Press Release:
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) today released Vehicle Retail Data for June’22.

June’22 Retails

Commenting on how June’22 performed, FADA President, Mr. Vinkesh Gulati said, “Auto Retail for the month of June’22 continued to show its positive run when compared YoY with June’21, a month which continued to face the brunt of covid.

When compared to June’19, a pre-covid month, overall sales were down by -9%. Apart from PV and Tractors which were already above pre-covid level for last few months and grew by 27% and 40%, CV for the first time showed a growth of 4% thus indicating recovery slowly creeping in for this segment.

While 3W narrowed its de-growth and was at down by -6%, it’s the 2W segment which still remains the biggest cause of concern and is not picking as per expectation. The same was down by -16%.

Poor market sentiment especially in rural India, high cost of ownership, inflationary pressure and June generally being a lean month due to rains kept 2W sales at low speed. In the 3W category, a major shift has happened in electric category. Apart from this, permit issues and frequent price increase remained the biggest dampeners.

The PV segment continued to see robust growth. An increase in wholesale clearly shows that semiconductor availability is now getting easier. Waiting period, especially in compact SUV and SUV segment continued to remain high. New vehicle launches are seeing robust booking thus reflecting healthy demand pipeline.

The CV segment showed strength for the first time as it grew by 4% when compared to June’19, a precovid month. Bus segment along with LCVs are showing good traction.”

Near Term Outlook

The Russia – Ukraine crises has increased inflationary pressure world over. RBI Governor during the recent Monetary Policy meeting has also flagged high inflation as a major cause of concern. In the past few months, prices of almost all essential items have moved northwards, thereby putting pressure on the common man’s household budget and thus reducing his disposable income.

Additionally, the high fuel prices have had a spill over effect on transportation and made it expensive. This will have a negative effect on entry level PV as well as 2W segment which are generally dominated by first time buyers.

On the other hand, ease in availability of semi-conductors will see increased supply especially in PV segment and thus reduce waiting period. If Rural India stabilises, Auto retail will enter festive season on a good note.

Recently the government has taken significant measures to ease the inflationary pressure and help the common man by reducing central excise duty on petrol & diesel and changing the duty structure to moderate prices of steel & plastic. Indian Automobile Industry appreciates and thanks the government for these efforts.

Industry also keenly looks forward to similar support on CNG prices which has seen exponential increase in the last 7 months. Support on CNG prices would help the common man, facilitate public transport and will enable a cleaner environment.”

Press Release:
Porsche India recorded a 118 per cent sales growth for the first half of 2022 compared to last year with 378 new car deliveries. Overcoming continual challenges that impact the automotive industry worldwide, Porsche India delivered more cars between January to June this year than the individual full year figures from 2018, 2019 and 2020.

The arrival of Porsche’s all-electric Taycan and a strong desire for SUVs carried the momentum through the first half of the year with 167 Cayenne and 125 Macan accounting for 77 per cent of all sales, followed by the Taycan with 37 units. Porsche’s iconic 911 Coupé recorded 27 units and the family-sized limousine Panamera accounted for 19 sales.

Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director, Porsche India said the figures are an encouraging sign that the industry is recovering with demand for high-end sports cars returning to pre-pandemic levels: “July marks 10 years of Porsche India serving this region and there’s no better way to acknowledge this than with our best ever half year sales performance for the first half of 2022.

“With the continued push towards electrification, we are heartened to see strong demand for the Taycan from day one, making it our third best-seller so far this year. Our customers and stakeholders have been outstanding and continue to be the backbone that lets Porsche India thrive. We strongly believe that success breeds success and building on our 2021 performance which was our best full year since 2014 and our strong 2022 first half, we are delighted to welcome two new retail partners to the Porsche India network which will be announced in the coming months.” Earlier this year, KUN Premium Cars Pvt. Ltd has been appointed as the dealer partner in Chennai and VST Supercars Pvt. Ltd. as the dealer partner in Bengaluru.
