KOLKATA: In tune with growing sales in the eastern region, including Orissa, BMW India on Thursday announced the opening of a facility in Bhubaneswar which would include a ‘car-display' facility with service. This marks the second wave of the India strategy, the company said.

“OSL Prestige brings to Bhubaneswar, the BMW standards of sales and service and the same international experience as any BMW dealership worldwide,” the company said.

Andreas Schaaf, President, BMW India, said, “Having taken the lead in the premium segment for the first time last year, we aim to maintain our leading position in the Indian market by now embarking on the second wave of our India strategy. We are proud to announce the opening of OSL Prestige in Bhubaneswar.

“OSL Prestige is also our dealer partner for West Bengal and this new facility strengthens Phase-II of our expansion in India.”

The new showroom is located at “The Empire” hotel at Shahid Nagar and the new service facility is located at Bhanpur in Cuttack. The fully equipped workshop comprises three service bays that can service up to 10 cars daily.

Till September 2010, BMW Group has invested Rs.110 crore and its investment in India will be increased to Rs.180 crore by end -2012.

The range of BMW activities in India include the establishment of a production plant in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and development of a dealer organisation across major metropolitan centres.

BMW India will expand its dealer network by increasing the number of outlets to 22 across major metropolitan centres from the present 18.

BMW owners down south must be a happy lot. Just checked the BMW website and it lists 15 Dealers (BMW India : Locate a dealer). This latest addition should take it to 16. I wonder how the guys at the Hindu said 18. Audi currently stands at 13 dealers (Audi India > Dealerships > India Network).

Though, BMW and Audi both would need a considerable amount of time to match up to Mercedes-Benz who is the unmatched Luxury king with 23 dealers currently and 31 Service stations spread across the country.
