Dear Team,

Thought of sharing a mod I'd done on my BS6 Alto. Reason for this mod is that a day ago while shopping late at night we had a hard time loading groceries into the boot of our Alto.

Requirements:

1. Boot Lamp:

Part Number: 36210M75JA0
Boodmo Link: LAMP ASSY,LUGGAGE ROOM

2. Boot Lamp Harness:

Part Number: 36826M68P00
Boodmo Link: WIRE, DOOR LAMP

If you're good at Soldering then you can skip getting the wire which is quite over priced IMHO.

Once you have the parts with you bring one of the side panels indoors;

Then you have to create a template on cardboard;

Once you have the template ready just put it against the panel where you want to install the lamp and start cutting, rough edges are fine, you can level it out with a dremel. End result would look like this;

Now comes the dilemma, the wiring! The professional way to do it is by tapping power source from the cabin lamp as advised by our very own DIY Devil who was also kind enough to give me instructions to remove the headliner, however me being not so patient decided to go with tapping the park light supply from the respective tail light cluster, the wiring is as below;

Lamp Wiring:
Grey Wire > Positive
Yellow Wire > Ground

Tail Cluster Wiring:
Red Wire> 12V Positive Controlled by Light Stalk.

Black Wire > Ground

You could power the lamp from a 12V Supply that is always ON as the Lamp has an inbuilt switch, but I'm too old to live that dangerously hence mine is hooked up to the Parking Light supply, which in a way adds to safety not only from battery drain but also forces the driver to turn on the Park Lights before accessing the boot, or at least thats what I tell myself.

Anyways here are the end results;

Boot Light ON:

All parts being MGP the fit and finish is also factoryl

So that's about it folks. Special thanks goes out to my friend Shashi who had shared part numbers which enabled me to save over 300 bucks by sourcing the above from Boodmo instead of MGP who sells the same as a kit;

That is a very nice DIY you did, and demonstrated, mate. And neatly done too.
Thanks for sharing with us. Will be helpful for all cars, I hope.
