re: Honda Brio Sedan Speculations? Its Honda Amaze

New Honda Brio sedan specs revealed

Honda's four-door version of the Brio will have a longer body than today's five-door variant to ensure optimum levels of rear occupant comfort.
At a media briefing yesterday in Thailand, Honda engineers said the Brio saloon will have a 3,990mm overall length and 2,407mm wheelbase, longer than the hatchback by 380mm and 62mm accordingly. The 1,680mm width and 1,485mm height are identical.

The additional length was made to accommodate larger, cushier rear seats and a boot measuring 420 litres. As the saloon is 26kg heavier than the hatchback, changes to the suspension had to be made including new coil springs.

The three-box Brio gets the same 90hp 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and CVT automatic transmission, good for a 20.4kpl average fuel economy.

The new Brio derivative will make its world debut in Thailand next month.

Honda announces the name of All-New Entry Sedan Model as "AMAZE"

"AMAZE" will be Honda’s first Diesel car in India
BANGKOK, Thailand, November 9, 2012 – Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today unveiled the name of an all-new entry sedan type model that utilizes the platform of Brio, Honda’s strategic model for Asia. The New Entry Sedan will be called the “AMAZE,” and will be launched in Thailand and India.

The details of the model will be announced later this month (November 23, 2012) in Thailand, and next financial year 2013 – 14 in India. Honda plans to introduce this model to accommodate the diversifying needs of customers in automobile markets in Asia where competition is intensifying.

The model will be equipped with a gasoline engine in Thailand. In India, the Honda Amaze will be available with a petrol engine and a newly-developed diesel engine and will be positioned in the entry level sedan segment for the Indian market. These models will be introduced to the market at affordable prices realized by increasing cost competitiveness through local sourcing and production.

The name “Amaze” is intrinsically linked to the Product Development Concept of this new model after extensive study of the diverse needs of customers. Every aspect of the new entry sedan seeks to amaze the customer by offering divergent and desirable values to expand customer delight beyond expectations.

The contemporary style of “Amaze” will entice customers with its amazingly spacious interior yet compact exteriors, which was designed while further advancing the Honda M/M (man maximum, machine minimum) concept*1. The car offers amazing power delivery yet with class leading fuel efficiency, while sustaining core Honda values to appeal to the growing base of middle class customers aspiring to own a Honda Sedan.

Honda developed Brio exclusively for Asian markets, and introduced it in Thailand and India in 2011, and in Indonesia in 2012, offering a compact car designed for the entry-car market which is growing in Asia. The all-new Honda Amaze will represent yet another model that realizes styling design that draws attention, as well as a spacious cabin within a compact body size that makes this vehicle easy to use even in urban areas.

Honda AMAZE first drive will it give tough fight to dezire ?

Here are our first impressions of Honda's much-awaited, Brio-based Amaze. It is a sub-four-metre saloon, much like the Maruti Swift Dzire, which Honda benchmarked extensively when engineering this car. What's also important is the engine under the bonnet of this car. It will be Honda's first diesel engine in India, and though Honda hasn't revealed the 1.5-litre i-DTEC motor's power or fuel-efficiency figures, expect around 80bhp and about 24kpl. The engine is a scaled-down version of the 1.6-litre diesel that Honda sells in Europe, so this four-cylinder unit has a twin-cam, 16-valve head.

Driving it around the Motegi test track in Japan, the motor impresses with its refinement. Even better, though, is its responsiveness. It pulls well from as low as 1000rpm, and there's a gentle surge at 1500rpm when the turbo comes on full song. This engine does its best work below 3000rpm, which is fine – it promises to be easy to drive in the city traffic. Also cementing its city-friendliness are the gearshift and clutch action, both of which are smooth and light. Driving on Motegi's smooth surface, it's quite impossible to judge the ride, but the steering does have more weight than the Brio's and this is a good thing.

Honda has been quiet for a while but the Japanese giant is far from sleeping. 2013 promises to be a milestone year for the brand in India and the story begins with this, the Honda Amaze. The Amaze is popularly being called the Brio sedan and that is what it is.

Honda have extended the wheelbase of the Brio platform, reworked the three-box body past the B-pillar to integrate the boot as cohesively as possible, adding minor design updates to the front fender and a flat rear fender that brings the car smoothly under the four-metre mark. The underpinnings are more or less the same as the Brio - McPherson struts up front and the torsion beam set up at the back. The wheels are also the same size as the Brio.

More Brio cues lie on the interior and that's a good thing. The Amaze features the same uncluttered, functional, good quality dash layout and Honda have used the extended wheelbase to create a spacious cabin, keeping the rear passengers comfortable.

The important engine is the all-new 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel (and the 1.2-litre petrol from the Brio, will be the other engine on offer of course). This engine will debut on the Amaze but will power many more Honda cars in India before 2013 is out. No official figures have been announced yet but this feels like a 100PS/200Nm diesel.

In driving, it is quiet but not utterly silent at idle, but refinement improves once you are on the move. Power is effortless and this will be a good car to drive. The handling too is clean and sharp but you cannot call it sporty because Honda has chosen to spring this car for a plush ride quality which means a little body roll. But on the tarmac we were given the car on, the ride felt promising. The Amaze has all the makings of a great city sedan. Both the petrol and diesel models will be offered in three variants each. We expect Honda to price the car competitively.

Honda will officially enter the entry-sedan market with the Amaze early next year and we will be able to show you more of the car here on November 23. Or for a fully detailed first drive, check out the new issue of OVERDRIVE, on stands November 23, 2012.

Another review from "the hindu".

Business Line : Companies News : Honda Amaze will focus on space, diesel efficiency

The rear, of course gets the addition of a boot. Unlike the Suzuki Swift DZire, the Amaze manages to carry-off the addition of the boot with much more panache.
The front seats have been carried forward from the Brio hatch, as are a number of other parts in the cabin. Very much like the Brio, the Amaze also manages to provide loads of space inside the cabin. But the Amaze manages to take it one step further and leverages an amazing amount of legroom and knee-room for the rear seat occupants. The rear bench is also fairly comfortable despite a compact backrest.
It will be one of the most interesting cars to come out next year along with Ford Ecosport.

Hi Raja

couldnt agree with you more

When everybody was trying to write off HONDA from our Indian market just due to lack of diesel mills,,, Now beware

The HONDAs have tasted success already in India when its CITY was the uncrowned KING of cars for 10+ years

Maruti suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, M&M - Beware Now HONDA is back on the India scene and How?? [:)]

Amaze will still go the cost cutting route and will have integrated headrest for driver and most probably lack Climate control .Comparing with the Dzire, Amaze will have increase boot space, slightly less width for 3 people at back( 1680mm v/s 1695mm ) and still may be priced Rs 20,000 to 30,000 more than the Dzire. Honda's Diesel is still in uncharted territory. Swift Dzire wins and I think will still remain the best selling entry level sedan. However Amaze will eat sales of Toyota Etios and Tata Manza. Both should be Really Worried [surprise]
