They should have launched this at least two years ago.

Anyway better late than never.

Looks are not classic like other Mercedes Benz cars but still far better than the funny looking BMW X1.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class Diesel Launch in next few weeks

German luxury giant, Mercedes-Benz that launched the much anticipated A-Class premium hatchback in India a couple of days back, is now planning to roll out the B-Class diesel in the country. The confirmation came on the day when the A-Class was launched in Mumbai, Mercedes-Benz India President & MD Eberhard Kern said that the B-Class diesel will be launched within a few weeks. And like we reported earlier, he also disclosed the company's plans of launching the S-Class in India by early 2014.

The B-Class is the first vehicle to have been developed on Merc's newly developed front-wheel drive MFA platform, the A-Class too has been developed on the same. The B-Class is currently sold in petrol only variant, the diesel variant of the car will derive its power from the 109bhp, 2.2-litre diesel engine, which also powers the A-Class diesel version.
As far as the prices are concerned, the B-Class diesel should be priced a little over than the A-Class diesel version, so to maintain the price gap between the two differently abled products.

Mercedes B Class diesel to cost less than the B180 Petrol?

The Mercedes B Class diesel for India would feature the same 2.2-liter four cylinder diesel engine seen on the recently launched Mercedes A Class. While the B Class was launched in 2012, the unavailability of a Euro 4 spec diesel engine prevented Mercedes India from introducing the diesel variant.

Mercedes could have easily introduced the Euro 5 compliant diesel engine, but we learnt from the company that our country’s fuel quality was not really the best and fitting for a Euro 5.

Even the 2.2-liter diesel engine seen on the A Class produces only 108bhp of power. The same 2.2-liter produces 170-odd bhp in the C Class and 203bhp in the E Class! Mercedes have had to retune the engine so that it would offer a class leading fuel economy (20.06km/l on the A Class) and yet run smoothly on our country’s fuel. The 2.2-liter diesel engine in this state of tune cannot be found anywhere else in the world!

The same 2.2-liter diesel producing 107.3bhp (on the B Class) at 3,200rpm and 25.5kgm of torque from 1,400rpm-2,800rpm will be used. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission will send power to the front wheels of the B180 CDI.

Mercedes would introduce the B180 CDI in a lower spec ‘Style’ trim only. As a result, you no longer get the panoramic sunroof seen on the B180 Sport. The 17-inch alloy wheels give way for higher profile 16-inches.

Thanks to these deletions, the B180 CDI is expected to be priced lesser than it’s petrol sibling. Mercedes did the same with the A Class wherein the diesel is about INR 80,000 cheaper than the petrol.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class Diesel Launches Tomorrow- July 11

German luxury auto giant, Mercedes-Benz that launched the B-Class sport tourer in the last quarter of 2012, is now all set to launch the diesel version of the same car tomorrow. Mercedes-Benz India is focusing on launching several affordable cars for the Indian buyers, and the launch of A-Class at a starting price of Rs. 21.93 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) further proves the company's intention to tap a bigger market share via small luxury cars. B-Class petrol however could not live up to the company's expectations, but a diesel luxury vehicle at an affordable price seems an intelligent step.

The B-Class diesel will carry the similar 109bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine, which also does its duty to the A-Class diesel version. The B-Class was the first vehicle to have been developed on Mercedes-Benz's newly developed front-wheel drive MFA platform. The A-Class too has been developed on the same.

The prices are concerned, the B-Class diesel should be priced a little over than the A-Class diesel version, so to maintain the price gap between the two differently abled products.

Launched: Mercedes B180 CDI

The fight between the German luxury carmakers is intensifying by the day. While Audi is going the performance car way with the RS5 and S6 (launching tomorrow), Mercedes has chosen a completely different path. They think the hatchback way is the way forward. Last month they launched the gorgeous A-Class in both petrol and diesel engine options and now they’ve launched the diesel avatar of the bigger hatch, the B180 CDI. While the A-Class impresses with its flamboyant styling, this one has a more practical way of looking at life.

The B180 was available only with a 1.6-litre petrol block under the hood. But you can now have your ‘Tourer’ even with an oil burner. This is the same 2.2-litre engine that does duties in the A-Class and the E-Class, just that this one puts out 108hp and 250Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox that channels the power to the front wheels.

To keep the costs in check, Mercedes has got rid of some of the features that the petrol version gets, like the Park Assist and the reversing camera. This one also misses out on electronic adjustment for the passenger seat and a sunroof.

So by doing all of this, Merc has managed to price the B180 CDI lower than its petrol avatar. And to be specific, its Rs 22.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
