Hi Friends,

I know professional damping of your car is too costly..
But for people like me who are interested to dampen your car with low cost here is an method..it is totally a DIY ..

I have used Yoga mats to dampen the car..though this not effective as professional damping. But it serves the purpose..

I have presently done it on the hatch door and both rear doors, result is good. No rattling from them..

Materials used..Yoga mats - 2 no's (300rs each) 1 Fevicol SR gum to paste them (50 rs)..

Here are some pic's.. Please share your comments..[;)]

Re: DIY - Cheapest method of damping your car

My front door makes a little rattle thanks to the component speakers but that is down to gaps between the metal of the door & plastic door pad, probably such dampening would do well. I was about to have dynamat installed guess it was 1800 odd for front two doors but i did not have time & had to leave & never had it installed after that.

Varun did you use any double side tape or only fevicol sr gum?

Nice DIY.I dont know wheather this yoga mat is available in kannur.I seriously want to dampen our swift with these yoga mats. The the sound deadning materials normally used is way too expensive. One doubt I have is that effect of the super glue, will it be effective in the long run?

Good one Varun. Thanks for sharing. I will try to do this once my ride goes over 10k on odometer. Did you not try this on the Front doors?

Will add to your reps for this sharing.

Thanks, Yes this glue is a good one.. It will last long. Another advantage of this glue is it won't make stains or marks like fevi quick.
Its cheap too..

Oh, that will be great to know.

May I please request you to take pictures before the damping material is fixed and after as you already did. This shall add value, I guess.

Re: DIY - Cheapest method of damping your car

Thanks again Varun, This will be my weekend project!
What's the thickness of your yoga mats? since there are too many qualities available now a days. The gum you mentioned "Fevicol SR" is this the same light brown coloured gum used by carpenters to stick the laminates on plywood?

Good pictures, gives excellent clarity on what exactly I need to do.

But with moisture and friction with the door lock levers , will it reduce the overall effectiveness with time.
Then this might end up being a quarterly exercise.
Not good for the inner door panels i guess.

What do you suggest to avoid this problem? Is there any other glue which can be recommended to increase the life of this DIY?

Thanks, The same gum which is used to stick plywood..
I don't know much about the thickness of the mat, but its quite heavy.

I am not talking about the glue but the mat.
I have seen those mats getting worn off within months with friction , collecting dust and holes developing in Them in my gym.
Hence the doubt.

+1, the thermocol sheets are lighter by nature so they let in more of sounds and tend to tear up quickly. Whereas The mats used by Varun is better as they help to keep the noise levels as lower as possible.

Amazing DIY, Varun. That’s some creativity. Let me attempt to do this on my car whenever I’m free. To how much extent it has helped?
