From the month of March, the war of second spot in Domestic two wheeler market begun between Bajaj and Honda. Honda displaced Bajaj in the month of March and Bajaj displaced Honda in the month of April. For the month of May again Honda displaced Bajaj from the second spot. The story remained the same in the month of June too. Honda managed to post healthy lead on Bajaj Auto in June 2012. HMSI managed to dispatch 2,16,208 units of two wheelers compared to Bajaj Auto’s 2,11,510 units which resulted in a lead of 4,698 units.

HMSI sold 2,16,208 units of two wheeler in the June 2012 up by 57.07% compared to 1,37,655 units of two wheeler in the month of June 2011. HMSI sold 1,20,893 units of scooters in the June 2012 up by 58.42% compared to 76,310 units in the month of June 2011. The company sold 95,315 units of motorcycle in the June 2012 up by 55.38% compared to 61,345 units of motorcycle in the June 2011. Both motorcycle and scooter has posted growth in the same trajectory. HMSI has benefited from the launch of Dream Yuga and it will continue to bring in more sales as other states are covered.

Bajaj Auto sold 2,11,510 units of motorcycle in the June 2012 up by 1.25% compared to 2,08,883 units of motorcycle in June 2011. This is the first month where Bajaj Auto has posted positive growth in domestic market after few sluggish months. The incremental units in the domestic market has came from newly launched Pulsar 200NS and Discover 125ST. Bajaj Auto manage to sell 2,200 units of Pulsar 200NS and 2,300 units of Discover 125ST. These sales figures are only for the state of Maharashtra. Bajaj Auto is planning to sell 5,000 units of Pulsar 200NS and 10,000 units of Discover 125 ST in the month of July and then will gradually increase this number to nearby 35,000 units of combined sales by September.

Bajaj Vs Honda in 2012

In the month of May 2012 HMSI sold 2,12,457 units in domestic market compared to 2,06,751 units of Bajaj Auto. HMSI has lead of 10,404 units over Bajaj Auto for the month of May and June 2012. However for April-June 2012 quarter there is a negligible difference between Bajaj Auto and HMSI as Bajaj Auto posted a huge lead in the month of April 2012. It seems that Bajaj Auto will lead in the month of July on the back of new launches and then the story will continue as the festive season will come. However, let’s see if HMSI manage to lead in July also.

Let the strongest win

Here i try to make story little more clear as per my knowledge.

Honda is ruling in 100 cc gearless scooter segment(second by TVS. Suzuki is third). Where Bajaj had no options now and the this segment growing faster.

In 100-125 cc bike segment it is Bajaj after Hero.Where honda is not clicked well except the new offering Dream yuga( which is also not at all new shine's Body+ Twisters engine)
Again in 150 segment, it is Honda, because people madly going behind the old unicorn(not Dazzler). Where Bajaj's pulsar 150, Discover 150 boxer 150 are not selling much.

in 180-200-220 segment, it is only Bajaj, and Honda has no options.
in 250, Its only Honda.Bajaj had no options and Kawasaki ninja had huge price compared to CBR 250

No doubt, the Activa thing is the largest selling gearless scooter as well as the largest selling Honda here in India.

+100,you are right..

Don't know about south but here in north,Pulsar 150 is the best selling 150cc bike and that also by a very very wide margin. There are more than twice the Pulsars than you can spot all other competitors summed up together.

in 180-200-220 segment, it is only Bajaj, and Honda has no options.
in 250, Its only Honda.Bajaj had no options and Kawasaki ninja had huge price compared to CBR 250
Again +100.

Re: Honda versus Bajaj – The Big Battle

The second largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, Bajaj Auto has already a significant overseas market. But now it has been reported in The Business Line that Bajaj Auto is now working on a global alliance with Austria's KTM and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Japan, for selling motorcycles in the overseas markets, and is looking to achieve 50 per cent of its total sales through exports by 2016.
It was mentioned that Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd was quoted as saying that the company has a target of doubling both sales and turnover by 2016 to touch 10 million units in annual sales. He said ``I estimate 50 per cent or more to come from exports. We are working on global motorcycles alliance with KTM and Kawasaki Heavy Industries to partner them in markets where we are not present like Brazil, Vietnam and Malaysia. It is not easy to do this, ourselves.’’

