Re: Suzuki Swift Sport For India

Swift+Ritz+Dzire+Ertiga and now Swift Sport, all cars built on the same platform and guess what, each car is a HIT!
Nice move from Suzuki, all the enthusiastic petrolheads and street racers who were asking and willing to have a hatch >120 hp can be relieved now.
This may not sell in great numbers and I think Maruti also know this.
They know that they also have to please the market and give them what they want, less numbers of one car won't matter much if again they are trying to give a product in the segment which didn't exists in India until now.
Good move Maruti Suzuki! [thumbsup]
1.6L engine is highly preferred with 5 doors IMO.

Re: Suzuki Swift Sport For India

Why cant we have a hot diesel hatch. That takes care of performance as well as economy.

I want the following cars in India -

Polo with Vento's 1.6 TDi (so easy)
Punto with 1.6 MJD

In the higher end, I want FIAT to lauch the Bravo and VW to launch the GOLF, though it wont make sense for the manufacturers from a profit POV.

I wish they launch it with a proper 6-speed aisin warner torque converter automatic like in the international variant. I am thinking that this could be a 1.0 Boosterjet for India.

Maruti Swift Sport will not launch in India – Because it will be too expensive

Suzuki Swift Sport is sold in many right hand drive markets across the globe. But, the car is not sold in India, which is the biggest market in the world for Swift hatchback. More than 50% Swift sold in the world, find a buyer in India.

Thanks to such stats, and rise in demand for sportier hatchbacks, enthusiasts were hoping that the ultimate top-spec Swift Sport with 140 PS engine will be launched in India someday. Sadly, Maruti has now confirmed that it is not going to happen. Not any time soon.

At the media drive of the new Maruti Ciaz, which is currently ongoing in Bangalore, Maruti Suzuki India told reporters that the Swift Sport is not meant for India in its current form. The reason, it could be very expensive.

If launched in India as a CBU, the price of Maruti Swift Sport could go as high as Rs 20 to 25 lakhs. Thanks to high import duty and GST for CBU cars. At this price point, there are multiple options which are on offer – from executive sedans like the Skoda Octavia to premium SUVs like Jeep Compass. Selling a hatchback, which traditionally is a small family car – does not make sense.

Speaking about engine specifications on the Swift Sport – it gets a a 1.4 liter, 4 cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine offering 140 bhp power and 230 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual. As compared to the regular Maruti Swift, the Swift Sport receives stiffer suspension and visual updates.

What can come to India, at a later stage is Swift RS. Just like the Baleno RS, India could get a Swift RS with 1.0 liter petrol engine that is rated at 103 PS and 150 Nm. Thanks to made in India tag, Swift RS could get an attractive launch price of Rs 7.5 lakhs, ex-showroom.

Suzuki Swift Sport drift video is insane – Should Maruti reconsider India launch?

Here is one reason why Maruti Suzuki India should reconsider their decision to not launch the Suzuki Swift Sport in India.

At the media drive of new Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki India revealed that they will not be launching the Swift Sport in India. The reason – it will be very expensive for our market. As per estimates, if launched in India, the price of Suzuki Swift Sport could be in the range of Rs 20-25 lakhs.

Now, this has saddened a lot of enthusiasts, especially those of us who have been waiting for the top of the line Swift – which now is the fastest Swift around a race track ever. Adding salt to the wound is this new video by Aman Oliver, a professional car drifter. Watch him play with the machine on a race track in the video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU8ptkRO9iI#action=share

The Suzuki Swift Sport hatchback, the sportiest car sold by the Japanese automakers. Apart from the drifting video, the car was recently subjected to this Moose Test and scored high points. It earned praise from testers both where its responsive steering and ability to maintain stability was concerned.

Moose Test is performed to determine how well a certain car can evade the sudden appearance of an obstacle. The test is standardized in ISO 3888-2. It is performed on dry road surface with traffic cones set up in an ‘S’ shape. The car to be tested has a driver and passenger in each seat while weights are placed in the trunk to achieve maximum load.

Powered by a 1.4 liter BoosterJet turbo engine, which delivers 140 PS for a car which weighs just 970 kgs. This makes the small car fast enough for everyday use, and some race-track fun on the weekends.

Sadly, as things stand, the Swift Sport in its current avatar is not going to be launched in India. Hopefully, Maruti has plans to launch the Swift Sport in the future, as they too are aggressively marketing themselves as a premium car maker. And a car like Swift Sport in their portfolio definitely adds points to that claim of theirs.
