April 2021 Retails Vs wholesale Analysis:

  • Honda was worst impacted with its retails falling by over 35% MoM
  • MG motors down by over 33% and Toyota down by over 30% MoM
  • OEMs least impact was Ford with retails sales down by just over 10% MoM
  • All other OEMs down between 20-30% MoM in retail volumes.

Cumulative Inventory figures and trends

  • Overall Inventory swelling to an average of 2.54 Months of close to 75 days for all Dealers across the OEMs.
  • OEMs with lowest inventory are Skoda with 1.9 Months, Ford (2.17 Months) and Tata (2.21 Months)
  • OEMs with highest dealer inventory are Honda with 3.9 Months,Nissan with 3.1 Months followed by MG with 2.9 Months of Stocks

  • Maruti Suzuki still leader with 32% Market share. YoY growth of 140%
  • Hyundai in second spot with 24% market share. YoY growth of 263%
  • Tata motors comes third with stupendous 15% Market share in month of May 2021. YoY growth of 381%
  • Kia which is barely 2 year old OEM has quickly climbed to top with just 3 models claims 11% of Market share and incredible 583% growth YoY.
  • Mahindra bouyed by success of new Thar and with enigmatic Bolero and Scorpio putting in top 5 slot. MnM grows over 113% and claims market share of 9%

  • Overall the market grew by 183% YoY. This was primarily owing to OEMs investment in Online Sales and distribution initiatives.
  • Hatchbacks account for 34%, of total car sales and this is dominated by Maruti Suzuki. Hatch back segment grew by 180% YoY however was below the average growth in segments.
  • Compact SUVs or Sub 4m SUVs is next big segment and has grown the most. Showing Stupendous growth by over 535% YoY. It also manage to increase its Market share by close to 15%
  • SUV segment also seeing great traction and registering 183% YoY growth.
  • CSUV and SUV segment combined make upto 45% market share. Clearly it indicates that Indian car buyer has a strong preference for SUV body shape.
  • Compact Sedans also registering an impressive above average growth of 197% accounting for increased market share at shade over 8%
  • Sedans segment registering growth of 178% but has small market share of 3.45%
  • MUV growing at a meager 17% way below the segment average of 183% and loosing its share by over 10% YoY. From 18% in May'20 its now under 8% in May'21. This is the segment to loose max market share
  • Van segment de grows by 32% only segment to de grow. Also to note that Only Eeco from Suzuki forms this segment. There is no other player in the market.

July 2021 Car Sales:

  • Suzuki Market share comes down to 45% with most loss in Market share by 4%. Hyundai too loosing Market share by 3%
  • Tata motors on a dream run with 30K+ and double digit MS at 10.26% volumes Most in over a decade and gaining Market share by 2.66%. Cementing its position as No 3 OEM on country
  • Mahindra at No 4 with impressive 20K+ units
  • Indian OEMs now account for close to 20% market share
  • Nissan does a humongous 444% increase on YoY volumes. Magnite seems the key here
  • Skoda too doing impressive 234% YoY growth in volumes and all due to the newly launched Kushaq.
  • Ford some how misses the party with a 20% YoY degrowth. This is surprising when industry average is around 49% growth, Ford is only OEM to show a degrowth that too in double digits.
