Mahindra-XUV400.jpg

Mahindra is gearing up to launch its first electric SUV in India next month. As per the latest media reports, this home-grown automaker will launch the all-new Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV in September 2022. The XUV400 will be essentially the production-spec version of the Mahindra eXUV300 showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in New Delhi.

While the exact specifications of the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 aren’t known yet, we do know that it will measure 4.2-metres in length. In comparison, the ICE-powered XUV300 and its direct rival, Nexon EV, measure 3.9-metres in length. Thanks to the increased length and wheelbase, the XUV400 should offer more space than its prime competitor.

Talking about the powertrain, Mahindra’s XUV400 is expected to come with two battery options and it will use high-density NMC cells for a superior driving range. One can expect the XUV400 to offer a claimed range of 350-400 km on a single charge. In comparison, the Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max’s ARAI range is rated at 312 km and 437 km per charge respectively.

The Mahindra XUV400 will be powered by a single motor and is expected to deliver around 150 bhp. In terms of features, one can expect this electric SUV to be pretty loaded as that’s the case with all other new-age Mahindra cars. Talking about the price, the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 is expected to be priced from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom. It will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, etc.

Mahindra XUV400 teased ahead of debut on September 8

Mahindra_XUV400_teaser_1200x768.jpg

Mahindra is finally ready to reveal the production version of its electric SUV based on the XUV300. Christened Mahindra XUV400, the electric SUV has been teased ahead of its debut on September 8, 2022.

The teaser doesn't reveal much besides the name and reveal date. However, it does indicate that the Twin Peak logo in Copper that was revealed for the XUV sub-brand, one of two eSUV labels that were announced recently along with five all-electric concepts, will make an appearance on the XUV400. The copper colour theme will extend to the grille as well. The XUV400 is also likely to sport a different set of headlamps, tail lamps and bumpers compared to the XUV300.

Expected to be positioned in the Rs 15 to 20 lakh space, the XUV400 could get a 30-40kWh battery back and a claimed range of around 300-400km. The '400' in the name stands for 400km range perhaps?

Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV revealed

xuv400-fb.jpg

Mahindra has revealed its first electric SUV, the XU400, for the compact segment on World EV Day. Based on the same platform that underpins the XUV300, the XUV400 will also look like its ICE-powered counterpart.

2.xuv400-6.jpg
“The Mahindra Group is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2040 and our EV game plan is at the core of this mission. We are doing our part against climate change with the unveil of the All-electric Mahindra XUV400, a fun-to-drive generously sized SUV boasting excellent interior room for our discerning customers,” Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Design, M&M Ltd said.

“The market too is extremely receptive for a clean, enjoyable and capable vehicle, and we foresee stupendous growth in the category. The XUV400’s class-leading acceleration delivers an adrenaline rush, while its exceptional range offers anxiety-free drive,” he added.

The XUV400 is powered by a 39.4 kW Lithium-ion battery pack paired to a P5M motor, producing 147 hp and 310 Nm of torque as early as 2500 RPM. This helps the XUV400 reach 0-100 km/hr in just 8.3 seconds, which makes it the fastest EV in the segment. As for its range, Mahindra claims that the XUV400 can travel 465 kilometres at a stretch on a single charge as per Indian driving cycle standards (MIDC).

The XUV400 also gets a 50 kW DC fast charger that can complete 80% charging in 50 minutes. And if charged with the conventional 7.2 kW/32A outlet then the charging time is 6 hours 30 minutes to charge from 0-100%.

To ensure a refined ride and not let the weight of the battery affect the SUVs’ ride quality, Mahindra also equips the XUV400 with the MTV-CL (Multi-tunable Valve with Concentric land) and FDD (Frequency Dependent Damping) to its suspension set-up. This makes the XUV400, the first-in-segment electric SUV to feature so.

The XUV is 4200 mm long and boasts a wheelbase that is 2600 mm long. It offers the best-in-class boot space with 418 litres of maximum storage space. At 1821 mm, it is also the widest e-SUV in its category.

The XUV400 looks similar to its ICE counterpart, the XUV300. However, there are some distinguishing design factors like a new closed-grille design that features the brand’s new twin-peak logo in a unique satin copper finish, making it the first Mahindra SUV to do so. Other features include a new tweaked front bumper design, dual-tone colour with significant trim accents in satin copper finish, high gloss finish alloy wheels etc.

Bookings for the all-new Mahindra XUV400 will start from January 2023 onwards when its price will be announced too. Deliveries expected to begin by the end of January next year
