Small car from Bajaj to be smaller than Maruti's Alto: Renault

Economictimes
The small car being developed by Bajaj Auto that will be marketed by Renault-Nissan alliance in India will be smaller than Maruti Suzuki's Alto, according to the French car maker.

"The car that we are discussing with Bajaj is smaller than the small car. A small car like Maruti Suzuki's Alto or a 1.2 litre car is not on the table for discussion of Renault Bajaj. We are discussing a smaller car than the small car," Renault Asia Africa Management Committee Executive Vice- President Katsumi Nakamura told reporters.

"Smaller" than the "Small" car? Are they planning to develop a micro car?
Bajaj’s small car which was showcased on 9th Auto Expo is better in terms of looks, I wish they don’t try to mess with it much in production version.

Bajaj to launch cars on Renault platform

Economictimes -
Bajaj Auto, which is planning launch four-wheelers in both passenger and commercial vehicle segment in 2012, will use the Renault platform for
their production. The platform is under development, and it will share common aggregates, catering to requirements of passenger vehicles as well as goods carriers, said Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj.

“Our four-wheelers are due in 2012. It will be a new platform. But the project is a common one with Renault, and on a common platform. The basic structure of the vehicle — the engine, transmission, chassis — will be common,” Mr Bajaj told reporters at the launch of two new three-wheeler products.

aha means bajaj will make its 4 wheeler entry by 2012, so many things would have been changed by then and many auto makers would have launched low cost cars like hyundai and more. Bajaj should have considered releasing it sooner otherwise they should get ready for ultra tough competition.

French auto major Renault and Bajaj Auto have agreed to price the ultra low cost (ULC) car that they are jointly developing with Nissan at $2,500, (around Rs 1.10 lakh) to take on Tata Nano.

"In India, Renault and Nissan are developing an ultra low cost vehicle with the Bajaj group, benefiting from its expertise in the light vehicles and the knowledge of the Indian market. We are aiming for a price of $2,500," Renault President and CEO Carlos Ghosn said at the Annual General Meeting of the company on Friday.

Originally, the car was scheduled to hit the market this year, but that has been postponed to 2012. It will take on Tata Nano, which is currently available in a price range of Rs 1.23 lakh-1.72 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for three variants.
