Which route are you planning to take Mukesh?

Plan so that you reach Kanyakumari for sunset , watch sunrise the next morning , do all local sight seeing and start from there by noon.

Thought to go via Hosur, via NH7.

Also planning to drive to a few famous temples in Chennai as well, esp Madurai.

Yes you can cover Madurai , also if you haven't seen Rameshwaram before you can try to include that as well.

I will try to give my clear route and suggestions tonight or tomorrow morning , will have to sit with my dad and a map.

Re: Heading to Kanyakumari- Suggestion to places enroute???

If you are driving straight Bangalore to Kanyakumari then this route is best and can save time a lot:
Hosur-K-giri-Salem-Namakkal-Karur-Dindigal-Madurai-Tirunelveli-Kanyakumari
If you have planned already don't take this option
This route is full 4 lane road so no time constraints;
On first day you can drive till Madurai see Meenakshi temple and some places.
Second day you can go to Triunelveli and Kanyakumari(Don't miss Sun rise)
Third you can travel to Rameshwaram, its roughly 350 kms from kanyakumari
follwing you can see Rameshwaram,Danushkodi and on then you can plan if you visit other places.
Kanyakumari has lots of good places to see especially the Padmanabhapuram Palace is splendid!

Kanyakumari is a nice tourist destination and the fun adds up when travelling in own car. Do make sure to visit wax museum if possible.

Mukesh if possible stick to Vishwas's suggestion , its good. Though travelling is high you will cover maximum places. Since your going by your Scorpio travelling wont be tiresome. Most of the roads are in good condition , you can cover 400-500kms a day easily.

Atleast 800 kms per day i would like to drive:biggrin:

Guys any specific good hotels for food while at Madurai, Rameshwaram,Kanyakumari would be highly appreciated.

Apart from Saravana Bhavan, which hotels are good?

Are you a veggie?

Food won't be a problem in all the above places , you will find ample restaurants.

For staying in Kanyakumari and Rameshwaram you will have to adjust with decent rooms , they don't have 3 star or 5 star hotels. For Kanyakumari i would suggest sunview , parking is a bit tight here! And in Rameshwaram i will suggest Hotel Vinayaga has got good food and also ample parking space.

You will go through Pamban bridge to reach Rameshwaram , one of the tallest and longest bridges in India. Just stop by for few minutes to take breathtaking pictures and enjoy the strong breeze!

Nope i am Non Vegetarian, my bro is veggie.

But no Non Veg hotels till we complete all the temples.

Till then veggie.

It would be good if its a combination of both.

Those points added to my list, will surely visit it.

Now i am prioritizing on which place to be visited all the way, i usually try to do maximum places all the way.

Mukesh,

Due to Sabarimalai season, I think most of the temple will be more populated than normal days.

You can also refer my Trip,
Vellore - Trichy - Madurai - Trichy - Vellore

Don't miss "Jikirthanda" in madurai, you can never get that taste anywhere in India[;)].

Road conditions are good on those areas except few patches due to rain.

hmm... are you prepared the plan? let us know once prepared.

Refer List of Hotels in Madurai - www.madurai.com, i got this before my madurai trip

Hotels for food will not be a problem in southern Tamilnadu, you can easily get delicious food every where (Note: you only need to remove your plantain leaf after you finished your food)

Mukesh,if you are staying in Kanyakumari you can try hotel TRI-SEA, its just oppsite to the light house and police gorunds in Bus stand road its very good if not best. You can get best view of the sea and lighthouse.

In Rameshwaram its better to go for Hotel TamilNadu which is just behind the Rameshwaram temple and is undertaken by TN govt. It has separate rooms,a nice garden and you can park your car in front of your room only, they give you morning breakfast a nice view of the sea and all.

You need atleast two days to see the places around Kanyakumari, some waterfalls, bird santuries and all.

Atleast 800 kms per day i would like to drive
[surprise] then you would be only driving a? stop at places and ask the local people about the visiting places they will tell you a lot.
