Harley Davidson is not going to be a threat or competition for Bullets. They are way too costly and add to that the import duties. Harleys are in a different league altogether.

And yes they do need to improve the service network as well as sales network. Most of the dealers in Kerala for instance have a real bad attitude. They treat customers like they have come for a handout. A friend of mine sold his Pulsar 180 and was keen to buy a Bullet. He went to the showroom which is some 70 kilometers from his place three times. They did not even give him a test ride bike after promising him a test ride. He complained to the showroom owner and he said " We dont need anyone to buy a Bullet after taking a test ride, You want to ride? Buy one. We dont have bikes for test rides " My friend felt very offended and he went and bought a Unicorn.

True Test drive/ride is necessary, he should have arranged for the same. Really sad. Yup Harley's are way ahead of the Indian make. But i feel sad for our Great Indian Bullet. If they lose the battle without a fight.
Royal enfield is truly e legend bike maker. :)

Such attitude is really bad! TD'S are are must before we buy any bike or car. We have to see first if we are comfortable in that vehicle. Atleast here in Chennai they are not like that , they are somewhat friendly.

ROYAL ENFIELD PARTS WAYS WITH ITS UK IMPORTER WATSONIAN SQUIRE

Indian retro motorcycle maker Royal Enfield has parted with its UK importer Watsonian Squire. Until recently, Watsonian Squire used to import Royal Enfield motorcycles into the United Kingdom and distribute the Royal Enfield range of motorcycles across the UK. This partnership commenced in 1999 and Watsonian Squire has distributed three platforms of Royal Enfield motorcycles in the UK: the Cast Iron engined versions, the AVL engined versions and the latest Unit Construction Engine(UCE) range. Watsonian Squire also provides spares for Royal Enfield motorcycles sold in the UK.

However, the after sales service for Royal Enfield motorcycles in the United Kingdom is provided through the range of Royal Enfield dealers in that country. So after sales service shouldn’t be a bother until a new importer and distributor moves in to replace Watsonian Squire. For now, Royal Enfield hasn’t announced any new distributor for the United Kingdom although such an announcement is expected to arrive soon given the importance of the UK market for Royal Enfield’s exports. The spiritual headquarters of Royal Enfield(the company was originally founded in Redditch, England), Royal Enfield motorcycles are quite popular in the United Kingdom among retro motorcycle buyers. Royal Enfield motorcycles operate in the retro motorcycle space that give buyers a look and feel of period motorcycles in a fairly reliable modern day package.

So, expect Royal Enfield to announce a new distributor shortly as business continuity in terms of the availability of Royal Enfield motorcycles and parts is paramount. Meanwhile, the reason for Watsonian Squire exiting the distributorship of Royal Enfield motorcycles is said to be motivated by the British firm wanting to concentrate on is other big business, of that of building motorcycle sidecars and trailers. Watsonian Squire, a company that’s over a century old, earned its spurs by building sidecars and trailers for a range of motorcycles. Watsonian Squire also sells a range of body kits for Royal Enfield motorcycles. All said, Watsonian Squire’s decision comes as a surprise considering the fact that the UCE engined Royal Enfield motorcycles have been strong sellers with reliability getting a big boost due to the new engine platform.

Royal Enfield commences production at Oragadam plant

Royal Enfield has started production at its new plant in Oragadam today, marking a new phase of growth.
RE says that the new high tech production facility situated near Chennai incorporates technologies at par with global two wheeler industry. The factory sprawls over 50 acres and has an initial production capacity of 1,50,000 units per annum.

The facility is equipped with CED paint shop with robotic painting and power coating systems, which has a painting capacity of 600 motorcycles per day. In addition, ergonomic assembly work stations and torque controlled tools with feedback gives the plant an ability to produce a motorcycle every minute. About 800 units can be produced on a single day across two shifts.

The plant also has chassis dynamometers and a 1.4 km long test track to ensure that the vehicles leaving the premises are defect free. The legendary hand painted pin stripes will continue to feature on the Bullets.
Rolling out the first motorcycle from the assembly lines, Mr. Siddhartha Lal, MD & CEO of Eicher Motors stated that, “This new plant has been benchmarked to achieve the highest level of quality and productivity. We have re-tooled many of the parts that make up our motorcycles – so that they are of exacting accuracy and finish.”
With the new plant, RE is aiming to increase its international presence and attain global leadership in mid-size motorcycle category.

The demand for Royal Enfield bikes have increased exponentially in the recent years, resulting in waiting periods as long as 6-8 months! The new Oragadam plant is expected to reduce the waiting period and improve the overall quality of the bikes.