The reports stated that the company’s current sales are at around 4.5 million units a year and the turnover at Rs 20,000 crore. Bajaj said “Our goal is double sales, revenue, exports, and more than double the bottom line. This three legged stool – sharp brand focus, global presence and variable cost – has served us well in the first phase of our strategy from 2009-2012.” The company had worked on a cost structure that was relatively immune to the upheavals in the market place. “This is because we have invested more efforts in R&D and marketing than on production,” Bajaj said, adding that their fixed cost as less than 10 per cent of sales, according to the report.

Re: Honda versus Bajaj – The Big Battle

Bajaj Auto is close to launching a third 100 cc bike - in addition to the Discover and Platina - to take on Hero MotoCorp's bread and butter products, the Splendor and the Passion, as well as Honda's new model at the entry level, the 110 cc Dream Yuga. Codenamed D-104, the bike is slated for launch in October-November and is expected to be aggressively priced at around Rs 40,000, a tad lower than its 100 cc and 110 cc rivals.

People close to the development say the new product's unique selling proposition will be latest technology at an affordable price. They add that the soon-to-be-launched model will have features that are not usually found in the value segment, like perhaps an electric start, a digital instrument cluster, front and rear disc brakes and LED lights. Bajaj Auto will also do away with steel and instead using fibre and plastic to make the two-wheeler lighter, and thereby more fuel-efficient and cost-competitive.
The value segment - which some manufacturers call the 'commuter premium' segment - has always been Bajaj Auto's bugbear. It has been unable to make inroads into this turf on which Hero MotoCorp accounts for three out of every four bikes sold. Bajaj has in the past tried to crack this market with models like the Caliber and the Wind but had little success.

What the new bike will be christened is not known. Those aware of the plans say the company is contemplating three options. The least likely is to opt for a bottom-up strategy and launch a deluxe version of the Platina. The second option would be to introduce a new brand with differentiated features. But a more likely alternative would be to go top-down, which means extending either the Pulsar or creating having another Discover in the 100 cc segment. But taking the Pulsar, which has a sporty and macho image, down to the value-segment could dilute its proposition, said an analyst on the condition of anonymity who reckons a Discover variant may be on the cards.

Bajaj Auto is a leader in the sports segment with the Pulsar (in the above 60,000 price range), and in the 50,000-60,000 band with the Discover. But it hasn't been able to funnel those gains towards the largest portion of the pie. Rajiv Bajaj may be hoping that the new 100 cc model will change the game.

Close on the heels of violence at Maruti Suzuki's plant last month, tension is brewing at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India's Manesar facility following suspension of two workers.

HMSI Employees Union alleged that two workers -- Jaibir Yadav, an executive member of the union and Naresh Yadav -- were suspended by the management on "flimsy grounds".

"We are demanding reinstatement of two of our colleagues, who have been given suspension letters by the management today for an argument that took place last week," HMSI Employees Union General Secretary Harjit Grover told PTI.

He said the argument was over sanctioning of leave. Comments from HMSI management could not be obtained immediately.

Production at the plant, which has an annual capacity of 16 lakh units, is not affected yet as the workers have not gone on strike.

"We have not yet decided to go on strike as we have been assured of an amicable resolution by the officials of the state labour department," Grover said.

The union will decide on its future course of action, only if nothing materialises in the next two-three days, he added.

Police are also keeping a vigil on the development. "We are keeping a close watch," SHO Manesar Om Prakash Bishnoi said, adding already some police personnel have been deployed around the HMSI plant.

In 2005, HMSI had witnessed one of the most violent instances of industrial unrest when over 150 people were seriously injured in clash between the police and agitating workers.

Two wheeler manufacturer Honda Motors and Scooters India (HMSI) will restrucutre its sub-regional sales and service network to penetrate into the smaller cities of India, said a senior official of the company.

HMSI expects its recent launch, the 110 cc bike 'Dream Yug' to cater to the customers in smaller cities, which will raise the share of motor cycles to close to 50% in its domestic sales. "India is a big country. The regions here are even bigger than countries like Indonesia.

To enable our customers get a better sales and service network, we will create about 20 zonal offices below the five regional offices," HMSI president, Keita Muramatsu told media persons in Ahmedabad during the inauguration of first zonal office at Ahmedabad.

Bhopal and Chennai will be the next to have zonal offices. HMSI has regional offices at Pune, Manesar, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Lucknow. All the zonal centres will house a training centre to upgrade the skills of technicians of it dealers.

