Riding high on the Indian success story of its Chevrolet brand, multi-national auto major General Motors is looking at launching its premium and iconic Cadillac in the country soon, a top company official said.

The Indian arm of the American auto giant General Motors currently sells eight sub-brands under Chevrolet, Spark, Aveo UVA, Aveo, Optra, Tavera, Captiva, Cruze and the latest, the compact car Beat.

"Our Chevrolet brand is doing extremely well as every 8 seconds somebody buys our cars. This is a good indicator and India is a growing market with the demand for luxury cars growing...we are looking at introducing our premium brand, Cadillac over the next couple of years," GM India's President and Managing Director, Karl Slym , told PTI on the sidelines of the launch of the LPG version of Beat here today.

The Detroit-based car-maker, which completes a century in 2011, produces cars and trucks in 31 countries, and sells and services these vehicles through the following division, Buick, GMC, Opel , Vauxhall, and Holden, besides Chevrolet and Cadillac.

"Cadillac is a luxury brand and people in India have a brand recall for the same. We have also done a study and have found that it will not be difficult for us to launch the iconic brand in the country," Slym added. Source: Economic Times

cadillac is great brand but i feel they will need to do some brand building excercise in india. they arent very popular in asia (well only auto freaks know about them) and definitely not as strong as merc/bmw/audi..to whom they are challanging. their fate may also go like volkswagen (phaeton) and volvo.

Re: GM may introduce Cadillac in India soon

This actually Nice to have move.

But GM has to increase their stakes first in India. Still I feel rural India is not aware of Brand GM, they still go with MSIL and just people started moving to Hyundai.

I personally beleive GM is far better in brand building excercise when compared to Volvo.

VW has got an decent share & they are on right track. And launch of Phaeton in India is not to rival against S class or A8 or 7 series. But just to say that we even make luxury cars.

Good luck to GM!

“We have completed a survey on Cadillac and I must say it is having a strong brand recognition. We want to focus on Chevrolet at the moment for which GM India had invested a fortune on building infrastructure like plants,” Karl Slym, president and MD, GM India, said.
