Maserati has announced that Grecale SUV will make its global premiere on 16th November in Milan, Italy.

Maserati has a tradition of naming its cars after the world’s most famous winds. It started in 1963, with the legendary Mistral, followed by Ghibli, Bora, Khamsin and in 2016 with Levante, the brand’s first SUV.

Grecale is named after the north-east wind of the Mediterranean Sea. Maserati claims this SUV will play a key role for the brand and transform the everyday driving experience into something outstanding and extraordinary.

Maserati is testing Grecale Prototype in Swedish Glades to fine-tune start-up and driveability at extreme temperatures and to check the vehicle dynamics on mixed surfaces of tarmac, snow and ice.

Tests were also done to fine-tune the car's traction, understeer, oversteer in different drive modes and to maintain comfort in all weather conditions, varying from a few degrees above 0 to -30°C in Lapland.

Press Release:
Testing continues on the Grecale prototypes, this time in the cold of the Swedish glades where they have delivered their maximum power in extreme conditions and on very low grip surfaces.

Not even snow and ice can hinder the Grecale’s energy: during the mission the prototypes were tested to fine-tune their start-up and driveability at extreme temperatures, to check the vehicle dynamics on mixed surfaces of tarmac, snow and ice, and to maintain in-car comfort in all weather conditions, varying from a few degrees above zero to as low as -30°C in Lapland.

Tests were also carried out to fine-tune the car's traction, understeer and oversteer in different drive modes and with varying sizes and types of wheels, to specifically characterise each of the driving modes on offer.

Even in extreme conditions, the Grecale extols its exceptional soul on low grip handling tracks, completing high-performance laps on various circuits, from steering pads to more demanding routes featuring corners, slopes, long straights and drops, on snowy or icy surfaces.

Grecale is the everyday exceptional even in freezing temperatures on expanses of snow as far as the eye can see.

Maserati Grecale is roaming on the streets of Modena with light camouflage ahead of its unveil on 22nd March.

The main message on camouflage is: “I’m the Maserati Grecale. I can’t tell you much more”. However, there’s also a series of messages that offer a hint of the Grecale’s technical specifications.

New 2022 Maserati Grecale leaked ahead of 22 March debut

Maserati Grecale teasers.jpg

This is the first undisguised look at the new Maserati Grecale SUV. The company’s new baby SUV will debut on 22 March, becoming a direct rival for the Porsche Macan, as well as other premium crossovers such as the BMW X3 and Jaguar F-Pace.

Maserati Grecale teasers-2.jpg
These new images confirm key design details that we’ve already seen on prototypes. The car appears to mould some of the design cues from the larger Levante SUV and the MC20 supercar into a mid-size SUV package.

Maserati Grecale teasers-3.jpg

Its front end features the same broad grille and floating Trident common to all of Maserati’s vehicles along with a headlight design similar to the new MC20.

The rear looks a lot like a shrunken version of the Levante, with a strip of chrome that feeds into the light clusters. Meanwhile, the quad-exit exhaust system and diffuser are also reminiscent of what’s found on the Grecale’s larger sibling.

In profile, the Grecale’s shape is similar to the Levante’s, despite the reduction in length to around 4.7 metres. However, the steeply sloping windscreen and rakish rear end mean the car will straddle the gap between a traditional two-box SUV and fashionable coupe-SUV competitors such as the BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC Coupe.

The car’s front wings also feature Maserati’s trademark tri-vent outlets and like the rest of Maserati’s lineup, there’s a Maserati badge sitting on the rearmost pillar.

Maserati’s Nettuno engine is capable of producing up to 622bhp and 730Nm of torque, but we expect the brand’s engineers will detune the V6 for use in the Grecale.

Eventually, Maserati will also offer the Grecale with a pure-electric powertrain on an adapted platform. Power and torque figures for the electric model are yet to be confirmed, but Maserati has previously suggested that the architecture will feature 800-volt battery technology (like the Porsche Taycan) and support up to 300kW rapid-charging.

From 2022, all of the company’s pure-electric models will carry the “Folgore” suffix which translates from Italian into English as “lightning.”

To bridge the gap between the two extremes, Maserati will also offer a range of hybrid powertrains. Again, specifications are unconfirmed, but one option available to Maserati is the 325bhp 2.0-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine from the Ghibli.

Maserati has also set a number of targets for the Grecale. The company claims it will have the greatest top speed of any SUV in its class, while also being the fastest accelerating, best handling and most spacious. Ambitiously, Maserati also plans to go up against the Germans in terms of technology, claiming the Grecale will offer the best in class sound system, too.

