gtlngvyaiwn9iwjohk8z.jpg

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall of three examples of its 2019 GLE300d wagon (MY19) due to potentially faulty side airbags.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the "side airbags on this vehicle may deploy with excessive force and might not meet the requirements of UN-R135" – a safety standard relating to side impacts.

Affected cars were sold between 1 February 2019 and 30 September 2019. Mercedes-Benz Australia is contacting owners to organise a free inspection and repair if necessary.

Polestar 2 recalled over potential power failure issue

Polestar 2 2020 UK.jpg

A recall programme has been launched for the Polestar 2, after several owners filed reports of their vehicles losing power. The issue affects 4,586 vehicles in Europe – of which 360 belong to UK buyers.

The Swedish brand has narrowed down the problem to a bank of faulty inverters, which transform the stored energy in the EV’s battery packs into a voltage suitable to power the electric motors. The defective parts have the potential to cut power to the drivetrain and cause the vehicle to stop running abruptly.

350,000 2013–2017 Ford Explorers Recalled for Suspension Issue

2017-Ford-Explorer-102-1-MS.jpg

Ford has a history with rear suspension toe links, and in the case of the recall announced today for 350,000 2013–2017 Ford Explorers in the U.S., this is the second time that the outboard section of the rear suspension toe link in these Explorers has needed to be replaced. This component of the suspension can corrode and eventually fracture, leading to a driver potentially losing control of the vehicle and crashing.

In addition to the vehicles recalled in the U.S., there are another 25,200 being recalled in Canada. Ford said in a press release that it is aware of 13 accidents and six injuries as a result of the rear suspension toe link failing. Owners should bring their vehicle to a dealership for a “torque inspection of the cross-axis ball joint,” which will be replaced as needed.

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA recalled for eCall programming issue, over the air update available

twkgpmjvx9lcieys6r84.jpg

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for 571 examples of the Model Year 2019 CLA range (C118 generation), due to a programming issue with the eCall emergency call system.

The affected vehicles were sold in Australia between 3 April 2019 and 1 September 2020.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “the eCall system is incorrectly programmed, in the event of an emergency it would not be possible for the vehicle occupants to connect with emergency services, either manually or automatically.”

“As a consequence, emergency vehicles may not be directed to the affected vehicle or may be delayed. This could increase the risk of death if a serious injury has occurred.”

Mercedes recalls E-Class vehicles for seat problems

mercedes-benz-e-class-recall-(2)-250.png

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall of E-Class vehicles because the front passenger seats may be missing the mechanical seat adjustment range limit stops.

This can allow the seats to move outside the range in relation to the airbags and cause an increased risk of injuries to front passengers in these vehicles.

GM Recalls 194,105 Cars, SUVs for Potential Transmission Oil Leak

2019-chevrolet-cruze-gets-cloud-based-infotainment-and-styling-tweaks-news-car-and-driver-phot...jpg

General Motors has recalled 194,105 vehicles in the U.S. built between 2018 and 2020 from across its brands due to missing bolts. The problem could lead to a transmission oil leak, and ultimately the loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash. If there is an ignition source, this leaked oil can also increase the potential for a fire, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The affected vehicles include the following: 2018 Chevrolet Malibu; 2018–2019 Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Cruze; 2018–2020 Chevrolet Equinox and Traverse and GMC Terrain; 2019–2020 Buick Enclave, Buick Encore, Cadillac XT4, Chevrolet Blazer, and GMC Acadia; and 2020 Cadillac XT6.

With 122,980 vehicles being recalled, the Cruze makes up the bulk of the recall. Owners of vehicles on the list should go the NHTSA website or NHTSA's new recall app to see if their vehicle is involved in the recall.

Dealers will inspect the start/stop transmission accumulator—the part that is potentially missing bolts—and replace it if any bolts are missing. The recall is expected to begin on December 14.

50,000 Chevy Bolt EVs Recalled; Owners Told Not to Park in Garages, Near Houses

Chevrolet is recalling more than 50,000 of its Bolt EVs in the U.S. equipped with batteries manufactured by LG Chem in South Korea. There is a risk that these high-voltage batteries, located under the rear passenger seats, could catch fire. The Bolt EV has a 60.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Executive chief engineer Jesse Ortega, in the GM video above, details the problem and explains what owners can do while waiting for a fix.

Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and GM are investigating complaints from owners and have confirmed five instances of fires related to the problem. NHTSA's investigation report indicates that the agency is also investigating 2020 model year Bolt EVs and gives a total of vehicles potentially affected of 77,842. However, Chevrolet said, "The 2020 Bolt EV uses a different battery-cell design than the vehicles affected by this recall."

Ford Recalls Edge, Explorer and Taurus Vehicles

ford-taurus-explorer-edge-recall-250.png

Ford Edge, Explorer and Taurus vehicles may roll away or lose the ability to continue moving forward while driving, and Ford believes the entire problem is caused by vibrations.

Nearly 16,000 model year 2014-2016 Ford Taurus, 2014-2016 Ford Explorer and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles are recalled because the link shaft brackets may fracture due to vibrations of the vehicles.

Ford is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the problem.

FCA Recalls 2014–2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee with EcoDiesel Engine

2019-jeep-grand-cherokee-157-1539709358.jpg

FCA has issued a recall for 28,884 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from model years 2014 to 2019 equipped with the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine. The recall is due to the potential for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler to crack because of "thermal fatigue," which could lead to vaporized coolant entering the intake manifold and potentially resulting in a fire, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Kia Recalls 295,000 Cars in U.S. for Engine-Compartment Fire Risk

Kia Motors America and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have announced the recall of nearly 295,000 vehicles over a problem that could lead to engine-compartment fires. NHTSA's recall report states that owners of potentially affected Kia models should be alert for "engine noise, illumination of check-engine light [or] low-oil light, fuel smell, burning smell, oil leaking, smoke." However, NHTSA said, there has been no manufacturing or design defect identified yet, and Kia is recalling the vehicles as a "preventative measure to mitigate any unreasonable fire risk."

Honda Recalling 1.79 Million Vehicles Worldwide For Safety Issues

Honda Motor Co said on Tuesday it was recalling 1.79 million vehicles worldwide in four separate campaigns, including some linked to reported fires. The recalls cover 1.4 million vehicles in the United States. The Japanese automaker said one recall covers 268,000 2002-2006 model year CR-V vehicles in the United States to replace power window master switches. Honda said there had been no reported injuries, but 16 fires reported related to the issue.

Honda conducted a prior recall of the power window master switches in 2012. The new recall is in response to moisture-related failures of switches repaired under the previous campaign.

GM Recalls 2019–2021 Trucks, SUVs over Front Seatbelt Defect

2021-chevrolet-suburban-008-1609248618.jpg

General Motors has announced a recall for 624,216 trucks and SUVs with split-bench front seats from the 2019 through 2021 model years. According to the report filed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem is improperly installed seatbelt brackets in the center of the front row. It could cause a person sitting in the center of the front row to be incompletely restrained, which could lead to injury in case of hard braking or a crash, NHTSA said.
