Eversince the ANCAP ratings have been out coupled with an accident involving the Scorpio N where the front right wheel coming off,it appears that a lot of unsold stock of the vehicle being lying around,I have received calls from the dealership where I have booked my vehicle regarding availability of the vehicle for immediate delivery.
I replied to them that I have deferred about the same till the contraversy is cleared off.

New Tata Nexon scores 5-star safety rating in GNCAP tests

The new Tata Nexon has kept the safety standards of the Indian automaker in check by securing a full five-star safety rating in the improved GNCAP tests. With this, the Nexon nameplate continues to be one of the safest compact SUVs since the pre-facelift version too achieved a five-star rating.

With the new and strengthened safety norms in place, Tata Nexon has clocked 32.22 points out of 34 and 44.52 points out of 49, for adult and child occupancy protection, respectively. The tests revealed the SUV proved to provide adequate protection for the front, side, and side pole impact tests.

Recently, the GNCAP authority announced the Tata Safari and Harrier to be the safest cars from an Indian manufacturer. And now, the Nexon bags the second place. It meets the UN127 and GTR9 compulsions for pedestrian protection.

Coming to the safety features, the new Tata Nexon comes equipped with six airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, seatbelt reminders, and ISOFIX mounts as standard. Moreover, it also benefits from a blind view monitor, 360-degree surround camera, front and rear parking sensors, hill hold control, auto-dimming IRVM, and fog lamps with cornering function.

Made-in-India Citroen eC3 scores Zero stars in Global NCAP Crash Tests

Citroën eC3 has been crash tested by the Global NCAP and the results are disappointing. The EV managed zero stars for adult safety and one star for child safety. This is one of the last few tests conducted by the Global NCAP under the #safercarsforIndia campaign as Bharat NCAP becomes fully functional from this year. Here’s why it scored so low.

The eC3 was equipped with dual front airbags, seat belt load limiter and seat belt reminder for the front occupants. Getting into specifics, the car received one star 20.86 out of 34 for adult and 10.55 out of 49 points for child safety. It offered good protection for the front occupant’s head and neck while driver’s chest protection was weak and passenger’s chest protection was poor. The driver’s knee had marginal protection due to dangerous structures behind the fascia, while knee protection was good for the passenger. Footwell area was also rated as unstable.

Interestingly, the bodyshell was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loads. The side impact tests showed marginal protection overall and adequate for the chest good for abdomen and pelvis. The difference between front and side impact led to a loss of one star in results. The side pole impact test was given a skip as there are no side airbags. The lack of ESC as standard and the seat belt reminder didn’t meet the GNCAP requirements either.

When asked for a comment, this is what the brand had to say, “Stellantis confirms its vehicles comply with all current local market regulations and its commitment to safety with six airbags and additional safety features as standard across products in India during the second half of the year.”

2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift gets 4 stars in JNCAP crash test

The brand-new Swift from Maruti Suzuki will go on sale in May. The hatchback received a 4-star rating in the Japan New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP) crash test. It is important to remember that the safety specifications of the Swift sold in India will differ slightly. The updated Swift debuted at the Tokyo Mobility Show in Japan last year, and it has recently debuted in the European market.

The video released by NASBA, the Japan Automobile Accident Prevention Organisation, shows the series of crash tests the Swift had to undergo starting from advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), front, side and rear collisions and pedestrian protection. The Swift scored 177.80 points out of 197 and managed 81 per cent in collision safety performance.

The crash tests were done at various speeds from 55 kmph to 64 kmph. The full-wrap frontal collision was done at 55 kmph where the driver’s seat was awarded 4 out of 5 starts while the front passenger side received full marks. The offset frontal collision test took place at 64 kmph where the rear seat scored 3 stars, the lowest in the complete test while the driver’s seat got 4 starts.

The Swift topped the charts at rear collision neck protection for both the driver’s and rear seats. In the case of pedestrian protection, the Swift fared well scoring 4 and 5 stars for head and leg protection respectively.

The video showcased the accuracy and effectiveness of multiple ADAS features. The emergency braking system was tested under various scenarios like vehicle to vehicle, pedestrians for day and night etc. It also received 5 stars for the Lane Departure Prevention System. managed to get 99 per cent in preventive safety performance. The Swift scored 99 per cent in total with ADAS features, but, sadly, it will not be available in India.

Honda Amaze gets 2 stars in latest Global NCAP Crash Test

Honda’s entry-level product, the Amaze sedan, was recently tested by Global NCAP under new protocols. In the crash test, the Honda Amaze scored only 2 stars. The compact sedan competes with the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor in its segment. According to the crash test agency, the Honda Amaze scored 2 stars for adult occupant safety and zero stars for child occupant protection.

The Honda Amaze was previously tested by Global NCAP in 2019, where it received a 4-star rating. The model tested at that time was made in India and sold in the South African market, tested under the old norms. The Honda Amaze is one of the last few cars to be tested by Global NCAP before India completely transitions to the Bharat NCAP safety assessment program.

Honda Cars India, in an official statement, mentioned that according to the new test protocols, “The car is of a 5-star level, and the lower rating is mainly due to the requirement of certain equipment like Electronic Stability Control and Side Curtain Airbags. We are dedicated to continuously working to enhance our vehicles on all safety parameters and improve them further at model change timing.”

According to the Global NCAP report, both child dummies showed head contact in the frontal impact test. The dummy of the three-year-old suffered from high loadings in the chest and neck, while the dummy of the one-and-a-half-year-old was at risk of being ejected. Missing features like lack of three-point seat belts for all seats, lack of a passenger airbag disconnection switch, and only one provision for CRS installation resulted in a zero-star rating for the Honda Amaze in Child Occupant Protection.