The company plans to increase its sales and service network from about 1,500 now to close to 2,000 by the end of the current fiscal. Its upcoming facility at Narsapur in Kolar district, near Bengaluru is expected to start functioning in 2013, raising company's installed capacity to 40 lakh units per annum.

HMSI started its India operations about a decade ago and has invested Rs 3,500 crore cumulatively. It plans to invest additional Rs 1,500 crore in the Karnataka facility as well as its existing facilities at Manesar. HMSI is banking on recently launched Dream Yug to reach out customers in smaller cities and in rural areas.

It will also help its bike sales to match up to the scooters sales. The company expects sales of 27 lakh units in the current fiscal, of which about 14 lakh will be scooters. It sold 21 lakh vehicles in the previous fiscal of which 12.5 lakh were scooters.

Honda Activa is its flagship brand with sales of about 10 lakh units in FY 2011. The sales of Activa is likely to rise to 11 lakh in FY 2012. The two wheeler maker is also redesigning and re-engineering the auto parts to compensate for the increase in the raw material price.

Re: Honda versus Bajaj – The Big Battle

The fight between these two companies will go on for quite a while. Unlike Bajaj's Discover 110 DTSi and Pulsar 150 DTSi and now Pulsar 200NS, HMSI doesn't have mass selling products in the bike market. HMSI needs to tap that. Shine has given them hope. Now have Dream Yuga. Let's see how it fairs. With Bajaj having a considerable grip over bike segments, it needs to show it's presence in the scooter market, where HMSI excels.
Since I was a kid, I never liked Bajaj (apart from the "Hamara Bajaj" ad) [lol]. I liked LML Vespa 150NV. I liked Unicorn over Pulsar, but my perception towards Bajaj changed after i saw 200NS. I would love to see Indian Brands topping the charts, especially Bajaj, but it's the Honda's engineering prowess that make me vote for the Japanese giant.

Re: Honda versus Bajaj – The Big Battle

Bajaj vs Honda: Honda post huge lead in the July 2012

The second position of Bajaj Auto in the domestic market is now taken by HMSI. For the period of April to June 2012 HMSI sold few thousands units more compared to Bajaj Auto. However, in the month of July HMSI sold nearly 30,000 units more than Bajaj Auto in the domestic market. HMSI sold nearly 2,30,000 units of the two wheeler compared to Bajaj Auto’s 2,00,000 units of motorcycle in the domestic market.

HMSI sold 2,39,094 units of two wheeler in the month of July 2012 up by 56.90% compared to 1,52,382 units of two wheeler in the month of July 2011. HMSI sold 1,29,601 units of scooters in the July 2012 up by 41.42% compared to 91,642 units in the month of July 2011. The company sold 1,09,493 units of motorcycle in the July 2012 up by 80.27% compared to 60,740 units of motorcycle in the July 2011. This is the first month where HMSI motorcycle sales growth has outpaced scooter sales growth. It seems that Dream Yuga is really doing wonder for HMSI.

Bajaj Auto sold around 2,00,000 units of motorcycle in the July 2012 in the domestic market. The company saw the flat growth in the domestic market due to sluggishness in the economy. The plus sign for Bajaj Auto remains the response to its newly launched Pulsar and Discover. New Pulsar 200NS managed to sell around 5,600 units while the new Discover 125ST sold 14,400 units in the month of July. The company aim to sell 10,000 units of Pulsar 200NS and 25,000 units of Discover by September. The response to new Pulsar is tremendous considering the sluggishness in the premium segment.

Bajaj Vs Honda in 2012

HMSI sold 8,49,767 units during March to July 2012 compared to 8,19,024 units of Bajaj Auto for the same period. The launch of mass motorcycle Dream Yuga is helping HMSI to gain market share in the domestic motorcycle segment. HMSI has now started gaining motorcycle market share at the cost Hero Moto corp which is a clear signal that HMSI will leave no stone unturned to secure its first position in India by 2020. Bajaj Auto is readying itself to gain market share in 100cc motorcycle segment. 100cc motorcycle segment is the only key for Bajaj Auto to secure second position in the domestic market. It is to be noted that 100cc segment accounts almost 65% of the total motorcycle sold in the country. Bajaj Auto may launch the new Boxer 100cc motorcycle in the upcoming days. Let’s see how Bajaj Auto will regain its second position in upcoming months.
