Re: XUV 5OO Buying and Initial Ownership Experience

I dont think that was an excuse. I have worked in this industry. Temp registration cars are always delivered from the stockyard as they cant be driven inside city limits without reg number.
there is something called as escort octroi, u pay in while entering the city and pass through - i remember near mumbai it used to just cost 30rs some years back, not sure about Pune - it shud vary slightly between different octroi areas.

Also the dealer cannot sell the vehicle without doing a temp registration , its like a temp thing which gives u a 7 day time period before u do the actual registration - the time period i think varies from state to state in india.

@Iron Rock: Congrats on your new car.

Wish you miles of Happy & Safe Motoring.

And that was a splendid review from a rookie..

And Black panther is ready to fall on it's prey.

I prefer calling it Panther than Cheetah...[angel]

Thanks Mukeshus[:)]

Btw forgot mentioning one of the documents required for registering your car is the ARAI certificate which Mahindra procures for all of its models - i noticed the ARAI certificate has a W4 too along with a W6 and W8. So i am guessing this is no frills barebones version.

Cannot say for sure why its not being launched, but may be its a weapon to use against the competition at the right time or when the price increases also launch a low end model?- offcourse cannot say for sure but yes something like a W4 was planned and does have an ARAI cert.

re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying and Initial Ownership Experience

Firstly, many many congrats for your latest possession - The Cheetah!
Secondly, thank you for explaining much about the car. There was a TD review pending here and you made it up with your honest opinions.

Wishing you many more happy miles with your XUV500 [thumbsup].

Yes 3 hrs now that I joined the forum and I am beginning to type my first thread on the ownership review side.
Thats the real spirit of a TAIger!

I blindly recommend honda cars for anyone looking for a petrol car. Bulletproof and hasslefree ownership really. Yes there are issues with spare costs and availability recently but doh!! i love revving a civic!!
I too recommend Honda for the same reason. Lets just spare the low GC.[glasses]. I love revving my ANHC!!!

On the day i booked the car it was all smilies, but a week later it turned out horrible. The dealer....
...I must again say for the XUV Mahindra has pulled out all plugs in ensuring the customer is the king and the dealers who are used to selling tractors and logans should not mess up with customer experience.
We still wonder why most of the dealerships are like this. But, its great to see Mahindra is more focussed on customers and respect them unlike few other manufacturers.

At this point i felt Mahindra is leaving no stone unturned to ensure its XUV customer happy. Really Kudos to them - i am planning to ask them for a free gift - may be one of their moto gp bikes ehh :P. cause so far they told me a yes for everything and rightly so i think!! They also updated the navigation and ECU.
This is the way that they can get a fair play into a premium segment market.

Total Costs :-

Ex Show :- 11.87
Insurance :- 12k (comprehensive, i had NCB which i transferred from another vehicle, dealer was asking some 48k)
Octroi - Nil ( outside octroi limits [evil], in pune it comes to some 47/48k)
registration :- 95K ( dealer was asking 1.12L)
accessories :- 29k

Overall savings from Dealer listed price considering octroi/registration and insurance :- 1.03 lakhs[:D]
Are you kidding me about the insurance? Suprised to see it just at 12K. However, was the NCB a combined one from other vehicles?

In regards to the registration, why is the cost high? Is it inclusive of taxes and a fancy number? Can you help us with a split up if possible?

I do have few questions for you coz my BIL is planning for a XUV 500 and was not impressed with few things as per his enquiry:

1. How is the engine noise when at idle?
2. How is the breaking? Is it effective? Are there any noises/ feedback during the breaking?
3. How is the steering feedback in high speeds?
4. Are you planning for any underbody treatment since you told that there will be grass upto 8 feet?

Congrats Iron Rock and an outstanding review, just what I was expecting. It’s true that pricing of XUV500 has simply left everyone in a huge shocker. This has become a fairly common sight on the roads now but still seeks for your attention and I love the way it looks. Good that you chosen black which at least camouflages the overdone front-end to an extent. Thanks for the wonderful review and amazing pictures. Do make sure to keep us updated about the experiences in future. I’m sure this will become one of the hottest threads in our forum soon. [thumbsup]

Congrats Iron Rock for your wonderful possession. I bought a Scorpio few months before the launch of XUV thinking it might be priced somewhere near 17lakhs and this was a big disappointment when launched with this price tag :( Anyway Enjoy your ride !! and keep sharing some pictures of your rides..

yes the low GC offcourse, but now that i own a civic for long, i consider myself a better driver with much improved techniques in terms of negotiating the small mountains legally created by the civic authorities[:D]

Are you kidding me about the insurance? Suprised to see it just at 12K. However, was the NCB a combined one from other vehicles?
Well the insurance thing was a 'jhugaad' done by my trusted insurance guy against NCB from my other vehicles - when i heard it will come to 12k for XUV i said go ahead blindly...
Btw talking of insurance i always buy insurance from companies where i have a trusted friend or relative - in the not so good times of claiming that always helps going by experience

In regards to the registration, why is the cost high? Is it inclusive of taxes and a fancy number? Can you help us with a split up if possible?

Well I dont know about other states , but in Maharastra and at Raigad its 8% on the ex-showroom (include the vat/prices price from the invoice)

I do have few questions for you coz my BIL is planning for a XUV 500 and was not impressed with few things as per his enquiry:

1. How is the engine noise when at idle?
Well i found the NVH lower than Fortuner honestly - compared to the civic u can still say tht i know the engine is running, with the civics unless u see the rpm meter u r never sure. There is nearly no diesel clatter and at speeds all ur hear is the wind noise

2. How is the breaking? Is it effective? Are there any noises/ feedback during the breaking?
Braking is very effective for the suv this size, though as i wrote in my review the civic feels better- but tht might just be set up and feel issue and i havent braked hard or tried stopping distance on this - i am very nice to my cars [;)] ..Ill come back to braking when i used the car more on different tarmacs

3. How is the steering feedback in high speeds?
Steering is spot on neither light nor hard - very responsive though, the only difference i felt from the civic it requires half a lock or so more when u do a full turn. Someone had reported vibrations with the speed alloys at 110kmph , but mine are stock and no such problems so far.

4. Are you planning for any underbody treatment since you told that there will be grass upto 8 feet?
Ohh well underbody treatment is really for rust - i dont think it might help with the grass and weeds - but having said that the underbody is fully protected with plates underneath except the exhaust pipes, which run underneath it - so yes it comes with factory fitted steel underwears [lol]

Thanks again and dont regret your decision but make the most of it [:)], retrospectively we would all do a lot of things differently, but no one can predict whats the new vehicle round the corner and u never knew i might be in the same situation as you down the line.. instead use ur steed for a couple of years , sell it then buy a new one relevant to the times, always enjoy the driving experience and ur steed [:)]
