Great news. Something that is worth looking forward to, and many of us have been waiting for. An automatic transmission will work as an icing on the cake. I can recall, Fiat showcased the same Linea with Dualogic Gearbox on Auto Expo 2010.

This is great move by Fiat which was much needed to combat Vento's domination in this segment. Atleast now hope to see increased sales numbers of this Italian beauty

Good move from Fiat , this Linea will be powerful and will take on the likes of Vento and the to be launched Fiesta and Verna. Just like the hatch segment , this segment is also gearing up for some intense battle!

Wait. Sadly, Fiat's spokesperson has confirmed that there is no truth in rumors about the launch of either Fiat Linea 1.6 Diesel or Automatic.

On 1.6 Diesel:

It (1.6-liter diesel variant) is not in the business plan for this year. There is no truth to it. It is just a person’ or a site’s report.

On Automatic:

We displayed it at the Auto Expo but there are no plans to introduce it in the near future. When we are ready, we will do an announcement.

Well its their loss as well; inspite of having 2 fantastic cars (and boxful of engine options), their cars are just not selling. I mean 700odd units for Linea is not justified.

"Linea, manza aur dzire sab me to same engine hai, phir 2 Lac Rs jyada kyun de?" They should look to change this perception instead of lying back.
P.S. Translation:"When Linea, manza, dzire share the same engine than why spend extra 2Lacs on Linea?"

Hmmm good point mentioned by Safire , all the cars have the same engine but Linea is priced higher! I agree Dzire doesn have all the features in Linea but Manza surely is a tough competitor and i believe is more spacious too compared to Linea.


By launching a more powerful Linea they could have competed against the likes of Vento , New Verna and Fiesta instead.

Linea is a very beautiful car, but its engine and design also needs to be upgraded ..

its 1.3 engine is under powered ...

Sources Confirm That Fiat has started to test 1.6 Linea!

You read it first on MotorBeam. Fiat has already made it official about its plans to launch an updated version of the Linea in 2014. The company will re-position the current Linea as the Linea Classic while the new model will be positioned slightly higher. The facelifted Fiat Linea is already on sale in certain parts of the world and now our sources inform us that the company has started testing the new Linea with the 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine in India. The vehicle will soon be all over Pune streets as road testing operations have commenced.

So what happens to the current Linea. Fiat will continue to sell the current Linea with the same set of engines. The vehicle might be offered in lower trims only. The new Linea will get the much awaited 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine which produces 105 BHP of power and 290 Nm of torque. The 1.6-litre Multijet 2 diesel engine produces the same power output but an additional 30 Nm of torque (320 Nm). We are hoping Fiat gives the Linea the 1.6-litre Multijet 2 diesel engine in India as it is not only faster (0-100 km/hr in less than 11.5 seconds) but is more frugal too.
