The old model was completely discontinued, but the question is whether they will start manufacturing it again until new one rolls out, or is it just a so-called relaunch in an effort to clear the remaining stock, like cooldhaya pointed.

Maruti launches five CNG models to regain lost market share

Maruti Suzuki India, on Friday launched five of its models in CNG versions, including the best-selling Alto.

The other four models introduced with the alternative fuel option are compact cars Estilo and WagonR, multi-purpose vehicle Eeco and mid-sized sedan SX4.

The CNG variants of these five models are priced between Rs 3.23 lakh and Rs 7.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

The move comes at a time when the company's market share has slipped below 50 per cent this fiscal. It has undertaken many steps, including launching a 1,000-cc version of the Alto and an automatic transmission variant of its A-Star hatchback, to regain the lost market share.

MSI launched the CNG variant of the country's best- selling car, Alto, at Rs 3.23 lakh. The CNG version of the Estilo will come for Rs 4.05 lakh, while the WagonR variant will be offered for Rs 4.11 lakh. The CNG version of the Eeco is priced at Rs 3.64 lakh, while the SX4 variant will cost Rs 7.47 lakh.

Though OT , Porsche allows to put the name of the individual on the tag fitted to the engine who is assembling the engine fully in the manufacturing plant. I saw a show in National Geographic channel explaining the same.
Hey dhaya I also used to watch the same programme on thursdays and wednesdays as a repeat telecaste, it is amazing. Not only Porsche but almost all premium brands do the same, like ferrari, lamborghini, harley davidson, etc
btw as far as lpg/cng is concerned, technically speaking, mileage increases and power decreases. They are totally for diehard mileage loving people.

We can make out from this that car makers are focussing on economy rather than performance. But it is not acceptable everywhere, many people love perfect balance between the both.carmakers might have done hybrids like wagon-r duo with both petrol and lpg/cng option.

Hope for the best for all these new comings[:D]

@Auto Hub India, Affordability and Fuel Efficiency is the only main mantra of Maruti Suzuki, this is what exactly major audience in India demands for. Probably this is also the reason why they are most preferred Indian car manufacturer.

Yesterday when whole country was celebrating Independence day, Maruti Suzuki launched CNG variants of 5 Models, namely Alto, Zen Estilo, Wagon-R, Eeco, SX4. The CNG kit comes pre-fitted from factory and hence, offering customers a comprehensive package which includes full warranty.

The i-GPI or Intelligent Gas Port Injection bi-fuel technology offers an intelligent ride. Intelligent as it ensures more power vis-à-vis retro-fitted CNG vehicles and offers a peppier ride experience at par with that of a petrol-fuelled engine, while achieving high fuel efficiency at the same time. The factory fitted CNG vehicles score very high on safety and reliability vis-à-vis the aftermarket retro-fitted options. Maruti Suzuki CNG vehicles pass through all the quality checks, processes and systems similar to a regular car manufactured at Maruti Suzuki plants.

Price:

  • Alto: Rs.3.23 Lakhs
  • Estilo: Rs.4.05 Lakhs
  • WagonR: Rs.4.11 Lakhs
  • Eeco: Rs.3.64 lakhs
  • SX4: Rs.7.47 Lakhs

This a very good and thoughtful move by MSIL. However, I wonder how many CNG stations are there!

NewKerala reported that it is expected that by 2014-15, the country will have around 1500 CNG gas stations.

INDIA NEWS POST reports that there are only 654 CNG gas stations at present for nearly 9.35 lakh vehicles!

Here is the good news for Kerala:

Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (KSIDC) will sign a bilateral agreement with the Gail India Ltd. for cooperation in developing gas-based infrastructure in the State. The State's premier industrial promotional agency and the Navaratna Central public sector undertaking will enter into a memorandum of understanding for promoting a gas pipeline project and city gas distribution projects in the State. One of the key components of the bilateral agreement would be promoting a gas pipeline project for the supply of regassified liquefied natural gas from the Petronet LNG terminal at Kochi. Another major component would be jointly promoting the city gas distribution project using natural gas. The agreement envisages two gas pipelines in the State in the Kochi-Kanjirakode-Mangalore/Bangalore sector and a sub-sea gas pipeline from Kochi to Kayamkulam. It also proposes the establishment of a city gas distribution project jointly by the GAIL and the KSIDC in the Greater Kochi area for the supply of natural gas for domiciles; automobile compressed natural gas (CNG) stations; and commercial customers as well as for small-scale industrial consumers in the region.

The delivery of 5 CNG Models by Maruti Suzuki has been delayed in Mumbai due to incompatibility of CNG Nozzles. A statement by MSIL’s spokesperson:

Maruti's Spokesperson said:
“There is no delivery delay of Maruti Suzuki CNG vehicles to customers in Delhi and Gujarat. In Mumbai, due to non-compatibility of CNG filling nozzles at dispensing stations, we have put delivery of CNG vehicles on hold. However, the situation will change as we are told the required infrastructure will be put up soon at these dispensing stations. Orders have been placed and nozzles are in transit.”

Am impressed with Maruti's attitude! If it was some other manufacturer( i don want to name) they would have simply sold the car not bothering about these things!

These small things only helps Maruti in retaining the top spot.

Even if it was some other manufacturer, in any case they had to replace nozzles. After all what’s the point of selling a CNG car when CNG can not be even properly filled in it?

Exactly! It is to be noted that handling CNG is tougher than LPG. So, if the govt. is that conscious about these green movements, they have to enforce the expensive CNG to some extend and should make it a must, at least for public and private transportation.
