Autocar drives the Nissan Micra facelift in India, launch this month!

Nissan Micra is now going to come with facelift.

Flashback a couple of months and exactly on the 15th of April we shared with you the first ever pictures of Nissan Micra facelift, which we, just a couple of days back, came to know will also be the the Euro Spec car.

After Nissan officially unveiled it internationally, Autocar has come up with a pre-launch test drive review of the car in its new clothes. The car looks a lot fresher in its new looks with sharper headlamps, new face, wider stance and that grille! Current Micra is available in 5 trims apart from the 3 trims of the Micra Primo.

According to Autocar, new Micra will be available in three trims – XL, XV and XV Premium which means the base XE and XE Plus will be axed. Now, this brings us to the direct relevance with the price cut Micra that Nissan is testing extensively in India (See Spyshots). This means Nissan will place the lower cost Micra well below this new facelifted version and its pricing will span across to the base XE and XE Plus variants of the current Micra.

There are good chances of Nissan increasing the prices of this Micra facelift a wee bit. There will also be an Automatic CVT variant in petrol which will be available only in the XV trim. Micra facelift will come with the 1.2L petrol engine as well as the 1.5L diesel engine like the current variant.

The most important info shared here is that Nissan will launch the new Micra facelift towards the end of this month (June 2013) in India.

Facelifted Nissan Micra with CVT automatic gearbox all set to make its India debut

To be launched by the end of this month, the facelifted 2014 Nissan Micra is ready to please Indian buyers with a CVT automatic transmission. India will get the Euro spec version of car with addition of CVT variant in the lineup of powertrain options. The Micra will retain the 1.2 liter-3 cylinder petrol engine and 1.5 liter K9k diesel engine, with both these engines mated to 5 speed manual transmission as standard. In addition to these powertrain options, Nissan will add CVT gearbox on 1.2 liter petrol engines for those who consider shifting gears manually a hassle.

This X-tronic CVT automatic transmission is the same unit from Nissan Sunny automatic, with suitable tweaks for Nissan Micra’s low weight configuration. The ECU program that runs the CVT gearbox will decide the most efficient and refined shifting of gears/response, making this variant more fuel efficient than Nissan Sunny. When compared to 5 speed manual transmission, an improvement of 5% in terms of fuel economy is expected to be achieved by the CVT automatic gearbox. This is a much more improved gearbox over conventional torque converters due to X-tronic technology that’s intelligently controlled by the ECU. For manual gearbox, shifting from one gear to other drops the engine rpm and so the power, while CVT offeres constant 76 bhp power without dropping the engine rpm, to deliver better response.

The Nissan Micra will be offered in 3 variants: XL, XV and XV premium. CVT gearbox will be offered with only XV variant. The XV premium version of car will host safety features and will be offered with ABS,EBD and twin airbags. On the styling department front, new Micra gets redesigned bumpers, funky headlamps and few changes in profile of bonnet. On the side profile new Nissan Micra looks same but the rear end of Micra gets all new LED tail lamps. Chrome inserts on front bumper with added chrome on grill enhance the look of the car. The Nissan Micra could come with upgraded ride and handling package.

Nissan India teases the 2013 Micra, says its ‘Coming Soon’

The 2013 Nissan Micra is a comprehensive refresh of the hatchback. Nissan has put in a lot of effort in this facelift and it clearly shows when you take a look at the car.

Nissan has now started teasing us on the new Micra through Facebook and through a dedicated website. You get to see the new Micra in it’s new exterior color ‘Pacific Blue’ which also seems like the communication color. Nissan also says that the ‘All New Micra is Coming Soon’. We had estimated Nissan to launch the car by mid July and that seems to be accurate judging by teasers.

Nissan will launch the new Micra with engine options as before – the 1.2-liter three cylinder petrol and the 1.5-liter four cylinder K9K diesel engine. Both these engines have been retuned a bit for improved fuel economy.

Nissan will also introduce their X-TRONIC CVT technology on the 1.2-liter petrol. Sales of hatchback with automatic transmissions have seen an increase over the years and Nissan predicts this trend will continue.

The new Micra is much more safer than before. Features such as ABS and dual airbags which were earlier unavailable on the diesel Micra, are now offered. On the top-end diesel model, you get an additional 2 airbags taking the count up to 4.

2013 Nissan Micra to be launched in India on July 3

The 2013 Nissan Micra was globally unveiled on June 4th. Since then, we’ve driven the new Micra and also compared the looks and features of the refreshed model with it’s older sibling. OnCars now reports that the 2013 Micra will be launched in India on July 3.

The 2013 Micra is a comprehensive refresh of the old car. Nissan has altered the designs of the bumpers, headlights and taillights from an external standpoint. Even the grill of the car signals Nissan’s corporate look. Additionally, the taillights of the new Micra feature LED lights and the bootlid of the car gets a bootlip which makes it look better.

Inside, the new Micra features an upgraded door trim which looks a lot more premium than the existing all-plastic layout. The central console is now finished in a piano-black color (currently it is ‘greige’) while a new music system adds the feature of Bluetooth. Even the steering wheel has buttons for you to receive and end calls. The seat fabrics are of a different color as well.

Technology wise, the new Micra’s petrol and diesel engines have been tweaked to a minor extent in the interest of fuel economy. The petrol engine can also be specced with Nissan’s X-TRONIC CVT gearbox. The top-end diesel variant gets 4 airbags in addition to ABS, reverse parking sensors, reverse camera and fog lights.

The new Micra will have it’s chief rival in itself a.k.a the Renault Pulse, not to mention the Maruti Swift and the Hyundai i20.

More so, where will they place the new car under Datsun brand?

CHENNAI: Following the successful commercial launch of the premium 'New Micra' compact hatchback range, Nissan on Wednesday announced the launch of the new diesel-powered Micra XE variant priced at Rs 5.57 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.

With this new diesel entry variant, Nissan now broadbases its offering to 12 variants of Micra in India, increasing customer choice.

Sales of the diesel-powered Micra entry level variant will commence from September 4, 2013.

The entry level Micra XE is based on the popular fourth generation city car with redesigned exteriors, refreshed interiors and some user friendly features adding to the new look.

The diesel-powered Micra XE variant comes with fuel economy of 23.08 kmpl (certified by ARAI) and will be available in a range of six colours: olive green (new), turquoise blue (new), blade silver, storm white, onyx black and brick red.

"The launch of new Micra range in July received an overwhelming response from our customers. The new Micra diesel variant is a good value proposition and a desirable option for the Indian customers. We are keen to replicate the success of the existing variants with this diesel-powered XE variant of the new Micra," said Kenichiro Yomura, president, Nissan India operations and MD & CEO, Nissan Motor India.

"Adding the XE variant in diesel (to the new Micra) will further augment the volumes for this model due to its aggressive entry level price point. This is not just another variant but is the right product at the right time. To ensure good sales and after sales service across the nation, we are increasing our dealer networks at a rapid pace. We have also partnered with major banking institutions to provide easy financing and loans disbursement schemes through our dealerships for our retail customers," added Nitish Tipnis, director — sales & marketing, Hover Automotive India (Nissan's national sales company).

The Nissan Micra range comes with a standard manufacturers' warranty of 2 years/50,000km (whichever is earlier).

In order to understand customer needs and resolve their queries, Nissan has established 'Nissan Care' - A Customer Contact Centre.

Nissan already has a host of customer care and service schemes including extended warranty and roadside assistance for its products including the New Micra.
