India's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India announced earlier today that they sold their 10 millionth (1 crore) car in India earlier today.
The 10 millionth Maruti Suzuki car to be sold in India is a red colored Swift Vxi hatchback. The car is already on its way to its owner in Coimbatore.
Maruti Suzuki started selling cars in India 31 years ago in 1981, as Maruti Udyog Limited. Their first car to be sold in India was a M800 small car.To reach the magical figure of 5 millionth it took MSIL 25 years in Feb 2006.While the next 5 million cars were sold in just 6 years.
Model-wise, cumulative sales were led by the company's old war horse Maruti 800 (26.36 lakh units) followed by entry level hatchback Alto and its varient K10 (19.08 lakh units), Omni van (14.37 lakh units), WagonR (11.14 lakh units) and Swift at 6.85 lakh units. It said the success of its hatchback cars, WagonR and Swift, had helped in accelerating the company's progress towards the 10 million mark.
The company also unveiled a celebration edition of its sedan, SX4.
