RIght from day one , overheating is the problem

overheating in sense , the water is not boiling , but the temperature needle is hight.

plus the ac issue. - no time to solve all of them , But plenty of time to worry about these.

alternator also creped up some issues and had to be repaired.

elec advised to go in for a 90 amp alternator instead of repairing the 65 amp stock one.

agreed and spend the money which was kept for power steering and ac.

Voila the ac blower speed has increased.

Gave the old alternator and got this one for 4200/- in chennai

over heating still continues. no i didnt mean that alternator will help , but reminds me of the big problem that continues.

came to POndicherry . opened up my radiator , gave to radiator service people. they blocked some leaking core and welded leaking parts.

radiator serviced for 500/-

Eagerly fixed them all and went for trial. For slow running the thing was good with ac. but for my spirited driving the temp rised hight. almost the max level. less than that by just 2 points.

frustrated , today morning opened up the thermostat flange expecting for no thermostat , but to my surprise it was there . hapily removed them and refixed and again trial.

this time too the temperature went to high point.

Frustrated.

electrician checked and poured a bucket of water on radiator and voila , the temperature went to lowest of lowest value.

so the radiator is not being cooled properly . even though the radiator is serviced it happened.
so i suspect the fan is not efficient .

any suggestion to make the radiator cool , no... no money to replace to aluminium radiator for present.

one idea is to fix a windshield washer near the radiator and spray water when ever they are hot. but not a practical idea.

Sierra are cars that are owned with passion .
its not for people with regular mind! its for irregulars! haha!

Sierra/ jeeps like cj , mm540 , bullet are thing that are different breed . You need a good mechanic to maintain them!

What i have found is , i myself need to search for specialist to perform in my car.
Right now i am performing in car with the help of electrician who is an enthusiast too. And have good contacts in chennai.

The project sierra car is also maintained by a good mechanic.
no not good mech. fantastic mechanic.

member hari said that , the mech is in hosur .

Ok the issues for today!

the temp remains very low after removal of thermostat.
only in ac + running its in high. so the fault is some other thing. yet to find. have some couple of thing in mind. will work on them one by one .

In idle non ac the car is showing low temp. so planning to fix back the thermostat.

Suddenly the gear knob stuck in neutral , refusing to slot any gear.
pushed hard and after that the gears were shifting ok type.

mech check , said there is indeed a problem , but yet to check
i have good , but lazy mech !!

After all the works , when we were about to leave , the electrican checked the gear.
opened up the covers and found the joints there too messy,
cleaned with cloth.
poured with some oil.
now shifts smooth. though the bush kit need replacement.

So again concluded , one need a jeep /bullet to become a full mechanic! hahaha!

Re: Got Tata Sierra - Turbo! , victa steering pump can be put in sierra

Update:

car was idle as was not working upto the mark!
add vit M to the reason!!

was slowly doing some repair thing .

Got the car's power steering unit.
the power steering box was sent to rane for service.
i just gave them and asked to tell the estimate.

When i went after some 5 hours to their service , shocked to hear that they finished servicing , man i was worried of the bill!
another shock of 2600/- for changing all 'O' rings and things that need to be replaced.

gave the pump to them for check up.
Steering pump is 80% efficient.
already previous owner have opened and sealed with aradilite.
also the pump is very old model and spares are not avail as new + no new pump is available.

A point , i got to see the present sumo victa/safari pump. its smaller in size.

All you need is to remove the 4 , 10 size bolt from the old pump and match the manifold with some lathe work for holes.

I didnt buy them as it was 6500 and mine is 80% efficient.
Just a tip for full worn out pump users!

Now the steering is bit lighter , but not as oe sierra , reason fatter tyres!

Ah comming on to ac , the ac guy keep comming to my garage now and then , but do not work in my car! [frustration]

Got him to work in my car,
he did some magic , voila , the car is cold!

point _ the extra blower speed increase switch which the previous owner have kept is the culprit.
his argument , more the blower speed , less the cooling effect. he says to keep the blower in 2 for all the car for max cool effect .
No idea how its true.

He opened up my glove box.
cut the wires
the car was running for some half an hour ,
I was busy with other work ,
just saw the car to check if its still running .
surprised to see fog build up in the window.

Also a thing that even more surprised and hope you are also eager to know.
i had reported the temperature rise to max point only in ac .

Now after the wiring correction , the temperature too is at low point . regeret for removing the thermostat , now searching it.

Don't know the reasoning behind this logic but at least Tata Sumo’s manual suggests keeping the high speed of blower for maximum cooling effect. (Download Tata Sumo Victa Manual).

I love sierra's! Dad used to own one when I was 10 I think. Our sierra turbo went through a lot pf phases, started out as a metallic green and the resprayed to dark metallic maroon because of a crash and then again to two tone silver and grey after another crash. And I should say the car held up extremely well in both those events, later being a truck running into us from the back.

Never drive it though [cry]
