Here in Chennai its gaining momentum , rallies and fastings are taking place. Volunteers roam around the beaches shouting slogans and holding placards supporting Anna Hazare.
@ Jalex I am a noob when it comes to politics , i think you will be the right person to explain more clearly about this to me.
Okay the main differences between the Jan Lokpal Bill and the Government proposed Bill are as follows:
Draft Lokpal Bill 2010
1: Lokpal will have no power to initiate suo moto action or receive complaints of corruption from the general public. It can only probe complaints forwarded by LS Speaker or RS Chairman.
2: Lokpal will only be an Advisory Body. Its part is only limited to forwarding its report to the "Competent Authority"
3: Lokpal will not have any police powers. It can not register FIRs or proceed with criminal investigations.
4: CBI and Lokpal will have no connection with each other.
5: Punishment for corruption will be minimum 6 months and maximum up-to 7 years.
Jan Lokpal Bill
1: Lokpal will have powers to initiate suo moto action or receive complaints of corruption from the general public.
2: Lokpal will be much more than an Advisory Body. It should be granted powers to initiate Prosecution against anyone found guilty.
3: Lokpal will have police powers. To say that it will be able to register FIRs.
4: Lokpal and anti corruption wing of CBI will be one Independent body.
5: The punishment should be minimum 5 years and maximum up-to life imprisonment.
6: Lokpal will not be a monopoly for particular area.
And in addition the Government is also not willing to bring the P.M and his office as well as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India and his office under the Lokpal. They say it will hamper the free and smooth functioning of both the concerned offices. I along with many others can't see what is the problem even if someone goes ahead and files a false complaint against the P.M or C.J of the Supreme Court. This can be done with you,me or any other average person and like us there is provision to punish someone if he lodges a false complaint against someone for that matter in this case as well.
What I understand is that around 25-30 people, ruling class and politicians alone have managed to stow away money in Swiss banks with the current set of anti-corruption laws we have, The present laws have plenty of shortcomings and it helps politicians and bureaucrats to get away with whatever crime they do. The accounts of a single person in the said Swiss Bank amount to around 3,00,000 crores of rupees.
Kerala is most Politically pervert state in India. i Havent even seen anybody even knowing Annaji.
When i tried to explain about this movement to couple of local guys they said, "Ohh trying to be another Mahatma Gandhi" . I would have slapped all those guys then and there but my etiquette's stopped me.
Annaji ki jay!!!!!!!!
everybody cursed government, cursed the law, cursed curruption but nobody dared to stand against it.
Now god listened to some innocents persons prayers and gave Annaji to India.
Annaji ki Jay.
Right said Jayadev,
I was thrashed around on Facebook by many fellow Men in Black as they have no idea about things other than what they read in the biased Malayalam Dailies here. I have many people who dislike me at the Bar now cause of this. These people are toads in broken wells with no idea of what's going on in the outside world. And it was easy for me to explain things to those with very basic or little education, They understand things better and they whole heartedly supported the movement. And I have to say this, People in Kerala are the worst corruption supporters in the whole of India, It just so happens that things dont come out in statistics, Cause we down here are educated and tuned for corruption.
since corruption in kerala involves all section of the society ( we have incorporated the idea of socialism in corruption too ) no one is bothered about the anti corruption movement else where.we will wait and see who wins this fight and side with the winner, thats the mallu way. since the working class is also organised they fleece any body who needs their work. we have the head load workers who charge exorbitant prices for unloading any thing brought to your house. even if you unload the objects you have to pay them its called " nokku coolie " thats coolie for looking on.in the rto office we only have to pay the agent the booty is divided among the staff right from rto to peon.it the power supply goes off we have bring the lineman in our own vehicle to fix it plus the usual grease.so all are happy in gods own country
Exactly, What I too would say!
And in addition, I had a lot of Mallu friends sending me messages on Facebook to stop supporting Hazare and the anti-corruption movement and not to speak of all the bad things that happen in Kerala. They told me that I am making my state and myself look bad in front of the whole country. Well I think, whats more important than looking good is actually being good and exposing and being a whistle blower on things can make a change.
Also many have asked me that the Jan Lokpal wont end corruption, Might be true, But for sure it will bring a great decrease in corruption and so thats still great. And again the Indian Penal Code cannot guarantee or assure that crimes wont happen ever, So I ask the same people. "Would you say, Lets withdraw the Indian Penal Code as well?" to which they have no answer.
I am posting some files here about the Jan Lokpal bill and the Government Lokpal Bill. Please do take a look at it and I request everyone here to get involved in whatever small way you can. Be it from home on the net or on the streets and at dharnas and meetings.
India is not just our Country, It is our Home.
P.S:The Govt. has put a condition to get 25 crore people to support Jan LokPal. To give your support call 02261550789 (as given by Kiran Bedi) from your mobile no. Your call will be disconnected after 1 ring and your number registered automatically. You will get an SMS confirming this. Do it and pass it onto all your friends to make India corruption free. It is now or never.