Maserati Grecale, the brand’s first-ever fully electric SUV, has now been unveiled. It’s also available in internal combustion as well as hybrid engine versions.

The Grecale GT, equipped with a 4-cylinder Mild-Hybrid motor, delivers 300 HP and 450 Nm while Modena churns out 330 BHP. Both variants have a top speed of 240 Kmph.

Fully-electric Maserati Grecale Folgore runs on a 105-kW/h battery using 400V technology. It's claimed to be capable of delivering as much as 800 Nm torque.

There's also a high-performance Trofeo which is equipped with a 3.0L V6 (Petrol) offering 530 BHP and 620 Nm torque. It performs 0-100 Kmph in 3.8 seconds with a top-speed of 285 Kmph.

Maserati Grecale is also available in limited numbers in the PrimaSerie Launch Edition.

Press Release:
The new Maserati Grecale SUV is “The Everyday Exceptional”.
Grecale strikes the right balance between versatility, elegance, performance and innovation, guaranteeing performance, comfort and safety, all at the same time. These features are combined with off-road capabilities and uncompromising driving pleasure. Developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena, the new SUV is produced at the Cassino plant.

Grecale is a range within the range, the Trident brand’s fullest ever. An extremely wide range of engines is available: conventional internal combustion, hybrid and, in a year’s time, Grecale will also be the first full-electric SUV in Maserati history.

Three versions will be rolled out at launch: GT, powered by a four-cylinder mild hybrid engine capable of delivering 300 hp; Modena, with a four-cylinder 330-hp mild hybrid engine; and the powerful Trofeo, equipped with a high-performance 3.0L 530-hp petrol V6 based on the Nettuno engine fitted to the MC20. At launch, the Grecale is also available in the PrimaSerie Launch Edition, a limited edition featuring exclusive content.

To complete the range, the Grecale Folgore, the 100% electric version with 400V technology.

The new SUV stands out in terms of spaciousness and comfort, boasting an impressive set of “best-in-class” features. It is best-in-class in terms of interior space, driveability, handling, acceleration (0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds – on the Trofeo), top speed (285 km/h – again on the Trofeo), sound quality and extensive use of fine materials such as wood, carbon fibre and leather.

Its dimensions are a major factor: in the GT version, Grecale is 4,846 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,901 mm, a height of 1,670 mm, a width of 2,163 mm (including wing mirrors), with a rear wheel track of 1,948 mm (and even greater in the Trofeo).

The design of Grecale embraces Maserati’s new visual symbol, which distinguishes every new model since the MC20. The front features a low and imposing grille. The profile is notable for its contrast between purity and technique, with a highly fluid body featuring meandering, visual forms and its technical components highlighted by the use of carbon fibre. In the rear, the boomerang tail lights are inspired by the Giugiaro 3200 GT and fit in with the trapezoidal line, made even more striking by the coupé effect of the cabin and its finish like a sports car's.
Inside, in the cabin, the standout tech specs include the traditional Maserati clock face. Digital for the first time, it transforms into a veritable in-car concierge, courtesy of voice control.
Everything becomes touch-based, with extreme aesthetic cleanliness. The technology is controlled from the displays: the large 12.3” central screen, the largest ever seen in a Maserati, another 8.8” display for the extra controls and a third for the passengers in the rear seats.

The in-car experience is managed from the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system, from the state-of-the-art infotainment and from Maserati Connect.
The in-car sound is pushed to the absolute limits of enjoyment by an all-round sound experience, ensured by the typical Maserati roar and the immersive Sonus faber 3D sound system. The Sonus faber system – as standard at Premium level – includes 14 speakers, or 21 speakers on demand at High Premium level.

Every journey is transformed into a unique adventure that combines dynamic comfort and an unforgettable driving experience, made possible by the extraordinary handling provided by the new, 100% Maserati Vehicle Dynamic Control Module (VDCM) system and the 360° control it offers over the car. The option of complete control translates into a clear distinction between the various DRIVE MODES: COMFORT, GT, SPORT, CORSA (Trofeo only) and OFF-ROAD.

For Grecale’s World Premiere - a special digital event on the brand's website (houseof.maserati.com) - Matilda De Angelis and Alessandro Borghi – Brand Ambassadors and internationally renowned Italian actors – were selected to embody and explain how the new model represents the everyday exceptional. Also in attendance was the Italian artist Dardust, with an exclusive backing track to part of the digital event.

The engineers at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena have worked directly with Dardust to design the in-car sound. A joint effort that has taken shape in a transfer between technology and sound design, to customise the “chimes” – the sound alerts received by the user as part of the extraordinary driving experience aboard Grecale.
