking production to 10,000 units a month. Exports of the Discover 125ST will also begin next month with 5,000 units", added Srinivas.
