With its latest 308 hatchback, Peugeot marked the start of a new design theme that is trickling down to the rest of the range, and now it's the turn of the 3008 crossover to follow suit. Next year, an all-new version of the Nissan Qashqai rival will break cover, and these spy shots give us our first look at the car’s exterior, albeit partly obscured by camouflage.

Despite the heavy disguise, it’s clear that the new 3008 will be a more angular, imposing machine than before, with chamfered edges in the bodywork, beady-eyed headlights and a clamshell bonnet. The firm’s new crest logo will feature throughout, too, along with fang-like LED running lights at the front. Body-coloured grille elements, as seen on the new 408, could also make an appearance.

Interestingly, this prototype wears a large box section over the rear end to disguise the SUV’s profile, hinting that it could adopt a fastback-style roofline. Peugeot’s latest LED tail light signature can be seen peering through the camouflage, and a selection of new alloy wheels will be available with the next-gen model.

Inside, the crossover will employ the brand’s i-Cockpit layout, consisting of a small-diameter steering wheel mounted below a high-set digital instrument panel. The 3008 will borrow its infotainment tech from elsewhere in the range, which is likely to consist of a 10-inch touchscreen running Peugeot’s latest i-Connect Advanced software.

This will offer voice recognition tech and over-the-air update capability, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Beneath the main display, expect to find a selection of touchscreen shortcuts and a row of toggle switches for main vehicle functions, as found in the 408.

The 3008 will ride on the latest version of the brand’s EMP2 platform, so is likely to share its powertrain tech with the similarly built 408. To kick off the range, Peugeot could offer a mild-hybrid 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, along with a selection of plug-in hybrid petrol versions based around a 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit.

In the 408, a similar setup provides up to 40 miles of EV running, but a pure-electric option may also arrive to top the range. This could borrow the 54kWh battery pack found in the forthcoming e-408, which can be charged at speeds of up to 100kW. The e-3008 should offer well over 200 miles of range if it does materialise.

2023 Peugeot 3008 i-Cockpit interior revealed

Peugeot 3008 interior.jpg

The next generation i-Cockpit layout has been teased ahead of the all-new Peugeot 3008’s official unveiling. The new interior architecture is set to make its debut on the forthcoming SUV, which will go all-electric when it’s revealed in the second half of this year. Brand boss Linda Jackson confirmed recently that the 3008 will be the first Peugeot to sit on parent firm Stellantis’s new platforms for pure-electric vehicles, with the STLA Medium underpinnings chosen for the new e-3008.

The new generation interior architecture has a similar design concept to the one Peugeot pioneered over a decade ago, but comes with a new design for the low-set steering wheel and a screen panel positioned above it. This new panoramic i-Cockpit layout combines the two screens, with a digital dash and the main touchscreen, linked into one housing. Peugeot says this configuration is a 21-inch high-definition panel that combines the instrument cluster and secondary functions.

Then there’s a touch-sensitive panel below this, which replaces the piano key-style shortcut buttons on current Peugeot models; this will allow users to jump between the most frequently used areas of the system as well as being customisable to the driver’s preferences. It does, however, look like the car’s climate controls will be incorporated into the touchscreen set-up, because no physical controls are visible. Expect a good degree of customisation on offer when it comes to the look and layout of the widescreen display, too.

The teaser also reveals the e-3008’s new generation interior design, which is clearly an evolution of the current 3008’s interior when it comes to the layout and materials. Peugeot will once again make extensive use of fabrics and textured metallic materials, while a large centre console featuring cup-holders and storage cubbies is also present. This is possible thanks to a minimised gear selector that now sits on the dash.

Expect the new e-3008 to still offer a raised driving position and ride height when it breaks cover later this year, but we also anticipate a sleeker roofline towards the rear end, reducing the car’s drag to improve the all-electric machine’s range. A new grille treatment inspired by Peugeot’s Inception concept revealed earlier this year at CES will likely feature, given that the brand previously outlined that Inception “will inspire Peugeot’s future products from 2025”, when deliveries of the new e-3008 are likely to start. This new, faired-in face will boost efficiency.

Even if you take a 408, which is neither an SUV nor a sedan [saloon], it’s a crossover”, added Jackson. “It’s a cross between the two, a dynamic fastback, whatever you want to call it. For me, that’s where it will change. There’s no doubt, when we used to have these very high SUVs, they’re not aerodynamically suited to efficiency, so inevitably they will change.
