Mahindra & Mahindra, without doubt is one of the most VFM car brands out there in the Indian market. Known for its rugged MUVs and SUVs which promise to last the eternity, the Indian car major is planning to enter the cluttered small car market with its own product. The auto manufacturer which builds everything from scooters to heavy trucks plans to launch a 1000cc small car in the lucrative small car market with a target price tag of Rs. 2.5-3.5lakh.
Mahindra & Mahindra is one of those car companies which have mastered the art of frugal automotive engineering, and a car in that price bracket from India’s largest UV manufacturer may just ring a danger bell for quite a few small car players out there. All of Mahindra’s products including the Xylo MUV, the Scorpio and Bolero SUVs, the Thar 4×4 and even the Verito sedan represent ruggedness, reliability and great value for money. The new small car by the carmaker should deliver more bang per buck to its customers once its production begins in later 2012 to early 2013.
Mahindra & Mahindra are reported to have chosen Tamil Nadu as the destination for setting up a plant for the new car. The state has emerged as India’s largest hub for small cars in recent past with a healthy ecosystem of suppliers around it. Proximity of a port for exports makes the destination even more favorable.
Apart from the new small car, the company has plenty of other products lined up for launch. The Mahindra World SUV, or the W201 may be launched anytime now. The Xylo Mini, whose pictures we showed you yesterday also seems to be in a production ready state. Apart from these two, a smaller version of the Verito, probably with a truncated boot may also be launched soon. The sub-4 meter car with lesser duty implications, and thus a smaller price tag has been spotted on one occasion. Apart from these mainstream cars, the REVA NXG and NXR electric cars too are lined up for a launch very soon. The REVA brand was taken over by Mahindra some time ago.
The new Mahindra small car is said to be codenamed BLR and a design prototype has reportedly been shared with the parts vendors. Expect the new Mahindra car to be a rugged, reliable and VFM products, if not the most refined.
The new Mahindra small car may have enormous appeal in the rural markets. People in those regions swear by Mahindra’s reliability. The new small car by the Indian carmaker has the potential to become an instant hit in these circuits, if not in the urban market.
