MM540 and MM550 are no longer avaiable new. If you mean that you wish to buy one of these second hand then you must look at private sellers on various websites. If you wish to go for a new jeep, go for the Thar DI which is much better than a used MM540/550.

Difference between Mahindra Jeeps -

MM540 : It came in both 2WD and 4WD. It had a 2.1 Litre 62 BHP indirect-injection diesel engine (XDP 4.90) with a 4 speed Gear box.

MM550 : An MM540 itself, but with 4x4 (no 4x2 variant) with refreshed interior and a 2.5 Litre 72.5 BHP indirect-injection diesel engine (XD3P) with a 5 speed gear box.

MM440 : MM540 fitted with a petrol engine (hurricane F-134). Only in 4x4. Later it also had a 1.8 litre Isuzu engine and was called MM ISZ.

CJ340 : The civilian jeep (CJ) was produced in USA. It had different versions over years like CJ3B/2A/4/5 and so on. In india, Mahindra manufactured the CJ3B. It came with the Peugeot 2.1 engine. It had a SWB (Short Wheel Base) chassis.

CL340 :
After 1970s, CJ was renamed as CL.

Classic : It was a limited edition CL340.

Also,

MM650 : It was the MM540 with LWB (long wheelbase chassis). Was also available with 4x4.

MM750 :
This was a longer MM650, targeted as a UV to transport people.

None of these are available today. you will have to buy an old Jeep and restore it.

Alternatively, you can buy the Thar Di or Thar CRDe.

Did you consider Maruti Gypsy?

MG410 : The oldest one with the 1.0 litre 45bhp engine. Had a 4 speed gearbox.

MG410W : W stands for wider track. This is the same MG410 with wider track. Did not have hublocks as standard accessory.

MG413W :
This was known as Gypsy King. Came with the Esteem's 1.3 litre engine. Also had a 5 speed gearbox. Initially, it had a carburetor but since 2000, it has the MPFi.

i have some doubts and Suggestion needed from the Experts.

1) Is MM550 only for Army ?
2) When MM550 start production ? When MM550 production stopped ?
3) NGCS model produced which year ? When MM550 NGCS stops production ?
4) The MM550 comes with which engine ?
5) Pros and Cons of the Stock Engine ?
6) The MM550 Gear box is a good one or need to change ?
7) Incase i swap the Engine to DI Turbo it need to change the Gear Box also ?
8) SUGGEST me a Jeep Mechanic Around my place or all over Tamilnadu.
9) Is the Army Auction MM550 is in Running Condition or Not ?
10) Any one having a MM550 in Perfect condition also suggest me.Incase you suggest me a MM550 from your friends get a direct look in the beast.
11) My whole budget iis around 3.5-4(max) is possible to get a MM550 in good condition ?

I am not a Hardcore Off roader.The MM550 will run 70 % on roads.Only 30 % on Off roads.But i want a MM550 with Solid condition.

After Getting the MM550 we talk about MOds.

Hi Mr Sam

Please let me know why you rate that di above mm 550? that di don't have led but mm 550 do have, so for off road , is mm 550 a better option compared to that di?

@ jaison i beleive the MM550 was a 4x4 hence a better offroader than MM540 which was 2x4 drive. However Jeeps are basically used for less hassels i mean less electrical and more mechanical as it is used in areas where there might not be a good mechanic available.

DI engines are purely mechanical and very basic electricals are used. hence it can be repaired anywhere by any mechanic who knows how a diesel engine works.

CRDI engines are full of electricals i mean ECU sensors etc which may cause failure during off roading and will have to be taken to the showroom itself and costs a bomb if something needs to be replaced compared with the DI. Hence the statement.

however DI engines are only available in Tier 2 cities due to emission norms do check whether a Di can be registered in your R.T.O and proceed.

Hope your doubts are cleared.
