Bajaj Auto Working On A More Powerful Chetak Electric Scooter

Bajaj Auto had taken the wraps off the Chetak electric scooter about a month ago and recently, at a press conference, marking the end of the Chetak Yatra, Rajiv Bajaj said that the company is already working on a more powerful version of the Chetak electric scooter, which could be sold under KTM or Husqvarna brand. Details are very sketchy as of now but we believe the platform for Chetak will be used to make a performance oriented version which will have more power, better performance and better range as well.

Bajaj Chetak electric scooter LIVE tracking feature – Video

bajaj-chetak-electric-scooter-launch-1-1920x1149.jpg

In a build up to its launch of Bajaj Chetak electric scooter in the coming weeks, the Pune-based two wheeler giant has released a video detailing the vehicle’s live tracking feature.

A premium e-scooter is incomplete without a Smartphone app for remote access and analytics. The live tracking feature which is one of the many features of e-Chetak’s Smartphone app helps the rider find the scooter in a crowded parking area like massive shopping malls, city center, etc.

The feature is relatively simple and a similar functionality is available on Google maps as well. However, the Bajaj app seems to be more convenient. In addition to live tracking, the app will also be able to generate trip statistics, user authentication and several other security and convenience features.

Bajaj Chetak EV Expected Price Around Rs. 1.25 Lakh

2020-bajaj-chetak-electric-scooter-14-1021x610.jpg

The Chetak Electric retains the iconic retro styling of the older scooter and it does evoke emotions. It will be priced around Rs. 1.25 lakh as the pricing had already been confirmed to be attractive and not aggressive. It comes equipped with a Li-ion battery pack and NCA cells certified to have met IP67 dust and waterproof regulations.

It will be offered in Eco and Sport modes as the former is tuned for better riding range and the latter can squeeze out more performance at the expense of crunching lesser miles. The Eco model is claimed to do 95 km while the Sport is capable of 85 km on a single charge in the real world conditions and thus ARAI-certified figures will be much higher.

The Bajaj Chetak nameplate was revived last year for the new electric scooter from the manufacturer and we finally have a launch date for the highly anticipated model. The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will be launched on January 14, 2020, keeping up with the manufacturer's promise. The bike maker has promised aggressive pricing on the new Chetak and we expect the model to be priced around ₹ 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom). Bajaj will commence sales of the Chetak in Pune first, followed by Bengaluru and other metro cities in a phased manner. The company's ProBiking showrooms that currently retail KTM bikes will also house the Chetak scooter and the Husqvarna motorcycles going forward.

Bajaj Chetak Bookings Temporarily Stopped; Scooter Deliveries Delayed

Bajaj Auto has stopped taking bookings for the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter. Thanks to the pandemic slowdown, the company's production for Chetak, hit a snag and has slowed down. This is of course a temporary course of events and Bajaj will pick up bookings soon. The deliveries for the scooters have been delayed as well and the current waiting time for the scooters is around three to five months. Bajaj will deliver the scooters to customers who booked it before February 29, sometime between August and September 2020. The customers, who booked it after February, will get the deliveries only after September, so, that will be a long wait.

More powerful, localised Bajaj Chetak EV coming soon

20220104105951_20210315042728_Bajaj_Chetak.jpg
Bajaj has been working on updating its Chetak electric scooter, primarily focusing on increasing the level of indigenisation and localisation. Recent type approval documents show an updated version of the Chetak, complete with a slightly more powerful motor.

The current Chetak uses a Bosch-sourced motor with a peak power output of 4.08kW and a continuous output of 3.8kW, whereas the documents for the new Chetak show a peak output of 4.2kW and a continuous output of 4.0kW. This difference is likely down to the fact that the updated Chetak will use a new, indigineous motor instead.

Various other components on the scooter, including perhaps the battery pack, could see a higher level of localisation on the upcoming Chetak. With the new version already having been type approved for road-use, an official launch should be just around the corner.
