KTM Duke 390 (2016) - Long Term Ownership Review

The Duke has been put up for sale as I am inclined to jump to a Japanese twin. Lets see how it goes.

Odo - 74840 Kms

The bike is nearing 75000 Kms. Rear tyre needs to be replaced. Chain started showing uneven tension. So will have to replace it in the coming months. Other than that, bike is doing completely fine.


Yes it was a faulty centre case gasket. Took 2 days for the work to be completed since it required almost complete dismantling of the bike.

Do you have an itch to upgrade ?

No good ADV Tourer bikes in the 5-7 Lakh price range to upgrade. So have been contemplating on whether I should get ADV 390 or not. Maybe in future, get an Africa Twin. My wife is into touring on Bikes. Thats why options have become limited.

Got the bike serviced and centre case leak rectified during the service. Made use of the AMC from the dealer.

Odo - 75600 Kms

Replaced the rear tyre with same Apollo Alpha H1. Bought from Amazon for 5500, fitting at a nearby shop for 250. It came 700 Rs overall cheaper compared to offline tyre stores. June/July 2023 Stock. The older ones ran for almost 15000 Kms before touching the tread wear indicator. Had to use the tyre for 1500 Kms more due to lack of time. Unike Metzellers, the tyre didnt feel deadly even when almost no tread left.

Chain Sprocket replacement, Valve door Gasket and General service are the next in line works.

Odo - 76400 Kms
Duke's running has reduced a bit since I have bought a used Activa for daily use. ABS warning light is turning on sometimes. Since the speedo is working fine, it must be the front sensor. Need to get it checked at the ASC during the next service along with the valve door gasket.

ABS sensor and valve door oil leak is still yet to be rectified. Went on a 300 km roundtrip ride with wife to Dzogchen monastery, near Kollegal.

Not much running this month. Just went on a couple of Late night runs to stretch his legs and keep him running.

My duke ran almost 14000 kms before it hit the TWI. It has now been replaced by the below :

This is the tried & tested Ninja 300. The support from Kawasaki Bengaluru has been excellent from day 1. I completed the run-in within a week & changed only the front tyres to the Apollo Alpha, will need to do the second service in December. The bike has run just over 2.3K kms in over 4 months.

Not much happening with the bike. Just stretching its legs on the highways a couple of times to keep it in shape. All the works are still pending along with an additional broken tail light(didn't know how it happened).

Few runs on the highway to stretch his legs. Other than that not much happening.

Been a long time since there have been any updates here. I finally let go of Ryuk in February at a good deal at around 78K Kms.
