After treating all the customers in India with the fourth-generation Swift, Maruti Suzuki is now planning to introduce the hatchback’s CNG version. It has been reported that the launch is just around the corner, and the vehicle is likely to arrive in the market in the coming months.

The report suggested that the newly launched Swift will be transformed into a CNG avatar, featuring the same design elements, style, graphics, and features.

Expected Engine, Power and Mileage
The upcoming Swift CNG is expected to use a fresh 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine. It will allow the customers to enjoy a decent power of 82hp and 112Nm torque of peak torque. The unit will be matted with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an optional 5-speed automatic transmission.

If rumors are to be believed, the CNG version might offer a robust mileage of over 35km/kg. To note, these are just the speculations, a concrete confirmation is awaited by the brand.

Current Lineup and Expected Price of CNG

Currently, the Swift facelift petrol models come at the starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top model goes up to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). It is expected that the future CNG model might hit the market with increased prices, making it costly by Rs 80,000 to 90,000.

Maruti Suzuki India launched the fourth-generation Swift in the country on May 9. The carmaker is now planning to introduce the CNG version of the popular hatchback. According to our dealer sources, the Swift CNG will enter the market in the second week of September.

Maruti has the largest portfolio of CNG models among the carmakers in India. It currently offers 14 CNG models. Among its top-selling CNG cars are the Ertiga, Brezza and Dzire.

In August 2024, the country's largest carmaker sold 49,602 units of CNG cars with a penetration of 34.67% in its domestic passenger vehicle volumes.

For any Maruti car, the CNG variant is priced Rs 95,000 more than its petrol counterpart. Developed with a total outlay of Rs 1,450 crore, the Swift is priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom). Even with the Swift, we expect the CNG variants to come with a premium of Rs 95,000.

The Swift employs the new Z-Series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which produces a maximum power of 82PS and a peak torque of 113Nm. The transmission options include 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. In the Swift CNG, the power and torque figures will be lower.

The Swift is one of Maruti's largest-selling cars in India. The carmaker has sold nearly 3 million units of the hatchback till now. While the first-generation Swift was launched in 2005, the second generation entered the market in 2011. The third generation was introduced in 2018.

Maruti has sold 65,513 units of the new Swift since its launch in May. The hatchback is expected to perform even better with the introduction of the CNG version
