Re: Harley Davidson Launched in India

Harley Davidson has launched the ‘Fat Bob’ in India, priced at Rs.12.80 Lakh (Ex. Showroom, Delhi).

Harley- Davidson FAT BOB® will be available with Air cooled, Twin Cam 96™ engine delivering 126 N-m @ 3500 rpm of peak torque. The super - efficient 1585 cc engine is mated to a Six-Speed Cruise Drive®. The Six-Speed Cruise Drive® transmission provides smooth, quiet shifting and reduces engine speed on the highway, so one gets better match between engine turnover and road speed.

Aggressive Front End: With it wide stance and fat styling, the FAT BOB® comes on like a back-alley brawler: bib, bold and dripping with attitude. Muscled up forks, huge headlamp and 130/90B16 front wheel wrapped in a tire give it a menacing, all – business stance and powerful performance.

Dual Front Chrome Headlamps: The FAT BOB® model features a distinctive cast chrome double headlamp bucket that blasts open the night so one can see everything in the path. And with double the chrome coverage of a single bucket, one is bound to turn twice as many on the road.

2-1-2 Exhaust: A perfect example of pure Harley-Davidson style and smart engineering, the ‘Tommy Gun’ 2-1-2 exhaust increases exhaust flow to provide heart stopping performance, signature Harley-Davidson rumble and big style.

Chrome Covered Rear Shocks Lowered and drenched in genuine Harley-Davidson chrome, the rear suspension on the FAT BOB® motorcycle features high-performance coil-over rear shocks that provide a smooth ride and help strike the bike’s eye-catching balance of chrome.

Fuel Tank Medallions: The FAT BOB® model features the Harley-Davidson Bar and Shield proudly displayed on the tank which has a capacity of 18.8L.

Anti-Lock Breaking System (ABS): A sophisticated, factory-installed ABS gives ‘stopping power’ a double meaning. Its components are hidden within the wheel hub, so one gets impressed with clean, streamlined design.

Seat Engineering and Design: The seat is home for Harley-Davidson motorcycles riders. They want a seat that has unique style without sacrificing comfort. Because of that, Harley-Davidson invests a lot of time in researching, designing and testing seats so that every bike has the right saddle.

Adjustable Suspension: Preload is easily adjusted with a spanner wrench to make suspension suit everyone’s riding style. The slammed low rear suspension gives more laid-back riding position and style. Low- profile, kicked back for profiling down the road and hugging corners.

Dual Disk Front Brakes: High performance, sleek design, the dual brakes feature 4-piston fixed calipers out front grabbing on floating rotors for superior stopping power.

Harley Davidson eyes smaller Indian towns to expand footprint

US-based iconic cult bike maker Harley Davidson is targeting smaller towns in India as it looks to enhance presence in the country.
The company, which launched its 'Fat Bob' model in India priced at Rs 12.8 lakh, also said it will consider increasing the number of models assembled in India to offer its products at "affordable rate" for the customers here.

"We are looking to expand our dealer network. Currently, we have nine showrooms and by the end of the year we will have our tenth and next year we will add three more in Jaipur, Indore and Pune," Harley Davidson India Managing Director Anoop Prakash told reporters here.

He said the company has taken a conscious decision to spread presence in the tier II towns as there is a latent demand for Harley Davidson bikes.

"We are getting a good pull in smaller towns. There are a lot of people who have the same key attributes as we have, in wanting personal freedom. The kind of enthusiasm we had received in a place like Kochi was the same as in any metro," Prakash said.

There was a tremendous response when the company held the Harley Rock Riders concert in places like Shillong and Guwahati, he added.

Sounding bullish on the Indian market, he said the company will clock over 2,000 units by the end of 2012 as cumulative sales since it started selling its bikes in India in July 2010.

When asked if Harley Davidson will assemble more models in India to bring down the price, he said: "Although there is no immediate plan for adding to our CKD line up, we will keep the option open for future in order to make our products affordable to customers."

The company will continue to adopt and invest in strategies that make its "products and ownership experience accessible to more enthusiasts and customers in India," Prakash said.

The latest model Fat Bob, which is powered by a 1,600 cc engine, is the sixth model assembled in the company's plant at Bawal in Haryana. It presently sells 13 models from its 2013 line up in India.

HARLEY DAVIDSON WANTS TO SPREAD ITS WINGS IN INDIA’S NORTH EAST

American lifestyle motorcycle giant Harley Davidson is said to be mulling a dealership in one of the seven North Eastern states of India. For this to happen though, Harley Davidson is looking for volumes to build from North Eastern states of India.

Currently, Harley Davidson has 9 dealerships across the country and four more will be inaugurated by the end of 2013. Indore, Pune, Goa and Jaipur are the locations for the new Harley Davidson dealerships. The American motorcycle giant is bullish about its plans of setting shop in the smaller cities of India as the demand from these cities is growing steadily. Harley Davidson just reduced the price of its SoftTail range of motorcycles recently by adding these motorcycles to the list of CKD assembly list. Given that Harley Davidson is developing an India-specific motorcycle that’s expected to be priced between INR 3-4 lakhs, the expansion into more Indian cities seems to be the logical move for the American motorcycle maker.

Budget impact: Harley-Davidson India cuts prices, adds Fat Boy to CKD 9-model line-up

In a speedy reaction following the increase in customs duties on imported bikes (from 75 percent to 100 percent), Harley-Davidson India has announced further expansion of its Completely Knocked Down (CKD) operations in India with an addition of three models from its Softail family. The Fat Boy, Heritage Softail Classic and Fat Boy Special, previously offered as Completely Built-Up (CBU) imports, will now be assembled at the Harley-Davidson facility in Bawal, Haryana. As a result of this, the sticker price for these three bikes now stands substantially reduced by Rs 4-5 lakh.

Commenting on the plan, Anoop Prakash, managing director, Harley-Davidson India, said: “We are excited to accelerate our plans to expand our CKD line-up. While the duties appear to have increased on CBU imports, the impact on our pricing will be minimal thanks to our steady focus on developing our completely knocked down (CKD) operations in India since early 2011. Our CKD operation allows us to contribute to local investment while also reducing the tariff burden for customers across India. With this announcement, nine of the 12 models in our India line-up are now being assembled in our India CKD facility.”

While the 1690cc Fat Boy will now cost Rs 14.9 lakh (ex- showroom Delhi) as against the previous CBU price of Rs 19.45 lakh, the Fat Boy Special is priced at Rs 15.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) as against the previous CBU pricing of Rs 19.70 lakh. Meanwhile, the retro-looking Heritage Softail Classic cruiser now bears a sticker price of Rs 16.25 lakh (ex- showroom Delhi) as against the previous CBU pricing of Rs 20.45 lakh.

Along with these three bikes, the other CKD models are from the Sportster model family (SuperLow, Iron 883, Forty-Eight) and Dyna model family (Street Bob, Super Glide Custom, and Fat Bob). Harley-Davidson’s price range in India starts at Rs 5.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the Harley-Davidson SuperLow.

In the 10-month April 2012-January 2013 period, Harley-Davidson India sold 1,057 bikes, a 297 percent increase albeit on a low base of 266 units sold in the year-ago period.
