Kia Sonet HTK+ 1.2 petrol gets sunroof; priced at Rs 9.76 lakh

Kia has launched a new variant of the Sonet – HTK+ 1.2-litre petrol-manual – which, priced at Rs 9.76 lakh (ex-showroom), is now the most affordable variant in the line-up to be equipped with a sunroof. This is also the first time a sunroof has been made available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine. So far, it was only available with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines.

The HTK+ trim already gets a sunroof, but that’s only with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. A sunroof is, of course, one of the most sought after features in cars these days, and this new variant makes it more accessible by Rs 73,000 in the Sonet line-up. The HTK+ is also one of the more popular trims, and is currently the most feature-loaded trim you can have with the 1.2-litre engine.

There are, however, no other changes or updates to the equipment list. It continues with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic AC, wireless phone projection, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, automatic headlamps, keyless entry and go, rear camera, and 4 airbags.

To give you a recap, Sonet gets three engine options: there’s a 83hp, 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol that comes mated to a 5-speed manual; a 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that gets 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearboxes and a 1.5-litre diesel that gets 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes.

This move could be in a bid to keep the Sonet updated, and in the news, in the face of the upcoming Tata Nexon facelift. Hyundai, too, recently launched a Knight Edition of the Venue to keep talk around it alive. That said, the Sonet is due its own facelift that’s expected to launch early next year, and will come with comprehensively updated exterior and interior, but will remain mechanically unchanged.
