Maruti to Buy Diesel Engines From Fiat - WSJ.com

As per above report, MSIL will procure 1 Lakh engine from Fiat India. This would be in addition to present 3 Lakh engine MSIL sourced from Suzuki Powertrain ltd. (under license from Fiat for using MJD technology).

Since Fiat India is 50-50 JV between TML & Fiat, how TML will react to this move, specially because most of Vista-Manza sell are from diesel variants ? Any constraint on MSIL part should indirectly benefit TML.

For example, we have seen increase in sales of Vista during strike at MSIL factory (resulting in less production of Swift).

On the other hand, Fiat India is a loss making venture so any source of income should be welcomed.

So it would be difficult to be in the shoes of TML at this point.

Maruti will also come up with Wagon-R Diesel with smaller engine using same tech. Sometimes I feel sorry for carmaker like Fiat, who have all the main resources and also lending them to various manufacturers. But ironically they themselves are not able to perform well in market

There are any remote chances of Fiat cars sold and serviced under MSIL roof?. If this could happen then Punto and Linea have very good future.

Well even though selling with Suzuki looks quite an idea, ideally I would not like Fiat to go this way again. Come on sell your beauties yourself! Open your own showrooms and make customers feel good and passionate. Every other car manufacturer has done this including Renault and Nissan recently. So why not Fiat?

Component sharing is going on all over the field.

Ford uses some PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) engines0. The BMW Mini uses them too. Ford uses also Fiat engines. Fiat uses some Peugeot lumps and the story goes on.
