Chevrolet To Bring Camaro in India? But Price?

General Motors is considering introducing Chevrolet Corvette or Camaro in India. These cars certainly need no introduction. GM also highlighted them at recently held Auto Expo and all that I can say is “wow”. These cars will be brought here via CBU route. So the question is how much would they cost? I was surfing through GM USA website and found that Camaro costs $25,000. Therefore converting this amount into INR is no more than Rs.12,50,000. Similarly, Corvette costs $58,000, which roughly translates into Rs.29, 00,000. However thanks to the hefty import duties, these figures are only going to be a dream for us. In my views, we should increase the import duty for CBU. This will force manufactures to start plants in India and thus bringing more jobs directly and indirectly. On the other hand, if these cars are launched with in the 10 Lakh to 15 Lakh range (just dreaming) it will sell like hot cake!

Actually most of the people equally also consider their car to be a fashion statement unlike in many other nations where they are bought for a purpose. This is one of the reasons why station wagons have failed in India.

Point is about how inexpensive these cars are in real. Imagine owning a Camaro for the price of Honda Civic or Cruze.

Camaro has a price tag of 25000$ in USA
25000$=1250000
Add to that 120% tax and you have got a price tag of Rs. 2,750,000.

58000 $
Add 120% tax and you get a price tag of Rs. 6,380,000

Now thats expensive, isnt it?

And Evo is coming for 35 lakh, so RIP Camaro.

Hey AMG all the previous other posts have also suggested the same thing. The car is actually cheap but when we add import taxes it costs a bomb!

Have a look at this (Chevrolet confirms RHD Camaro for UK - debut at Goodwood FOS 2010). Chevrolet has confirmed RHD Camaro for UK. Maybe now this could come to India too sometime in future?
