Took it to Decathlon to get a bike as no other car at home could hold 3 on board with a cycle and a bass tube [evil]

Time of DIYs:

Changed oil as we did not have time to go to ASC.

Shell Helix HX5 15W40. Bought 5+1 L. We needed 5.3 L. Total cost 1835 INR. Got 100 or 135 off. Forgot how much exactly.

Got Purolator air filter. 285 bucks.

2015-10-23 17-09-41.JPG

And some Karo Oil filter. Never heard before. Not even in Google. Some Made in Delhi brand. Cost 195 INR.

Had to remove front wheel to get access to the drain bolt.

2015-10-23 18-38-25.JPG

Car was in slope and had to use 2 jacks to level the car.

i20 filter does not have a metal case, just the paper element. More disposable friendly.

Decided to upgrade lights too. Stock one was not that great. Bought Bosche Beamer White 100/90 W seeing the 4200k rating, but to our horror, it turned out to be pale blue/violet and visibility was bad despite great throw and intensity. 500 INR a pair.

2015-07-16 13-09-44.jpg

I20 headlamps got plastic caps, which does not permit adding a wiring kit. Drilled the caps, cut the wiring kit and drew threw the cap and rewired. Tadaaa. Last time in an i10 made square hole in cap to allow in the holder, which turned out to be disaster, with headlight building mist even with slightest drizzle.

The other side with plug.

Relay mounted over struts.

Comparison with Phillips Rally 100/90. Whiter one is Bosch. We chose Rally over Bosch. Now the visibility is great.

Added some LEDs too. Bought a pair of 5 LED 5050 SMD T10 lights. Was some 200 a pair (same stuff even cheaper in ebay).

Disaster strikes!!! Turbo starts developing oil leak. Oil level reducing drastically. 75k for new turbo. Second option is overhaul, which would be around 15k with no guarantee.

that's bad from where will you repair the turbo?
Issue was diagnosed by our regular mech, who runs a MASS turned multibrand workshop. He recommended taking to HASS. They quoted 75k without labor. Got back to him and he called someone and told it's repairable to some extent and turbo internals cost some 8-10k and can be done by the guy he called, with whom he repaired a Swift turbo previously.

There are also some reputed turbo mechs in Kochi and Kollam. They do onsite collection and reinstall from Trivandrum. Gotta catch hold of some of these guys.

After some googling, found Paramount Autozone, who does authorized service for TEL and Borg Warner turbos. There was another guy doing KKK turbos.

Waiting for reply from our mech and then decide where to get it repaired.

As of now, car is running fine and turbo working perfectly, only issue being oil leaking from it.

I agree about the i20 Sq being good, it made me realize my aftermarket system was pathetic & noisy, only it was loud. But mine is due for a high end Sq install.

Now is it common for the turbo to fail at around 90000kms??

I read about a Verna turbo failing at 80000 kms. And 75000 ouch!! Its worrying how suddenly things can go bad. That could be an average 6 months emi of the car!

Car has been serviced in the interim, where all issues were fixed by the FNG. Now running on Mobil 1. Lost bill, could not update the details. Front and rear brake pads changed. Turbo fixed. Timing belt pulley/bearing changed as it was making too much noise. It's pretty cheap at FNG compared to Hyundai.

You had mentioned a MASS turned multi brand workshop ,which is that ,and what's the person's name ?
You can give the car for works at Hilton Hyundai .
Srihari Automobiles at Pippinmoodu.

Got an even better guy. An ex Hilton Hyundai guy. His name is Shaji. He runs a garage near Sreevaraham electricity board, got no boards or name for garage. Runs inside an old steel pipe dealer yard. He is the guy who fixed the turbo.

Hilton Hyundai, no way ;) Already lost their dealership with Hyundai because of their terrible service. Now, being unauthorized, we can't complain with Hyundai if they screw up anything.

Though their dealership is closed, and their authority to do under warranty job is only lost Mr.Deville.
They still do the job.
In my opinion better than Popular Hyundai .
I still give my swift as well as Verna there for unscheduled works.
They do it superbly and is not a pocket ripper.
